It’s the Covid Rescue Plan Tent Revival! C’mon in!

(biden’s banner on Twitter)

Elmer Gantry would have been so proud of y’all!

@JoeBiden 21h

85% of American households will get direct checks from the American Rescue Plan. For so many Americans, that means they can pay the rent. That means they can put food on the table.

Another Comprador Elite Evangelist speaks ('landmark legislation that will ring through generations' or: the truth hidden in plain sight?) :

@SenSanders Mar 10

A new analysis out today shows that the American Rescue Plan will dramatically reduce poverty. That’s what happens when Congress writes legislation focused on the needs of the working class, not the wealthy and huge corporations. Not complicated!

@AOC
23h
This week in Congress: Dems: Passed $1.9T COVID package to deliver stimulus checks (w/ dependents!), cut child poverty in half, extend $300 UI, prevent cuts in state + local services, largest-ever investment in Native communities, etc GOP: Took a week to read The Cat in the Hat

@AOC 22h
Every single adult in the US will be eligible for the vaccine starting May 1st. May 1st! We can do this. Please get your shot as soon as you can. I can’t wait to have friends and family over, see a show, and experience live music again. What are you most looking forward to?

Irony Alert from Dec. 2020:

@JoeBiden

My dad used to say, “Joey, I don’t expect the government to solve my problems. But I expect it to understand my problems.” Folks out there aren’t looking for a handout — they just need help. They’re in trouble through no fault of their own, and they need us to understand.

Biden says all American adults will be eligible for vaccination by May 1, says rollout ‘months ahead of schedule’, 12 Mar, 2021, RT.com, one outtake:

Though Biden warned the pandemic is still “far from over,” he also suggested there is “a good chance” Americans will be able to safely gather in small groups to celebrate Independence Day this summer, saying it would “not only mark our independence as a nation, but we begin to mark our independence from this virus.” He nonetheless hedged his rosier prediction, warning that a lot could change between now and the holiday and that “things may get worse again.”

In other indy media accounts, Biden & Co. see the virus through nationalistic eyes; no mention, for example, on how this administration's (and U allies) continuing wars and grievous sanctions globally have increased Covid cases or blocked their access to vaccines and PPE if desired. Only wsws had noted that Govs of 7 states have okayed no masks, let alone Joe's three mask rule.

when we are bombing and droning folks in other lands.

Surrounding other countries with our military bases.

Sanctioning and starving those who aren't falling in line at the speed we require.

In spite of all that is shameful and evil about our moribund Empire, I am celebrating with my fellow Americans the things that are going well for residents of the USA.

We are finally, getting the Vaccines out and into arms. If you choose not to be vaccinated, that is still your choice to make.

Workers forced into COBRA or no coverage at all because COBRA is an expensive profit center for Pharma and Private Insurance, will have a brief respite of 6 months free coverage. Not M4A as I'd prefer, but something.

Most of us will be getting Stimulus checks of $1,400 and kids get the same amount. For the first time, College age kids are eligible so a family of 4 can expect $5,600. Not a minimum wage increase, but not nothing.

My hope is that Stand Alone bills for M4A and a Minimum Wage increase will soon be in front of both Houses of Congress. Dropping Medicare age to 60? maybe.

Keep the faith. Call me a sap, but I like how that sounds.

...and a good attitude. If I organize a utopia, you are invited.

I'm probably moving to a third world nation, by choice. (Americans have always been able to live well in such places.) But folks should keep in mind that being the happy recipient of scraps thrown out into the street — for the dogs — while the circumstances causing their economic distress will continue as before, means that they are tacitly accepting a lowered standard of living. All kids will continue to be less well-off than their parents.

z.fin-wages-roaring-20s.png

That Red Line shows the ratio between the average salary/earnings of someone working in the Financial Sector verses the average salary for all other American workers. It spans a century. (The Fin.Sec. people apparently have many more opportunities for bonuses, windfall profits, and "smart" investments.) This situation exactly patterns the notoriously corrupt Roaring Twenties era — even the outrageous levels of war profiteering, and the cynical and depraved faux regulations. Taxes on high incomes were also obscenely low.

