Indigenous Peoples Day is sadly US centric, and coincides with Native American(s) Day somewhat. If you poke around, you will find both names assigned to various days from late September through mid-October. In 1989, South Dakota decided to honor Native Americans on the date already officially assigned to celebrating the life of Christopher Columbus. They named this celebration Native Americans Day .Various jurisdictions across the US celebrate Native American day on various dates.
In 1992, the city of Berkeley, California, declared the date hitherto assigned to Columbus Day to be "Indigenous Peoples Day", and, in time various other jurisdictions followed suit.

Good morning Voice. For what it is worth, Columbus was NOT
ITALIAN, but Genoese. There was no Italy when he was born and lived. He was born in 1451 or so and Italy was born in 1860, if memory serves me well. Beyond that, he also never sailed for Genoa. He did land a job as a CREWMAN on a merchant ship of some sort (not sure if it was Genoese or not), but it was attacked and sunk by pirates off of Portugal. He managed to float to shore on some floatsam, began to go to school, and, as far as I know, never saw Genoa again.
PS: I am not an Anglo Bastid, I am a Celt, Irish to be specific, and hence no great fan of Merrie Engelonde.

and call it "Discovery Day". That covers everyone from the first Northeast Asian wanderers through Leif Ericsson to John Cabot to Samuel de Champlain, to whomever and whenever (possibly including Saint Brendan, Prince Madoc and Henry de Sinclair, if you like a side of myth).

Indigenous Peoples' Day, but prefer it to be global, including the Maori, Bantu, etc. Beyond that Indigenous Peoples Day (western hemisphere) is still good, we celebrate a great number of colonists and others of that ilk, so it is good to give those who were here when they arrived a few nods as well.
