Evening all. I hope you are enjoying whatever changes are happening in nature as Autumn approaches. Hopefully human nature is also weathering the transition in seasons with some beauty and wonder. Have an enjoyable weekend.

great vid otc! I couldn't get an ID though... there are a bunch of these. Might be a Hemaris sps.? A fair number of them are diurnal, or partly so, and will be out on cloudy days especially. The plants look great! Go for it on the birdfeeder! Even if you can't take pix, you will see lots of stuff closer and better than ever. It is fun, especially in winter. Nearish cover, and not too close to a window. On a cable/wire with a pulley/crank and you can keep squirrels off it, reel in and out to refill. The squirrels are the hard part.

can be amazingly complex. For instance, even birders did not realize until biologists studied it, I think it was a couple women if I recall... what sounded like a chickadee alarm note, had 9 variations, each for a different threat. One must consider that not only the chickadees learn these, but other things in the forest do too, just like birds or squirrels respond to each others alarms. Yes they are talking to each other.

If you put up a feeder also put up in a birdbath. That should help keep the birds coming around. If photos are not possible get some bird watching binoculars. It's a great way to see them up close. I spend way more time watching birds through a pair of binoculars than through a camera lens.
#4 I should put up a feeder. I have birds everywhere, just no way to catch a photo of them.

GREAT photos SP! Both adult and immature White-crowned Sparrows are in I see. Love that Cassin's Kingbird (the one with the yellow underparts and white throat contrasting with gray all around it) pic #6. The Song Sparrow at the bath is great too (#4). On the Mourning Doves, the right hand bird is a juvenile, recently fledged, the other two are adults, probably its. GREAT photo!

Just found a screenshot of a bird that I saw, or, should say, "scared off" at our side-yard bird bath, yesterday (there were 3 of them). Obviously, some type of bluebird, but a bird which I rarely see in our backyard.
Anyhoo, Duck-Duck-Go'd, and it was an Eastern Bluebird. So, here's a photo that pretty much illustrates the beauty of the little fellows. Unfortunately, they all flew away, immediately.
I'm glad they visited you. They are such a beautiful bird, and I'm happy to see even a photo of them again.
All the best to you three, and your visitors.

Here is a Cooper's Hawk at our bath. Why you need cover near birdbath or feeders.
This is a head crop.
Got a little better pic of a Texas Wasp Moth. A diurnal moth that is a wasp mimic to keep from being bugged. Those spatulate tarsi are amazing.
This is a pale morph female Large Orange Sulphur imbibing water off the patio.
I haven't ID'd this yet, my policy is to shoot first and ask questions later. Once you have some documentation, a reference photo, then you can set about finding an ID.
Hope everyone is doing well!

GREAT Mirror Lake pics EL! Last time I went there to take pix, decades ago, there was wind so no mirror. What a beautiful place. There is a fall Cerulean Warbler record from there, maybe in the 60's or 70's. Probably an altitude record in the states.

Janis, I have to admit that with your first photo I immediately envisioned it as a green conga drum which had gotten too close to some stage lighting!
For the second, all I could see was some crazy cartoon birds with ridiculously long comic necks, craning to see some other crazy cartoon animals! With "the birds," there was Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner music filling my head ...whatever music that would be!