The truth is, we've been living third world for quite some time.

Ed Snowden had a similar take to People's dull indifference to the dignity of their privacy, a precious right that is essential to the development of wisdom. He remarked:

When you say, ‘I have nothing to hide,’ you’re not just saying, ‘I don’t care about this right.’ You’re also stating, ‘I don’t have this right, because I’ve got to the point where I have to demand it.’

.
He had just risked his own life to give people evidence of their abuse by the government. He claims he had no expectations about what they would do with that information. That may be true, but would he have risked everything if he knew it was already too late? I mean, I remember realizing that the people were hollowed and helpless when I watched how they behaved on the day of 9/11. Perhaps Snowden was in denial about the people's determined capitualtion to a government with no accountability that betrays them right to their faces.

Shortly after he was stranded in Moscow, against his will, Snowden remarked:

The great fear that I have regarding the outcome for America of these disclosures is that nothing will change. [People] won't be willing to take the risks necessary to stand up and fight to change things.

.
So, within a month of revealing to the USians how the government was secretly abusing their rights, and twisting justice, and fouling democracy — he begins to see that he didn't actually know who the People were. No one in Washington seems to know much about the People and the things they care about, as a collective. They mostly know how to trick them out of campaign donations by dangling elections in front of them that will not change their downward spiral toward shorter lives lived in increasing poverty. Crushed by the voracious demands of their own military — exactly the same as every other fallen Empire.

The one thing that Snowden has said, more recently, that increasingly resonates for me is:

I would rather be without a state than without a voice.

@doh1304 but there's a bigger point.

The government handing out money---now for the third time---sets some precedent.
The Plan cancels Cobra for 6 months. And lowers ACA cost for a year.

All of this I see as the Camel's nose under the tent. A BFD.

The beginning of the end for complete dominance of insurance companies, and banks holding debt.

If Biden does not cancel the $10,000 of student debt many politician's are calling for it will be because the banks understand what that cancellation would mean.

Most likely Biden will "tweak" around the edges, lowering interest rates a bit and shortening repayment years. Just as Obama did.

not doing student loan forgiveness is probably a blessing, given how badly legislation is written in this country (hear me out). That $10k or $50k is to be paid off over 10 years or whatnot by the original agreement.

But if the gummint decided to "forgive" let's say $50k all at once, they'd almost certainly tax it as ordinary income, and it would all come due on that year's taxes. So you'd end up owing the IRS ~$20k all at once the next April (Boom!), instead of owing the lenders $50k over 10 years...

The large print giveth, the fine print taketh away- and the house always wins. Always. I would look at any "forgiveness" with a very large magnifying glass, should it come to pass. If "Protecting the Principle Owed" is the holy grail of bankers, "Taxing The Living Fuck Out Of Everything (Except Corporate Income Or Stock Transactions Because That Would Be Wrong)" is the holy grail of politicians...

lol.. good ole AOC splainin how great the bill is that left half of Americans in poverty still in it. And it only lasts till this fall or so and then everyone who was lifted out of poverty by democrats will rush back into it because they refused to fix the structural problems that causes it which they know very well what they are. But hey take a look at orange state and Biden's walking on water just like St. Zero did when he did nothing for the 99%.

Here is the new gaslighting:

Jayapal, Dingell to Unveil Medicare for All Act Exactly One Year After 1st Covid Cases Confirmed in Every State

Amid a deadly pandemic that has further exposed the absurdity and immorality of tying health insurance to employment, Democratic Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Debbie Dingell are planning to introduce the Medicare for All Act of 2021 this coming Wednesday—exactly one year after the first coronavirus cases were confirmed in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

The bill's official introduction, set for March 17, "is an attempt to link the cause of universal care with the devastation wrought by the pandemic," Politico reported.

