Good morning everyone.
Well we've gotten our rain, finally.
It started early Sunday and hasn't let up since. Mostly sprinkles, but heavier at times. It certainly is washing the late summer pollen into the ground and raising the humidity everywhere inside and out.
Welcome relief from the sneezing attacks.
We came home from the farm Sunday, and I was looking forward to some world news regarding the Middle East but found nothing but lies and propaganda on the boob tube.
It's what made me recall the term boob tube.
What a wasteland the main stream media has become. There is no news fit for dissemination.
Monday morning I started sorting one half-hour news segment and found there was mostly straight-up commercials, then infomercials disguised as new products on the market, and constant reminders of a don't miss human interest story "coming right up" that strings you along until the last two minutes of the broadcast.
Interspersed throughout the half hour are self promotions of the news station itself and their awards for dubious reporting.
Then the parent corporations get their free ads for newly released movies and later evening sitcoms or shows.
All in all, about 6 minutes of actual news relevant to what is going on.
The weather and traffic is the only actual news given. And one of them is wrong 50% of the time.
Walter Cronkite must be rolling in his grave.
It certainly makes me appreciate this site, and many others, and realize how precarious our information chain is.
It could be broken at any moment (checks batteries in shortwave radio).

I've gone back
into my essay history and the banner is gone from all of them also. I usually copy/paste the banner and insert onto several dozen OT "drafts" and save them in my drafts file account.
Makes it easier to drag up a fresh OT to edit every Tuesday morning.
Now, like you, I'm thinking it could be a bug or something.

News media are given talking points from a 3 letter agency. It is propaganda.
3 letter agencies have been editing or actually writing movie scripts since the 30s. It is propaganda.
How infomercials make any difference, since the viewing audience can barely afford food, is a head scratcher. I might watch tv for a few minutes when traveling. Haven't had tv at home since the 90s. Most ads I see are Big Pharma ads.
Site members do an incredible job of finding alt-media truths. I do not have sufficent kudos for them.On another note, this man's journey with a bird rescue reminds me of my journey with Vinnie Vulture.

Good morning e1, thanks for the OT. If you check your code to
invoke the banner you'll see that it makes a call to an image stored on the host and there are many ways it can be temporarily unreachable that have nothing to do with you.
We actually get a bunch of use out of our TV, certain football games, a bunch of content from our local PBS station, British mysteries, travelogues, cooking shows, etc. Also, believe it or not, the news. We still get out and about a lot and our area is one where we need to be and actually are informed of all of the road and highway closures and estimated duration thereof, actual or anticipated flooding, relatively local wildfires, locales that have fallen into the ocean or gone up in smoke and what sports teams are playing at home during what hours leading to unimaginable congestion in certain areas, roads and transit systems. There are also shitloads of congestion causing college events and we have shitloads of colleges in the area - Hayward state, San Jose state, SF state, St. Mary's, USF, Cal, Stanfoo, and more. We jump straight to such news because if we watch the other shit I start arguing with the talking heads and that bugs my wife.
