Haven't found a good sub for Google Translate, which we use a lot for written communications. Always have to correct some of it, but saves lots of time. the expected paths. We have probably paid some high prices for decisions others wouldn't make. Biggest one lately, in spite of all the crap or maybe because they can't get away from the crap, is moving to France.
Oh the horrors, traitors, and losers. We can read between the lines. Friends and family alike.
We push on, and think we made one of the best decisions we could have.
Professionally we both marched to different drummers: both admired and reviled for just being who we are. Amazing. We do deserve each other.
Thanks for the island in the stream.

Oh you know, those French, and when are you coming back to the US. Plus with exceptions, we get friends and family who know so much more about our local wines and habits than we who have been here since 2014. And no questions, or curiosity. There is so much here and in Europe to marvel over, study and understand.
We revise our understanding of what we see and hear quite often, folding new understandings into growing comprehension.

cartels, gangs and stuff) was that you get a 99 year lease and do not own the land a house is set on. We really like the Pacific coast - Puerta Villarta is so nice. Easy on the money, comfortable climate. Not sure about medical access.
Here we have been to the Vienna Philharmonic in Paris at the old Élysee Theatre. Where so many impressionist music and ballet were premiered. The famous riot for Rite of Spring (Sacre du Printemps) was in that street. Our location is great for getting almost anywhere in Europe. We go to Malta for dental. Italy is five hours by car. We've taken a sleeper on the way back from Prague.
Love Genoa and the drive there, and Turin (Torino). Waiting for Milan. Trains are spectacular. Except for the ten minutes to the little train station, we could go anywhere by train.
If we ever get out from COVID, if people from Caucus 99 would like a true French experience, let us know. I'm not worried about inundation, so the welcome mat is out.

If I’m still fit enough to travel when lockdown finally lifts, I may take you up on that offer someday from my perch en Allemagne.
My friend in Amsterdam introduced me to this Dutch travel bureau that is totally specialized and focused on travel by train. Their name means “train trip store.”

I admit to being afraid this site would disappear. That I would wake up one morning and it would just be gone. This is the only place I get my news from. Not propaganda crap, but actual news.
I'm glad to hear it's not going anywhere in the near future. I wish I could afford to donate something because this site is truly the best place on the net. Love you all.
Don't worry about the donation thing, having you here with us is good enough for me.

I happily support it, and am appreciative of it and you.
Naturally, like you all, I wonder what c99 needs for support to ensure everlasting wellbeing. For me, I find it helpful to take time for reflection of these questions. One question for me is, why is there diminishing support in terms of the variety and uniqueness of the people who contribute here. I don’t know, but I hope we will find more clarity and insight in order to solidify the future of our already existing strong base.
Even I sometimes think about walking away so that I'll have to think about it less (I always decide to stay, for obvious reasons). It wouldn't surprise me if some folks went away for sanity's sake. Politics is toxic; it's hard to focus on it and keep your mental health.

is satisfied at times by taking breaks. I'm sure we all do it to some degree, and it's healthy. There are just many wonderful voices that seem to have disappeared altogether. I think these altered times also have something to do with it. I just hope we keep varied enough content to create and sustain more interest. It would also inspire people still here commenting and writing essays to continue.

You might want to give some consideration to those Facebook/Twitter like and share icons, however (the ones between "TAGS" and "vote" under each essay).
Any page that features those is collecting data on all users connecting to the page, which means that we are all, in a sense, by being here supporting Big Tech...
Any chance of losing those? Do people here use them for anything constructive?
Say Hello to the Pixel
As you travel through the web, you’re likely to encounter Facebook Like or Share buttons, which the company calls Social Plugins, on all sorts of pages, from news outlets to shopping sites. Click on a Like button and you can see the number on the page’s counter increase by one; click on a Share button and a box opens up to let you post a link to your Facebook account.
But that’s just what’s happening on the surface.
“If those buttons are on the page, regardless of whether you touch them or not, Facebook is collecting data,” Oppenheim says.
Behind the scenes, every web page contains little bits of code that request the pictures, videos, and text that browsers need to display each item on the page. These requests typically go out to a wide swath of corporate servers—including Facebook—in addition to the website’s owner. And such requests can transmit data about the site you’re on, the browser you are using, and more. Useful data gets sent to Facebook whether you click on one of its buttons or not. If you click, Facebook finds out about that, too. And it learns a bit more about your interests.
In addition to the buttons, many websites also incorporate a Facebook Pixel, a tiny, transparent image file the size of just one of the millions of pixels on a typical computer screen. The web page makes a request for a Facebook Pixel, just as it would request a Like button. No user will ever notice the picture, but the request to get it is packaged with information.
“You can use Pixels to measure all kinds of activity on a site,” says Joey Muller, a partner at Sum Digital, a digital advertising agency based in San Francisco. “We use Facebook Pixels in every single case. It’s the first step when I talk to someone about redesigning a site.”
Facebook explains what data can be collected using a Pixel, such as products you’ve clicked on or added to a shopping cart, in its documentation for advertisers. Web developers can control what data is collected and when it is transmitted.
The technology helps Muller’s clients target ads to consumers while providing Facebook with data about what millions of people read, shop for, and watch online as they move around the web.
“If you’re logged into Facebook with the same browser you use to surf the web, the company knows exactly who you are and the vast majority of the websites you visit,” Oppenheim says.
Even if you’re not logged in, the company can still associate the data with your IP address and all the websites you’ve been to that contain Facebook code.
I doubt many people know that if they land on a page where FB is lurking with its like button that it is a way for FB to track you to other sites you visit after leaving that page EVEN IF you didn't push the like button. How that was allowed to stand since they started doing it shows the true contempt that social media and congress has for our right to privacy. No where did we debate using that scam to follow us everywhere. Oh maybe they did in their fine print that few read, but if they did how much would their self censorship cost them by their limiting where they can read? Truly a dilemma.
Appreciate the efforts and sentiment JtC.

