No Extradition for Assange
"The court makes clear that it would have granted the U.S. extradition request if not for concerns about #Assange’s mental health, and about the severe conditions in which the U.S. would likely imprison him.” - @knightcolumbia #AssangeCase https://t.co/GzzrHN11YG

"Today is a victory for Julian… [but the US] continues to want to punish Julian and make him disappear into the deepest, darkest hole of the US prison system"

Trying to have it both ways
attempting to please the Empire's Deep State and humanitarian concerns too. "He's guilty as sin, but if we let you extradite him he'll off himself so we can't allow that".
And OF COURSE the Deep State will appeal, and the case will drag on and on and on.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Well if he wants to do the deed
and if they are afraid of the risks then they should release him and let him finally get medical attention that has been stolen from him for over a decade. Gawd I hope one day he releases the files that would put the US authorities in deep dawg shit. Let them defend that.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
The ruling
Judge blocks the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States, ruling the abusive U.S. prison system could not protect him from suicide
You HAVE to read the rest of her ruling to see how much the power elite despises the Effing Rule of LAW!!

ETA this LIE:
A few weeks ago a recording of Assange's call to the State Department that showed her warned them that they were coming. ANd not one person was harmed from the leaks that were NOT Wikileaks' fault.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
welcome, snoop.
i'll add a few more excerpts from assange defense's overview of baraitser's ruling, but first, as to this one:
in their live tweets, she'd actually noted that the US/UK extradition treaty hadn't been enshrined into british law, so she had to go by the 2003 version had precedence. how does it get 'enshrined' into law save by a judge like yourelf?
anyhoo:
as to the UCGlobal spying, from their live tweeting, this:

Mexico offers Assange asylum
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Too close to the USA for comfort
Does the USA actually want him out of the UK so that assassination will have fewer political consequences?
Will they use polonium and blame it on Putin?
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Hard to say but here is Greenwald's take
Rising covered the breaking news and you should look at what Glenn has to say. Just a few minutes in.
Bottom line is that the judge accepted all of the US government's accusations and rejected Assange's defense. This still does not bode well for him or any journalist. The effing AP finally covered the trial and while it diidn't go out of its way to say this is bad at least it did not smear Assange. Small comfort.

U.S. is a global empire. No place is safer
But recall that Mexico gave safe haven to Bolivia's president.
This is actually a terrible ruling, otherwise.
Bueno!
NYCVG
Where does 'protective custody' end
and tearing open ops to assassination attempts begin?
They tried to silence Julian behind bars
now the Brits are going to give the US
'intelligence' agencies open season, not in jail
to silence the push back to war crimes.
We'll see. Why Australia doesn't take him back?
He has to go to other countries for protection.
The empire can not let this loose cannon free.
Too much exposure risk. Hate to say it but
his free time on this earth is limited. He has been
judged as a danger to the ptb's control of information.
Premature to celebrate at this point.
Until Assange walks free, all “good news” about his case should be looked on askance. Empires can not permit any exoneration for those who reveal inconvenient truths about their crimes. This “victory” has won nothing but a continuation of an indefinite term of confinement.

Indeed
I don't think anyone is actually relieved about the verdict except that he isn't being sent here right now. But her ruling should give every journalist a cold chill including the ones who parrot the party line. If Wikileaks is guilty of the charges then so are the NYT, Guardian and other papers that published. The guardian should be charged for releasing all files even though Wikileaks were redacting public info.
Kevin writes about it. Good thread.

Chris Hedges on Scheerpost
Chris Hedges: The Empire is Not Done with Julian Assange
I am not clear about the copyrights violations if I would excerpts from the scheerpost.com's article. but Chris Hedges is always worth reading.
It says on the bottom of the story: Copyright 2020 Chris Hedges. Repost freely, giving appropriate credit to ScheerPost.com and Chris Hedges.
Ok, it is a long piece. Just read it. I remember the name of Michael Ratner and was at the time impressed by him. But now I am old and worn out , with holes in my brain. I hate getting that old. Good Night.