"Mark your calendars!" tweeted Jayapal (D-Wash.), a longtime single-payer advocate who was the lead House sponsor of the Medicare for All Act of 2019, which experts at the time characterized as the gold standard for universal healthcare legislation. The bill proposed a two-year transition to a Medicare for All system that would provide comprehensive healthcare to everyone in the U.S. for free at the point of service.

Or they could have pressured 1st the Big P and then Obiden and made it into the bill, but oh no they just couldn't do that cuz it might have pissed the Manch off for some reason because he was the ONLY one who could stick it to us by sticking to his guns of austerity. Guess Jayapal and the Dingbat don't remember Obiden saying that even if congress passed MFA he would veto it and succeed knowing his friends across the isle, both Dem and pub would block it for him. But hey look..they are trying to keep people's hopes up by giving them false hope. Just days after they rolled over. Nope. It's kabukil.

Cuomo Won, But He’s Living in Cynthia Nixon’s World
TO THE VICTOR GO THE SPOILS
New York politics was fundamentally changed on Thursday night, even if the governor will likely remain the same.

Updated Sep. 14, 2018 12:33PM ET Published Sep. 14, 2018 12:11PM ET

“On the face of it, the most exciting New York State primary in a long while ended in disappointment for voters seeking change. Incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his hand-picked slate of candidates — incumbent Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and current New York City Public Advocate Tish James for Attorney General — won, after all.

But while Cuomo’s nearly 30-point victory over Cynthia Nixon is being heralded as a landslide, it is also undeniable that New York will be a demonstrably more progressive state precisely because she ran. Nixon may have secured only slightly more than 30 percent of the vote. But she still proved that primaries matter, even if you get trounced during them.”

--------------------------------------------------------

This article published in 2018 told the story of what was coming very clearly.

Cuomo lost big in that race and New York began the process of change which culminated in the Election of 2020 in which Progressives won Super-Majorities in Both houses.

Now Cuomo has almost NO power. He will be unable to enact any legislation, budget included, that the Progressive Democrats do not support.

Change happens bit by bit. But it happens.

Janet Yellen: 'Not a Fan' of MMT; Proponents 'Confused'
https://moneyandmarkets.com/janet-yellen-mmt-proponents-confused

Mar 25, 2019 • Janet Yellen Is ‘Not a Fan’ of MMT; Proponents ‘Confused’. Former Fed Chair Janet Yellen said at Asian investors conference in Hong Kong that she is not a fan of modern monetary theory, and that its proponents are “confused” about how things like MMT can cause hyper inflation in an economy. MMT is the theory that a government that borrows in its own currency need not worry about

interestingly enough, some of of aoc's detractors in queens tweeted that same photo of tlaib (i'm pretty sure) and AOC meeting with the bolivian oppo regime and acepting their flag as a gift.

to respond to comments yesterday, and thank you all for your comments and additions. i'd hoped to pass this diary off as satire, given a few facts.

one is that the $1.9 trillion 'Rescue Plan' has been signed into law, and yet the white house had announced after joe's prime time speech to the nation (no Qs) that the 'Best Voices' of the D team would be sent out to flog it, either physically or virtually, so all citizens would realize Just How Great this shit is!

second: a comparison. i'd done the math, and discovered that if the same number of peeps who were eligible for the 2016 checks got them, the amounts would add up to about $24 billion. bill gates' GAVI and global fund got $4 billion, and the publicly stated military budget was $704 billion. (nick turse once found about half again that much in other department budgets.)

it's hard to underestimate how economically underwater the amerikan plebs are at this point: evicted from their flats and houses, possibly bouncing checks to pay for essentials, then maybe being sent to modern-day debtors prisons. no one really knows how many are homeless in Amerika, nor really how many hungry (i loather term 'food insecure', but those census numbers are iffy as well.

