KABUKI
~

h/t lookout
.

There was a time when I would roll out of bed and onto the floor (my bed was not far off the floor) and do yoga. Go for a run. Eat. Ride my bike to the graduate studio and work. This is a pattern that I have continued for most of my life. It stabilizes me. It is a consistent thread that runs through my life.

Because #Iamresilient. We. Are. Resilient.

.
Things are in flux. We need to remember who we are. The curtain is being pulled aside. Many things are culminating.

We. Are. Resilient. Together.

One of the ways I cope is to retreat into science. Hang on to your socks, because there’s a lot unfolding.

The sleeping giant of the carbon cycle, the arctic methane, is beginning to be released.

Shell Oil is using solar power for its fracking operations.

Not surprisingly, climate change is creating clouds that are heavily laden with water droplets and ice crystals which trap outgoing infrared radiation and help to accelerate the formation of hurricanes.

Beyond science there is anti-science.

The far right in Germany is attacking scientists as their COVID-19 infections explode.

Herd immunity is the new US strategy for COVID-19.

The whole election debacle is righteously frightening. It remains to be seen how crazy it will be.

Right-wing violence and police repression hangs over the US election.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. Knowing what is going on helps me to stay centered. I do however avoid the Kabuki theater of the election. It will soon be over and who knows what the next chapter will be with regards to that.

REPORT ALL INJURIES
Report All Injuries Resilient.jpg
.

The times are changing. I can feel it.

Can you? How are you staying sane, being resilient, thinking outside the Kabuki box?
.

It's your open thread, now...

A new material for separating CO2 from industrial waste gases, natural gas, or biogas

Chemists at the University of Bayreuth have developed a material that could well make an important contribution to climate protection and sustainable industrial production. With this material, the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) can be specifically separated from industrial waste gases, natural gas, or biogas, and thereby made available for recycling. The separation process is both energy efficient and cost-effective.
...
The new material is an inorganic-organic hybrid. The chemical basis is clay minerals consisting of hundreds of individual glass platelets. These are only one nanometre thick each, and arranged precisely one above the other. Between the individual glass plates there are organic molecules that act as spacers. Their shape and chemical properties have been selected so that the pore spaces created are optimally tailored to accumulate CO2. Only carbon dioxide molecules can penetrate into the pore system of the material and be retained there. In contrast, methane, nitrogen, and other exhaust gas components must remain outside due to the size of their molecules.

How are you staying sane, being resilient, thinking outside the Kabuki box?

I am not sure I do stay sane, but not watching TV, not reading the internets, not talking to people surrounding me, but offering to be the punch ball for those, when they need punching someone.

How sane is that?

Enjoy life as long as you have it. That seems to be reasonable sanity.

Life is beautiful to have. Make sure everyone can keep it.

whatta wild night with 3.2 inches of rain and 30-40 MPH winds as Zeta passed by.

Once it gets light I'll check out the road and see how it fared. I raked leaves out of the weeps and ditches yesterday, so I'm hopeful wash is at a minimum.

Climate chaos is among us. Fires on the left coast, snow and ice in the SW, and hurricanes and tornadoes in the SE...all on the same day. Only the willing ignorant can't see.

My coping skills start with humor...laugh or cry...I prefer laughter (at myself if nothing else). I tend to vary my days with walks or bike rides mixed with gardening and just the maintenance required here on the homestead.

I need to re-learn this one which you brought to mind. Sing 'em or lose 'em...

35 miles south of Atlanta. We escaped the power outages some of our neighbors endured. The polls for early voting were closed until noon in my county, but up in Cobb County power outages kept polls closed all day. I can’t help but wonder if the power outages were an excuse to keep the polls closed so soon before the end of early voting.

We rounded up our solar lanterns, filled water jugs (we have a well), pre-ground the coffee, and had water in the kettle...that may be why we didn't lose power.

Glad to hear you had no issues.

We plan to go to the polls next Tuesday. There are usually only 60 people (or less) that vote there, so we feel it is safe.

A lot of big oaks have done damage all over. A couple in their 20s were killed in bed by a falling tree in Gwinnett County. We were so lucky.

While the ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to threaten millions of lives around the world, the first half of 2020 saw an unprecedented decline in CO2 emissions -- larger than during the financial crisis of 2008, the oil crisis of the 1979, or even World War II. An international team of researchers has found that in the first six months of this year, 8.8 percent less carbon dioxide was emitted than in the same period in 2019 -- a total decrease of 1551 million tonnes. The groundbreaking study not only offers a much more precise look at COVID-19's impact on global energy consumption than previous analyses. It also suggests what fundamental steps could be taken to stabilize the global climate in the aftermath of the pandemic.

"What makes our study unique is the analysis of meticulously collected near-real-time data," explains lead author Zhu Liu from the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University in Beijing. "By looking at the daily figures compiled by the Carbon Monitor research initiative we were able to get a much faster and more accurate overview, including timelines that show how emissions decreases have corresponded to lockdown measures in each country. In April, at the height of the first wave of Corona infections, when most major countries shut down their public life and parts of their economy, emissions even declined by 16.9 %. Overall, the various outbreaks resulted in emission drops that we normally see only on a short-term basis on holidays such as Christmas or the Chinese Spring Festival.

Change is not coming, it’s already here. We are all shifting, together, as a planet. Covid is helping with the shift. Everything happening is also in the astrology. Beautiful changes are taking place.

I’m staying sane by being in awe of the shift. I want to learn more, be involved more with it. Help others in their transformation.

I’ve been given the opportunity to be free to begin such a journey.

not within my realm at the moment, except this little place in cyberspace. C99 is my refuge.

