Need to send the Hypocrisy Meter in for overhaul - just wasn't designed for stories like these...
For anyone wondering if hypocrisy can actually be breathtaking, I give you...
Kiss My Grifts
I posted a comment in the last day or two about BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors recently revealed purchase of a quarter-acre "mini-compound" in Topanga Canyon, LA - a deal to good to pass up, apparently, at only $1.4 million. Because nothing says revolutionary zeal and concern for the downtrodden like chilling out in an 88% white elite Left Coast enclave, presumably.
Well, while those who pared their food budget to contribute to BLM, or those whose livelihoods were devastated by having their businesses or places of work destroyed in last summer's riots, arson and pillaging mostly peaceful protests might find that interesting enough, it seems that, like a shopping channel commercial, There's More!
Apparently, this is not the first, and maybe not the most expensive acquisition she has made.
2016 - house in Inglewood (LA) $510,000 (now worth near $800,000+
2018 - house in South LA $590,000 (now worth $720,000)
2020 - "custom ranch" house and hangar for private plane on 3.2 acres in Conyers, GA (includes access to community runway) beating those SoCal prices at a mere $415,000
2021 - Topanga Canyon property $1.4 million
She and her wife were also observed last year shopping for a unit at "The Albany" on New Providence Is., Bahamas, (units are said to go for from $5-20 million) but it is not confirmed that they purchased anything.

But, as a self-described "trained Marxist", I'm sure that there is nothing about this to lessen her determination to see the abolition of private property...
“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

and then we have:
Lockdowns for Thee, But not for Me
Trish Foster. Chief operations officer (whatever that is) in the administration of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
It seems that just days after Whitmer's warning against travel to Florida and reiterating about mask use, social distancing, etc., Foster - who had a family member, apparently her son - down with Covid, took off for an (apparently) mask and social distancing-free holiday in sunny Key West.
And, of course, posted pics of the whole thing on Faceplantbook. Which were subsequently taken down, but thoughtfully saved by Breitbart.
Probably doesn't bother Whitmer all that much - doubt if she has any re-election prospects and can likely cash in elsewhere, anyway - but it didn't stop her from blaming White Nationalists for exposing it.

Here I am being contrary again.
I'm sorry but the evidence does not necessarily lead to the conclusion in either case. Are there justified reasons to be suspicious? Damn straight!
Your conclusion of hypocrisy seems stronger for Trish Foster but even she may have a reasonable explanation. My first thought in her case was, "What lockdown?" Is MI locked down? I know damn well FL is not. I think it's grossly poor judgement to make that trip and expose yourself to that environment. It takes a real idiot to post evidence of an apparent failure to take appropriate precautions on Facebook. If that is what it shows. I'm not sure. Yet, those are the times we live in and the ethics we've come to expect from our public servants. In my mind it is that we accept that level of behavior which partially puts it on those of us who have lived the past 50 years. Still, while I can't imagine how she might adequately explain herself, I can see it may be somehow possible. Were she to resign in short order in the absence of a believable explanation, I'd have no problem finding some respect for her. I'm not holding my breath for obvious reasons.
If in the case of Patrisse Khan-Cullors your suggestion is that a wealthy person is hypocritical by supporting or participating in founding and/or leading BLM, then I strongly disagree. I shouldn't have to explain why. Again, like Foster, suspicion is appropriate but evidence of her profiting from her position in founding BLM or some impropriety is needed. The times we live in suggest something improper (they all do it, right?) but we need more than someone's joint real estate acquisitions and holdings with a spouse to justify the claim of hypocrisy.

I am going to the Keys in a couple of weeks.
Before you think I am a hypocrite, nut, or a person with suicidal tendencies, it is a drive through visit. I doubt we go inside a restaurant or bar.
While this woman does appear to say one thing, do the opposite, it doesn't touch Ted Cruz for hypocrisy. Remember him going to S. America with his family while his Texas constituency froze in the week-long ice storm?
I do agree rich people are not precluded from trying to help the less fortunate.
edit: Cruz went to Mexico. My bad. No...HIS BAD.
"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981
I have absolutely zero problems
My position is as it has always been: appearance, "I heard...", suggestion, belief, it seems, charge/counter charge, or any of the other things except hard verifiable evidence means squat. We have the likes Rush Limbaugh to thank for unleashing his weaponized methods of smearing those he doesn't like on the US. These stories are nothing but data until more is known.
It looks like RR has some to add below.
"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."
I honestly believed
"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981
I knew there were claims
The environment we find ourselves makes sorting reality from belief or a plan to delegitimize with lies and innuendo almost impossible. In some cases it really doesn't matter if BLM was an astroturf operation. The movement brought about a lot of awareness of the problem regardless of whether it was put together by some opportunists looking to make a buck or name for themselves. The organization has to solve that problem if it can and doesn't make on bit of difference to solving the problem of police violence against black people or those who haven't the power to protect themselves. I guess it's my thinking may be the difference. Doing the right thing doesn't require a right reason nor is the act diminished by some asshats' intentions of using the movement for personal gain. I lost the allure of self righteous indignation a long time ago.
"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."
I know what you mean, and agree.
Since I will never be privy to the info on the organization, I will accept that the grassroots who are in disagreement have legitimate grievances.
The goal of ending police discrimination against blacks, workplace discrimination, and bringing a reckoning that white supremacy is a fiction, are as great as goals get.
I think those great goals are hurt by individuals who use the difficult process of social change to profit by their work. Especially when they thumb their nose at the rules the little people of all races are mandated to follow.
As an aside, off topic, how are you viewing Ecuador's elections?
Hope you and yours are well.