how many of us have had to declare bankruptcy (either personal or commercial) at this point. and as the depression deepens, it's not just down to lockdowns and so on, but it's sure a part of it, isn't it?

i'd not been feeling well after i'd posted this, but after i'd first peeked in, my vertigo increased, and my physical and psycho-spiritual condition...swirled down the drain. a dream i had in the night did manage to guide me toward healing my spirits a bit, but that's a whole 'nother story, as they say. ; )

so what we had were were the Big D Dogs on social media lying thru their teeth about 'ending childhood poverty' 'resonating for generations', 'lowering ObomaDontCare insurance rates and expanding eligibility (?)and making an EIC next year sound like...relief!. 'eligibility for covid jabs, well...never mind.

when i woke up, i was reminded me of some lyrics from the Blues Brother's 'Rubber Biscuit', and i'll quote them not as they are, but as i'd remembered them, as an overarching label for this Economic Rescue Scheme:

A Wish sandwich they give you
on a Sunday go-to-meeting bun
and you wish you had some meat!

This makes AOC's comments on it even more ridiculous if that was possible.

>Leading Democrats, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have decided to spend tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to subsidize the giant health insurance companies like Aetna and United Healthcare to “cover recently laid-off workers and those who purchase their own coverage,” as The New York Times reported. There are no price restraints on the gouging insurance premiums or loophole-ridden policies. That is why giant corporate socialist insurers love the “American Rescue Plan,” which gives them socialist cash on the barrelhead. The law lets insurers decide how and whether they pay healthcare bills with co-pays, deductibles, or grant waivers. All these anti-consumer details are buried in the endless and inscrutable fine print.

Whatever happened to the Democrats’ (Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pramila Jayapal, etc.) demand for single-payer – everybody in, nobody out – with free choice of doctors and hospitals instead of the existing cruel, and profiteering industry for which enough is never enough? Senator Sanders often mentioned a Yale study, published on February 15, 2020, that found:....

Well, House Speaker Pelosi is discouraging House Democrats from supporting Representative Pramila Jayapal’s H.R. 1384, Medicare for All Act of 2019, the gold standard for single-payer. News reports indicate that Representative Jayapal (D-WA) and Representative. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) will reintroduce their Medicare for All bill next week. Speaker Pelosi is telling Democrats in the House to focus instead on the modest expansion of Obamacare with its corporate welfare, utter complexity and seriously inadequate coverage. Almost eighty million Americans are presently uninsured or underinsured – a level that will not be significantly reduced for deprived workers by tweaking Obamacare during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pelosi is anti American with Nazi tendencies and has been in the house blocking every decent bill while making herself richer that gawd through deals and insider trading that congress voted to make legal for themselves. Even when caught insider dealing they get off. Not one of the 5 members of congress were punished for selling their stocks just after being briefed on how bad the epidemic could get if not attacked. And they not only became even more filthy rich, they did not warn us about it. Not one person broke ranks and warned us what was coming and as RR mentioned, they murdered 500,000 plus of us and the only person who is responsible for EVERY GD DEATH is Don Trump. Go figure. Oh well, he killed 500,000 plus. Cuomo only has less than 20,000 elderly deaths on his hands. As does the Michigan guv. As do most guvs who did the same damn thing as Cuomo because it reduces the costs of elderly care bigly. And I mean bigly. And guess what? Other countries did the same damn thing. No one will ever be held to account for it either. As I said, we have watched a hundreds of thousands of Hitlers have risen up since they kinda put him down.

Was the response from congress a deliberate attempt or a look away from the massive deaths that they caused? Of course it was. If they actually felt bad about every preventable death we'd have had MFA long ago. Instead congress boldly doubled their health coverage and who knows what other perks they gave themselves while telling us that it just can't be done.

A modified Obamacare, with no price ceilings, will hardly reduce the tens of thousands of American deaths every year because people cannot afford health insurance to get diagnosed and treated in time to prevent fatalities. The Yale study also found that: “ensuring health-care access for all Americans would save more than 68,000 lives and 1.73 million life-years every year compared with the status quo.”

