Nations, like stars, are entitled to eclipse. All is well, provided the light returns and the eclipse does not become endless night. Dawn and resurrection are synonymous. The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul. -- Victor Hugo

Welcome to your Wednesday Open Thread. Can you feel the energy brought about by the lunar fulfilling? I sure can. Not sure if the new or full episodes are more striking. No matter. Here we are.

This has to be truncated, as I am flat out doing whatever is needed to fulfill obligations.
Please pick up the ball and run with it.

Looked at the moon this AM, just before setting. Looked mushy. Clouds and fog erased most definition. Numb penumbra.

@QMS and the eclipse was possible on the west coast. But I did not get up early enough to see it.

After many cool, gray days, there is sunshine and blue skies today. I will enjoy some of it sitting on a deck in the country admiring the view of a Pacific Northwest rainforest.

Our local strawberries have begun ripening. Compared to the strawberries in the grocery store, they are a different food. They are full of flavor and natural sweetness, but available for only a few weeks each year. I will eat a pint of them a day while I can get them.

Are there other places where a local produce of some sort make a mockery of usual supermarket fare? I know onions grown in some places are sort of famous. What about berries or other things that grow where you live?

@Granma

maybe 1 or 2 a day during season, but they are superb. There is a guy who regularly attends our farmers' market whose are much better than the grocery stores, so we sometimes get those. There are periods when our oranges are wonderfully delicious, also our pears and apricots if we beat the birds and squirrels to them.

@Granma when I started the 'farm', growing vegetables, herbs and fruits for a CSA we ran for years, I planted potatoes. Now, I thought a potato is a potato. Home grown, organic potatoes are not going to be much different... ohh, I took a bite.
OHH...

OHHHHHHHHHH.

I can't hardly eat store bought potatoes anymore. The taste is so much better when home grown, so MUCH better. I've found the same for all the vegetables and fruit we grow. Even if they are slightly buggy, or eaten by cabbage moths or whatever, still, much better tasting (and the moth eggs add some protein! Smile Smile ).

I live in the Pac NW too, west of Seattle. Yesterday I harvested a lettuce that was 18 inches across. Not one leaf was bad. And so, so tasty. Yes, even lettuce is better. It must be the compost heap and all the goat poo we use as fertilizer!

Eclipse, a so called crossover which is, iirc, a mini-suv or station wagon of some sort.

For every penumbra, there should be an umbra, n'est ce pas? So, the epitome of darkness and shadow is ....

Umbra: Modern Home Decor & Original Design for Every Room
Umbra offers original, modern, casual & functional home decor products with 5 year warranty, best price guarantee, no-hassle returns & free shipping!

Brings on dark thoughts, that does, can't help but wonder if they knew what it mean't, or maybe it is all black on black, I'm afraid to look.

Though it is a different eclipse, the idea of Umbra home furnishings conjures up a book title, Arthur Koestler's Darkness at Noon, which I recall as being a very very good read.

AND - speaking of Dark Literature, Bram Stoker's Dracula was first published on May 26 1897.

BUT - as you note, light follows darkness, or, we at least expect it to, so for something light and airy you should grab a few sheets of paper and celebrate the fact that this is Paper Airplane Day
If you do a search on Paper airplanes, you are sure to find plenty of instructional videos in case you either forgot how or never learned.

Here's an old standard that requires either a very large sheet of paper or very small hands

And here's another, much longer one, with 5 different designs

@enhydra lutris must be an error in the tape.

Andrew Yang came to my neighborhood this morning for a press event. The tape I annot seem to upload shows me standing with Andrew and my NYC Council Member, Margaret Chin.

Raggedy Ann and Price Rip had a conversation here about who is real because we have no photos.

This is my attempt to show you what this elderly grandmother political activist looks like doing her thing.

If I can't get this tape to appear photos were taken of Andrew Yang and I having a brief chat .Hopefully I can get something on this blog.

Now, If only I could believe that Andrew will defeat the NYC Machine...............

@NYCVG facial recognition software and picture scanning.

This facial recognition website can turn anyone into a cop - or a stalker

Drew Harwell
May 14, 2021·14 min read

The facial recognition site PimEyes is one of the most capable face-searching tools on the planet. In less than a second, it can scan through more than 900 million images from across the Internet and find matches with startling accuracy.

But its most distinguishing trait is who can use it: Anyone. While most facial recognition tools are reserved for police or government use, PimEyes is open to the masses, whether they're hunting down U.S. Capitol riot suspects or stalking women around the Web.

Become curious when it becomes a demand by a self-declared hacker.

I only quit running interactive server functions when the black hat hackers began to out number the white hat hackers and they hijacked my mail server. After that I was okay with running a web server.

I trust your are real and your writings are your own. Have been enjoying the birdseye view of a political race across the country.

Also write using compound words just to annoy text scanning. Surveillance happens I don't have to make it easy. Also do not give free treats to my animals - use them for training.

then load the link/url. Stuff like that it's generally best to ask JtC 1) if it is possible, and 2) how to do it.

@enhydra lutris Usually I can show the Tweets directly but for some reason way beyond me, today I had to just do the Tweet's URL and then you all had to do is click if the twee interests you. click.

Ok. That's me, big sunglasses, chatting, Target shopping bag and all which I clearly should have ditched before the tape started rolling. First seconds before the official start of the tape.