I'd be happy to learn more
But actions, as they say, speak louder than words. In Khan-Cullors' case, she has publicly self-identified as "Marxist" yet her actions do not *appear* to be very consistent with abolishing class structures and the abolition of private property. You are correct that what is known so far is not proof of grifting and she has had one best-selling book, so has some resources independent of her BLM positions.
Still, although I would usually prefer Jimmy Dore or the Hodge Twins for comic relief, I'd love to see some transparency on C-K's financial dealings and an explanation from her about how this is somehow *not* grossly hypocritical...

Requirements in Florida
Compliance with safety standards for COVID varies from area to area. There is a high rate of compliance in my home county outside the college students, but we have two universities and one college in Tallahassee and a lot of the students go mask free when out and about in town. If you are going to Key West, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor dining which helps mitigate the risk. Key Westers are very independent and rebellious thinkers so I would expect to see a lot of unmasked people there.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
I read some advisories that said different counties
If we do go to a restaurant, we will sit outside, or get take out, and go to the beach to picnic. We would like to say we had a Key West experience, but sometimes, you just get as close as possible to the goal.
Hope you are doing well, my friend.

Well to me, it sure
Looks like unbridled hypocrisy.
From the Black Agenda Report from December of last year:

This is part of the statement from the 10 BLM chapters that are in open revolt against the "Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation".
(If I've clipped too much from BAR, they can sue me.)
Taking in millions in donations and no transparency for a "social justice" organization, is not a good thing to me and SCREAMS Hypocrisy. Like one of those tele-evangilists who ask poor people to donate money to the church and they fly around in multi-million dollar jets and live in multi-million dollar mansions, create their own broadcasting networks to raise even more donations.
And speaking of the "church", that is one area that has cashed in on keeping Black people "believing" they should accept their slavery and do as the master says.

Thanks for another piece of the puzzle RR.
The problem is twofold as I see it. There's power, money, and fame to be had and we are a nation of people who will find ways to justify doing anything to grab any of those things for themselves. I'm sure most of the little people are dedicated to the movement, dying to pursue their cause so to speak, but the leaders seldom seem to have the level of character needed to do the good work selflessly. There is only opportunity that many see. Which brings up a good question. Is it the movement leaders or the chapter leaders who are corrupt? Both? I'm not sure it matters. The movement and those who are most involved and have the most to lose will continue to suffer while the corrupt profit. And the wheel keeps on spinning. Welcome to the US.

lol
BLM was co-opted almost from the git go and made into another way to fleece the sheep and let them pretend that an organization was helping them. The sheep is not the people who were desperate to see change in the way they are being treated by most white cops they meet and many times those of their own skin color. Rather it is the upper elite class that treats everyone as sheep and whenever a socialist group rises up against all odds it is co-opted by the PTB. And the reason why people took that chance to get some changes made is stories like this latest one where 2 cops, one white, one possibly Hispanic pulled over a black man because they said he had no license plates. His temporary tag was plain to see no matter how dark it was. Read the heinous story of another black person being persecuted by cops under color of law and making him very afraid that he would die any minute.
This is beyond hypocrisy. It is taking people's hopes and dreams and using them for nefarious means. But maybe her wife is rich. Maybe she was rich before she got her job. I don't know. But stories like this with no context don't serve anyone.. but when I 1st read this I just lol. What else? This is just another view of Nancy eating ice cream in front of starving people during a pandemic after refusing to bailout the masses. They can't help themselves because they cannot connect to our lives and our levels of pain any longer. People also gave Jimmy Dore crap for buying a $2 million home in LA. So what on either?
Some background:
As for the aid that went to Florida. Well of course. There have always been two sets of COVID rules for the elite and the rest of us. Do as we say, not as we do which has been photo'd over and over and will be again and again till this is done. Look at how many members of congress flew without masks after they got on the plane. Look at how they criss crossed the country while we were locked down. The reason that got any play is because she defied the guv's orders.
However did she really?
We can't have it both ways. Either it is safe to travel or the VAX don't work. Time will tell. A large number of people in Michigan have gotten COVID after their 1st VAX and 3 have died. I think more info will be coming soon if it ain't censored which a lot of news good and bad has been. That doesn't give me confidence. If it's bad someone can show why. If not let me decide.
Speaking of Michigan still:
That's my soapbox.