LBJ got Medicare done without much hassle. Whatever. It is here and people like it. Congress will keep cutting the budget till they get every person into medicare advantage which Trump is making mandatory starting next year unless Biden cancels the programs. He won't thought cuz he wants everyone in an HMO Medicare plan that ends up screwing people. Big Big time.

Obamacare does nothing to limit the perverse incentives of a fee-for-service system that includes unnecessary operations, over-diagnosis, and over-prescribing all of which increase the risks of preventable casualties.

It took too long for me to see what the plan is which has Hedges has been talking about, but for me to get it. Poor minority areas are where companies are allowed to dump their toxins and that of course causes sickness and disease which drives people's money into the Medical industrial complex just like our never ending wars transfers it into CEO's pockets and shareholders. Ad in every industry that has been privatized and I bet you will see massive wealth transfers.

This Cobra subsidies gives tens of billions right to insurance companies with absolutely no benefit to the insured.

It gets worse. Year after year, the corporate Democrats, along with the Republicans, are facilitating expanding corporate takeovers of Medicare and Medicaid. The giant and widening attack on Medicare is called “Medicare Advantage,” which more accurately should be called “Medicare [Dis]advantage.” Our corporatized government, under both Parties, has been allowing deceptive promotional seductions of elderly people to take Medicare [Dis]advantage – now fully 40% of all Medicare beneficiaries – which is just a corporate insurance plan with multiple undisclosed tripwires.

Yeah good luck getting Biden to overturn what Trump did. So far I am more impressed with what the GOP did during Trump's 1st 100 days when they cancelled most of Obama's last minute executive orders. Just as he planned for them to do. What have dems done with Trump's? Bueller?

Sorry this could be a stand alone essay, but it fits with the Obiden SCAM. Remember when Chicago sold their toll roads to the Saudis and they raised the fees. They also sold their parking meters to JP Morgan Chase. Guess what happened with them? Congress is helping to privatize everything they can. Look for Amazon and Walmart to crack down harder on union workers and to possibly lower their wages. Robots are coming and congress is washing their hands knowing how much misery it will entail and they are gleefully doing not a gd thing.

I think it’s an important topic that needs more exposure. I’m very aware of your deficiencies, but I post for everyone else too.

And I have lots of bad words going through my mind about AOC.

Nothing about Amazon and the people trying to form a union. Now it’s up to us to make noise to congress and beg them to give us something they never will unless something happens to make them. I don’t think she’s going to take Schumer's spot in the senate and she will be lucky to get re-elected.

as well. do i need to acknowledge that every time? i was just mentioning my own deficiencies, esp. given that i read most of your common dreams pieces and internal links.

i think it's important, too. nader was great at enunciating Cobra' deficiencies.

Former President Trump worsened what he inherited from the Democrats in outsourcing Medicare. He launched something called “direct contracting” that, “could fully turn Medicare over to private health insurers” declared Diane Archer, former chair of Consumer Reports, in her article on March 8, 2021. Medicare Advantage premiums can be pricey. According to Kay Tillow, Executive Director of the Nurses Professional Organization, “The Medicare Advantage Plans are smiling all the way to the bank. In 2019 each Medicare Advantage beneficiary cost taxpayers $11,822 while those in original Medicare cost $10,813 each – that’s over $1,000 more and over 9% more per person for the for-profit insurers!”

Where is the outcry among Democratic politicians to reverse completely the corporate takeover of Medicare? Last year, many Democratic candidates pontificated about the need for single-payer health insurance, but now in Congress, we are scarcely hearing a peep about this vital human right. Their campaign rhetoric is just distant memory. Tragically, it is now harder than ever for the elderly to get out of Medicare [Dis]advantage and go back to traditional Medicare.