old buddy. Keep on keeping on.
Yay!
Thank you Jen...
I'm here until the beer tapper runs dry.
Don't worry about the donation thing, having you here with us is good enough for me.
Thanks JtC

Will try to make the checkbook work more often.
Worth every dime, man.
question everything
Thanks brother...
may your jib catch a fair breeze.
Thanks JtC
I'm sure having C99 as a safe harbor has been a blessing for all here.

Ah, that is so good to hear, a fighter through and through, this
site has to stay and if I just had a technical guy to help me getting my messy 'puter' making the quack quack I want them to do, life would be paradise.
Ok, I stand up and kick my 'puters' in the behind til they serve me as they should. I. see light at the end of the tunnel.
I had no idea I would be able to say, 'Man, I love you for your attitude'. Never give up.
We shall survive.
Thanks JtC to be here for all of us.

I kicked my puter in the behind and it should
do now what I wanted. Hope it helps a little bit to keep the lights on.

is this a real danger?
what can they really do to caucus 99?
Granted they could take us off of Google searches, but don't they already do that?

Best stuff
I've heard in a while JtC. Thanks for keeping this place going.
reminds me it's time to donate!
thanks and hang in there .
Grateful
I am grateful everyday I found this place. You are one of my sanity linchpins. A haven. I may not chime in often, but I am here. Thank you.
This is a wonderful refuge at all times.
Politics is a rough topic; has been very rough
for the past 4 years.
Even I sometimes think about walking away so that I'll have to think about it less (I always decide to stay, for obvious reasons). It wouldn't surprise me if some folks went away for sanity's sake. Politics is toxic; it's hard to focus on it and keep your mental health.

I'm sure one's desire for sanity
is satisfied at times by taking breaks.
Unique voices - Where is Big Al? Mark from Queens? dkmich?
and some others whose names I have to search for, because I have forgotten them. There are lots of voices who had been here in the beginning and are not anymore. Unfortunately.
I wonder why. Help me understanding it.

Glad to hear you say that, JtC!
And as always, many thanks.

Great news jtc
This is good to hear it has been the sole place of sanity for me and I rarely comment but read it every day and donate monthly. I would like to know if I ever need to increase the donation if so let me know. Thanks for all you and all of the contributors do to keep this site running.
A place where it’s OK to show how mainstream narratives are lies
Mahalo, JtC, for maintaining this rare archipelago of sanity. May the spirit of truth continue to burn nobly within you in heart and mind, and within us all, like the fires of Madam Pele in her abode beneath Halemaumau and Lō‘ihi.
Wow. Just found this. Was this up when I wrote my fundraiser?
Feeling muy estupido. Ah well. Fantastic exposition and glad to hear it. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks. Did some of the Loire valley once upon a time,

and Lyon and maybe even visited that Chateau. Don't recall going to Saone, but I vaguely think we might've got to Dijon, and from Lyon to Dijon at that,

Sharing with Facebook
Appreciate the efforts and sentiment JtC.
From Consumer Reports:
This is a great point that needs to go viral
I doubt many people know that if they land on a page where FB is lurking with its like button that it is a way for FB to track you to other sites you visit after leaving that page EVEN IF you didn't push the like button. How that was allowed to stand since they started doing it shows the true contempt that social media and congress has for our right to privacy. No where did we debate using that scam to follow us everywhere. Oh maybe they did in their fine print that few read, but if they did how much would their self censorship cost them by their limiting where they can read? Truly a dilemma.