After the initial BLM interactions with Bernie and Hillary ...
$2 million home in LA
Last time I looked, about fifteen years ago, that was a cheap house.
Half a million was a shack. more like an out house.

Makes absolutely perfect sense once you accept that they don't
believe their own fear-mongering. All of the most staunch lock-down proponents have been caught privately breaking their own rules, revealing that they don't believe their own baloney. They need you to be afraid, but they aren't going to let that inconvenience them in their personal lives.
More lol loudly
I don’t know if this is true or not, but it’s something I can see Twit doing.

I wouldn’t be surprised.

Do you have to keep saying it? I enjoy Twitter because I find lots of information on it. I read Facebook because that’s the only way I can see what my family is doing. I don’t do anything on but read. I read DK because I’ve followed certain people for over a decade and they are still covering important topics. Anything else?

No cell phone? no e-mail?
I'm always in contact with my family, by private communication.
Private on my end. my daughter uses gmail so not private on hers.

Rarely
I found out that my aunt had a severe stroke only because I was bored that night and decided to look at Facebook. It was a life ending stroke unless help is received very quickly. My cousin was talking about DNR and letting her go. No one called me? My cousin did but she had the wrong number. Oh well. Not tell my brother to call me about it or ask my uncle for it. And no one answered when I called. Hours later I found out that she was going to be okay because they gave her the clot buster.
I asked my brother for help with something important and he just told me what to say and do. He didn’t want to drive 20 miles to help me.

Sure. One more thing.
I hate twit and faceplant. Don't use them. Never will.
DK is for those who need help. I follow many from there and don't need kos to tell me what I can and can not say.
I never meant disrespect to you but you took it that way.
Your bad.
Peace and bye.

I'm actually with Pricknick on this one, EXCEPT...
I can think of no practical solution save to silence those cyber-cancers directly, wholly, and permanently (and that would only be a START) - and there's no longer any way to do that that would both be legal and not absurd (are the stockholders going to listen to and heed a well-reasoned argument why they should voluntarily obliterate everything they've built?). I think snoopydawg's displays from
...Twitter at least, add color and immediacy to whatever topic is being discussed. I totally get her sense of humor, which is an added plus.
Twitter is one of the easiest formats to spot and skip over, so you are lucky in that regard. I don't think Twitter will be relevant forever, and the time will come when it will be uncool to post there.
Meanwhile, there are specific items that I research on Twitter, Pandemic topics for example, where I find candid information from people directly involved with the science — long before it becomes news. (If it ever does.) Important clues are frequently dropped there that people should know about.
My 2 cents.
RE BLM-organization dissidents:
They should start waving an alternative banner, something to clearly indicate a schism; of course it would get hideously attacked, but it would go a long way to signalling the end of BLM's presumed moral authority ("moral authority" should be recognized as an oxymoron from square 1, of course, but it seems too many people have already devolved too far for us even to begin talking on that level).
"Black Lives Matter" made sense in 2014-2016; it should never have gone from a slogan to an organization. The latter is not automatically superior to the former.
Chaos is not the problem; Order is. I have so much to say that touches on all this and SO MUCH MORE, but now that the narrative of the past 30 years has been all but completely erased and rewritten, I not even be understood or given a fair chance anymore well enough for me to even begin pitching it. As I've said before, I feel like that woman from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who FINALLY sorted out The Answer To Life, The Universe, and Everything that Earth had originally been built as an ancient supercomputer to arrive at, only for it to be destroyed by the Vogons before she could tell anyone about it.

I have no quarrel with corporate America changing their profit making minds from hate of black people to support for black people. No quarrel, but it is what it is.
Co-optation.
I don't care what kind of house the "leaders" of this corporate sponsored "movement" live in. I care a lot more about "progressives" who do not understand why Disney and all its sponsors put that logo on the floor of the NBA playoffs.
Or why the fucking Advertising Council is now a driving force behind BLM.
