Here we have been to the Vienna Philharmonic in Paris at the old Élysee Theatre. Where so many impressionist music and ballet were premiered. The famous riot for Rite of Spring (Sacre du Printemps) was in that street. Our location is great for getting almost anywhere in Europe. We go to Malta for dental. Italy is five hours by car. We've taken a sleeper on the way back from Prague.
Love Genoa and the drive there, and Turin (Torino). Waiting for Milan. Trains are spectacular. Except for the ten minutes to the little train station, we could go anywhere by train.
If we ever get out from COVID, if people from Caucus 99 would like a true French experience, let us know. I'm not worried about inundation, so the welcome mat is out.

is satisfied at times by taking breaks. I'm sure we all do it to some degree, and it's healthy. There are just many wonderful voices that seem to have disappeared altogether. I think these altered times also have something to do with it. I just hope we keep varied enough content to create and sustain more interest. It would also inspire people still here commenting and writing essays to continue.

Any page that features those is collecting data on all users connecting to the page, which means that we are all, in a sense, by being here supporting Big Tech...

Click on a Like button and you can see the number on the page’s counter increase by one; click on a Share button and a box opens up to let you post a link to your Facebook account.
But that’s just what’s happening on the surface.
“If those buttons are on the page, regardless of whether you touch them or not, Facebook is collecting data,” Oppenheim says.
Behind the scenes, every web page contains little bits of code that request the pictures, videos, and text that browsers need to display each item on the page. These requests typically go out to a wide swath of corporate servers—including Facebook—in addition to the website’s owner. And such requests can transmit data about the site you’re on, the browser you are using, and more. Useful data gets sent to Facebook whether you click on one of its buttons or not. If you click, Facebook finds out about that, too. And it learns a bit more about your interests.
In addition to the buttons, many websites also incorporate a Facebook Pixel, a tiny, transparent image file the size of just one of the millions of pixels on a typical computer screen. The web page makes a request for a Facebook Pixel, just as it would request a Like button. No user will ever notice the picture, but the request to get it is packaged with information.
“You can use Pixels to measure all kinds of activity on a site,” says Joey Muller, a partner at Sum Digital, a digital advertising agency based in San Francisco. “We use Facebook Pixels in every single case. It’s the first step when I talk to someone about redesigning a site.”
Facebook explains what data can be collected using a Pixel, such as products you’ve clicked on or added to a shopping cart, in its documentation for advertisers. Web developers can control what data is collected and when it is transmitted.
The technology helps Muller’s clients target ads to consumers while providing Facebook with data about what millions of people read, shop for, and watch online as they move around the web.
“If you’re logged into Facebook with the same browser you use to surf the web, the company knows exactly who you are and the vast majority of the websites you visit,” Oppenheim says.

I doubt many people know that if they land on a page where FB is lurking with its like button that it is a way for FB to track you to other sites you visit after leaving that page EVEN IF you didn't push the like button. How that was allowed to stand since they started doing it shows the true contempt that social media and congress has for our right to privacy. No where did we debate using that scam to follow us everywhere. Oh maybe they did in their fine print that few read, but if they did how much would their self censorship cost them by their limiting where they can read? Truly a dilemma.

one hour NW of Lyon. We are less than an hour from the named wine villages of Burgundy, and half an hour from the Roannaise and the Madelines. Each department is named for a river or in our case two. We sit between them. Lots of water in France.

Naturally, like you all, I wonder what c99 needs for support to ensure everlasting wellbeing. For me, I find it helpful to take time for reflection of these questions. One question for me is, why is there diminishing support in terms of the variety and uniqueness of the people who contribute here. I don’t know, but I hope we will find more clarity and insight in order to solidify the future of our already existing strong base.
Politics is a rough topic; has been very rough
for the past 4 years.
Even I sometimes think about walking away so that I'll have to think about it less (I always decide to stay, for obvious reasons). It wouldn't surprise me if some folks went away for sanity's sake. Politics is toxic; it's hard to focus on it and keep your mental health.

I'm sure one's desire for sanity
is satisfied at times by taking breaks. I'm sure we all do it to some degree, and it's healthy. There are just many wonderful voices that seem to have disappeared altogether. I think these altered times also have something to do with it. I just hope we keep varied enough content to create and sustain more interest. It would also inspire people still here commenting and writing essays to continue.

Any page that features those is collecting data on all users connecting to the page, which means that we are all, in a sense, by being here supporting Big Tech...

I doubt many people know that if they land on a page where FB is lurking with its like button that it is a way for FB to track you to other sites you visit after leaving that page EVEN IF you didn't push the like button. How that was allowed to stand since they started doing it shows the true contempt that social media and congress has for our right to privacy. No where did we debate using that scam to follow us everywhere. Oh maybe they did in their fine print that few read, but if they did how much would their self censorship cost them by their limiting where they can read? Truly a dilemma.
