A laudatio for JtC and Joe Shikspak
It is was with great sadness that I read about JtC's upcoming hiatus.
This site has helped me and I believe a lot of C99ers to understand the world around us. For that I wanted to express my sincerest gratitude.
I feel lost without both of you. May you both survive and recover and keep up your hope that one day we can live in a better world, with more justice and peace.
As I do not expect to hear back from you both, let me say that I will miss this site endlessly.
Your own health and spiritual life has to come first. I consider you my friends and I will never forget what you and Joe have done to help me understand the awful times we live in.
Survive, heal and recover your spririts. Get rest.
Good Bye, dear American friends. We need justice, truth, peace. You and many others here have tried to offer it to your readers.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones. My heart is crying.

I think the site continues
just without JtC's guidance. Perhaps the community can be mature and respectful of one another during his absence. It is up to all of us to make sure.
I hope he enjoys his well deserved break! I sure enjoyed my week off line and screenless time while at the beach.
So hang around. Joe will post the EB this evening, and EL has the OT up right now.

hi mimi...
rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated.
i haven't had a chance to communicate with jtc yet, but i presume that folks here can keep it together long enough for him to have a respite and perhaps return refreshed. cripes, we all need a vacation sometimes.
I hope for all who need a vacation to get one
sorry that I didn't quite understand what JiC's hiatus announcement meant. I am just too melodramatish I guess and - to be honest - too dumb as well.
I take a vacation too, heh, I need it.
Have a good day.

Don't know how he's done it this long.
Back in the day, I was a moderator at a high traffic message board. We had a team of 7 or 8 mods (IIRC) and I didn't last but 3 or 4 years. This wasn't even a really contentious site either but there was so much unpaid work constantly. And this was like in the 2000s when the online landscape was much much different. I always have respect for those who run a place because it really is a thankless, full-time job.
Enjoy the break JtC, be it temporary or permanent.
Idolizing a politician is like believing the stripper really likes you.