On a side note, this is a really good diary on nursing homes (DK link)and what is allowed to be done. Congress has for years been letting nursing home lobbyists write bills that further deregulate what can happen to people in homes and there is no legal recourse anymore to hold them accountable. If I am ever in the position that I know I am heading to one I am checking out. I saw the hell holes of Medicaid nursing homes close to 45 years ago and I hated going into it then. I was 18. Ugh. Then it happened to be the only one in Ogden that would allow my brother because of the IVs he was on and the meds. And of course his disease. My heart broke when I heard he was at Madison Gardens. Such a lovely name for a hell hole. Nope. I am not going to be at the mercy of underpaid and overworked people. That the lowest paid workers are in charge of what is supposed to be our cherished elders should appall every one,, but it does not.

A tad on the MA essay:

Advocates Sound Alarm Over Quiet Trump Era Move That Could Further Privatize Medicare

On December 3, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)—then under the leadership of Seema Verma—unveiled an innocuous-sounding proposal titled the Geographic Direct Contracting Model (Geo) with the purported goal of delivering "Medicare beneficiaries value through better care and improved quality."

"Perhaps due to the wonky nature of the discussion," Lieberman added, "the proposed change has generated almost no media coverage although it would upend the health insurance for millions of Americans."

CMS has identified 15 regions as potential sites and will select between four and 10. All are large urban areas, many in counties with the highest per capita Medicare spending in the country. In demonstration regions, virtually all beneficiaries in traditional Medicare will be required to enroll in a DCE, including people dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. Guidance from CMS emphasizes that beneficiaries' out-of-pocket costs will not increase, and that cost-sharing or premiums could decrease if they use in-network providers. DCEs also may offer additional benefits, similar to Medicare Advantage plans.

The extent to which the Geo program resembles privately run Medicare Advantage plans was cause for alarm for Archer, who said that "overall, [MA] enrollees have less access to high quality hospitals and nursing homes than people in traditional Medicare and are subject to widespread and inappropriate delays and denials of care."

There is more and the article is worth a read and a share so others can be aware of what not to do.

Oh cool. A 3 wheel motorcycle just drove by. Do you know how bad I want another one? But can my body drive one anymore? Hmm. Dilemmas.

I just transitioned from SSI to either SSDI or regular SS and was told I would automatically be enrolled in Medicare/Medicaid, but then everything went wonky. I kept getting a new message every week.

You will not have Medicaid after this month...
You will get it but have to pay $332 month
You don't have to pay that cuz you are poor.
You have to only pay $22 a month spend down cuz you make too much money. (I am actually $2,000 under Utah's Medicaid limit)
You only have to pay $12 a month spend down.

There were a few I've forgotten of course so I am waiting to see what happens next week. Yes I have called. Yes I have gotten 50 different answers.

However I am pretty sure that I need to pick a different secondary so I am asking for help if you are able. Please message me and detail what you picked, the good and bad and see if I can get this straighten before I am dumped into Medicare Advantage. The worst thing is that you have networked doctors, hospitals and pharmacies. On a trip to the other side of the country and get sick? You might be on the hook for your whole medical bill.

Pushing people into MA is just a huge show from congress that MFA will never, ever happen here. We are going backwards and gutting the new deal ASAP-er than ever. Yikes. I too want to flee.

@snoopydawg How come I (and likely the majority of Americans) never heard about this?
I checked out the zones. Houston. And it can include more than 1 county.
I am buffered from Houston by 1 county. That county and Harris County, where Houston is located, have all the quality hospitals that serve my little county. That suggests I might get sucked into the MA insurance scam I have avoided thus far because I am so close to Houston.

medicare investigations. Not sure where she went, but if you go back to her posts,
she had a ton of info on the MA scam. TM (traditional medicare) is still the better way to go
if you can. That is also getting scrambled by the corporate wing. I'm now getting the
'unauthorized service' rigamoral and having to pay out of pocket for weird things like sticking a needle in my arm. For an authorized test. Sheesh.

Good luck.