While many are having a hard time with the social isolation of this COVID thing, I've been cooped up in 216 sqft for almost 4 yrs, not allowed to talk about politics, the Climate Crisis or my health, the 3 most important things to me.

20200805_104959.jpg

What keeps me sane, well that would be my little princess, Gigi. She has nothing but unconditional love for me.

_MG_8035.JPG

Poor thing, she's been traumatized by all the City Inspectors, the Fire Marshall, AT&T techs, Fire Alarm techs and inspections. Neither of us are supposed to be living here, it's "against the law".

If there is a knock on my door, she immediately runs and hides. I feel so bad. I just can't earn enough money to get out of this hell hole.

I got a band that moved next door to my studio a couple of weeks ago, and they like to play after midnight and go till dawn. Crazy The music ranges from Tejano Rap one night, then it's death, speed metal the next, then some kind of jazz-fusion another.

I'm pretty much sleep deprived at this point. (The diversity of music is cool through, but unfortunately, they are really not that good...yet. They're working on it.)

Heck, if I could afford a set of dentures, I might just be able to get a "consulting gig" to make real money, but the neat trick of the dental insurance is you have to have it for a year, before they will pay 40% to 50% to get dentures.

The battery in my truck died yesterday. Did you know those things now cost over 100 bucks? For a battery! (Which I can't afford as usual...) But, the good news is, I own my truck out right! I just can't drive it now...

So I read a lot, down load and watch a lot of movies, TV shows, lot's of youtube vids. And of course Gigi and I play case, as much as we can in this little space.

If I were a betting man, I would bet I'm clinically depressed.

today that the mood you expressed in this video represents the mood of what C99p is today?

BTW, I made a big mistake months ago to close down my US based paypal account, which I opened years agp in the US and was connected to my US accounts.

Now I can't open here from Germany a new paypal account that is US-based. I can only open one that is Germany (EU ?) based. It drives me nuts.

I can't afford anymore to support a lot of sites, which I used to support, when I still was living in the US physically. I am so tired of all this bs. That one really has - as the only option - to send cash in a letter, is beyond me.

I hope someone can help you. And I wish you all the luck you need for it.

One's character development. Spend a day helping a pair of 5 year olds with online kindergarten when they have just switched from using IPads to Chrome laptops. If you need clues about this, the ones I was with were fascinated with the little arrow they could move around, but not aim accurately, and with all the keyboard buttons.

My character development has a long way to go, I fear. On the positive side, the kids were so thrilled when finished for the day, they forgave all.

Sen. Lee compares President Trump to Book of Mormon hero Captain Moroni

Making some final pleas to Christian voters at a rally for President Donald Trump in Arizona on Wednesday, Utah Sen. Mike Lee compared the president to Captain Moroni from the Book of Mormon.

"To my Mormon friends, my Latter-day Saint friends," Lee said. "Think of him as Captain Moroni. He seeks not power but to pull it down. He seeks not the praise of the world or the fake news, but he seeks the wellbeing and the peace of the American people."

Heh heh read the comments:

Yes the last thing that I think of when I see Trump is righteousness, godliness and humility. They guys has a golden penthouse for crying out loud. I don't know what to think of Mike anymore.

The angel Maroni is on top of every Mormon temple and for Lee to compare Trump to him is a huge fo pa with Mormons.

Lee has sunk to a new low point with his comments. Captain Moroni is one of my BoM (Book of Mormon) heroes and was a true leader...the polar opposite of Trump. Capt. Moroni fought along side his people on the front lines, leading them to victorious battles and counseled with religious leaders along the way. Trump uses the office to enrich himself and his family making millions from his businesses and we the taxpayers have foot the bill. The photo op with the bible is as close to religion that he will ever get...

It was all news to me. I was in an invitational show up at UCSC called "Thou shalt not" put on by a psychologist that specialized in recovery for people who were trying to extricate themselves from different christian religions. Wow, did I get an education. Try to leave the Mormon Church. Not. Really interesting stuff in that exhibition. Right. Highest Kingdom. That's what it's called. And I know another person from work that did graduate work in Utah. I forgot what. But he said that he knew people that had 'businesses' that were really just a front for polygamist relationships - one husband, many wives. Nice guy. Was doing some kind of graduate work at Stanford.

outside the Mormon church can buy into it because their beliefs are hard to believe. I named the first one I was told, but the more you hear the more you go huh? My brother used to hate the missionaries that came to our house to preach. We thought one time he’d go too far, but then my friend asked me why he was meeting with the home teachers. I just laughed and said you know how much he hates them, but alas it was true. Why? His now wife. Poor her...when they told my mom that they were engaged she broke down in tears and asked how could he join the church? His wife never forgot that slight and she held it against mom from then on. Mom was generous with the kids and all their wedding, baby, wedding, baby showers. One nephew got married twice in the temple and he’s now on his 3rd. Of course the first two had some mental issues and I understood why he divorced them, but still. It’s their holy n thou attitude that gets me.

As for the polygamy I’m not sure that it’s rampant in Utah. There are a few societies where they do it, but they are not connected to the church. This would be very hard to break away from since it’s all they know since birth. And I have no idea why the government doesn’t crack down on welfare fraud through food stamps. The same reason they don’t crack down on Walmart?

If you want to get ahead in business then your best chance is to belong to it. My brother has held some very high positions in Utah. He’s now doing something with medical insurance, but he won’t tell me what. And he’s usually a republican. How anyone from the church can support Trump baffles me because of his adultery and other nefarious scamdals.

Good chat. Thanks.
