Every step taken in mindfulness brings us one step closer to healing ourselves and the planet. - Thich Nhat Hanh
Greetings. Filling in for smiley today. He is making good progress on his venture away from cyberspace (per Janis B). The inspiration for this theme stems from a conversation with an old friend out on the deck during a long, lazy afternoon over cups of liquid refreshment. After hashing out the 'downfall of civilization', we worked on possible solutions. The salient points distilled down to *healing* as something we could do to escape this ride into oblivion. Thought I'd share some.
Perhaps it is a cultural thing, but having "looking out for # 1" pounded into our developing minds seems to have created a selfish world view. An example would be our present POTUS. Competition is heralded as the path to success. Most here would probably argue cooperation as being the better option for the greater good.
Healing in a cooperative manner entails many forms: mental, spiritual, physical and global. There are many individuals and societies in our history that one associates with healing qualities. My belief is that one does not need to be a trained, licensed healer to be effective. It is inherent in humanity to have this energy somewhere inside. Call it a preservation instinct.
A willingness to being open, caring and sensitive to the needs of others is a form of healing. Respecting and nurturing nature is another. Have you been in the presence of a healing force, either in the form of another person, idea or setting in the wild? And has it impacted your thinking?
I'm touched by the idea that when we do things that are useful and helpful - collecting these shards of spirituality - that we may be helping to bring about a healing. - Leonard Nimoy
As always, the thread is open to all ideas and tangents. Namaste

Best Birthday Present Ever!
I spent my birthday yesterday (Oct. 02, 2020) hiking in Yosemite National Park's high country. The air was clean up above 8000 feet and I enjoyed my exposure to nature's healing powers. The air quality here has been an issue this week due to all the fires in CA. This park is huge and not all parts have the same air quality at any given time. I've only had to cancel hiking activities due to bad air quality one day during this week long stay. I did hike in "dangerous for sensitive groups" air a few times. I could feel it in the eyes and throat during the hikes also my lungs hurt a bit the next day for sure.
I join many of my fellow New York natives in wishing only the worst possible outcome for the Rump and all his cronies. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of fucking bastards!
Congratulations jbob
What a great way to celebrate! Nature has also provided me with several peak experiences over the years, changing the way of perception.

Good morning...
Healing is sure an appropriate topic for our time.

I wonder about the ancients and their message to us in their structures and circles. Here's one of my favorites that I've visited...The 5000+ yo Ring of Brodgar
It sure felt powerful...perhaps even healing.
Well thanks for filling in Q, keep working on those solutions and help us all heal.

In this present era of devised separation
It is taking a focused willingness to be open,
to overcome the imposed boundaries.
Healing energy shared is a powerful
antidote to isolation.
Best wishes!

Thankfully for many, I believe it is happening.
For those less fortunate I hope it generates the power to heal.
Good morning QMS. Great picture of great art, says so
much without words. Great topic as well. In addition to healing ourselves and our environment, we need to heal the divisions among us, to heal our culture. I guess a start on that might be to throw fewer stones though there is still an instinctive mental/cultural push to insist on some sort of reciprocity, if only of the "if you stop shooting at me I will cease returning fire"variant. It will be a difficult process when we are also being subtly trained be be uber touchy about everything - "don't criticize the maskless, that destroys comity" to which it is difficult not to answer "whose?". Nonetheless, we really gotta try.
be well and have a good one

True el
"It will be a difficult process when we are also being subtly trained be be uber touchy about everything" We have to practice being untouchy, probably harder than it sounds, but practice we must.
Good Morning QMS and fellow C99ers
Healing. A good subject. Feel like the last few weeks have been particularly difficult so this theme resonates. Thanks for pitching in this morning.

great pic and tune QMS
GREAT photo QMS, I love it. Reminds me of some stitches I got. Oops. If we could just piece the earth back together. The exploiters and extractors seem to be winning the battle against the natural environment.
Great tune, Carlos and John Lee was an awesome match!
Nature is where its at man. Nature don't tell no lies.
Only people do. Then more healing is needed.
Thanks for some healing.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

You are so right
Know not how we could survive without natural ways
extractors be damned
exploiters only achieve destruction
time to reclaim our biome
and heal the damage
Be cool.

There is so much
healing that needs to be done that it is hard to know where to start. On the other hand, if there is a critical mass of people doing this work, it doesn't matter where each individual starts, we will connect along the way.
I watched a film called A New Story For Humanity https://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/a-new-story-for-humanity-2016/?trai...
It was nice to see a group of fierce advocates for healing the earth, healing ourselves, healing our communities, healing our economic systems and governmental systems so that they work for us.
I thought it was a thought provoking film. I would be interested to know what others think about it.
Thanks so much for the OT QMS, it's a topic that should be revisited often.
Starting from scratch
We all have to start somewhere. Your idea of the gathering is intriguing. Critical mass.
Wanted to get this out there.
Mathew Manning (UK) – modern day healer
Mathew was tested by some of the world's leading scientists (at the time ~ late 70's) snip
it was discovered that Manning was producing a brain wave pattern not reported previously in anyone else; further tests showed that it was originating from a part of the brain which we all posses but what was believed at that time to have been dormant or inactive.
It was the oldest, most primitive part of the brain, leading the researchers to conclude that Mathew's special gifts were something which we all at sometime used, but with the advent of technology, were lost. As we approach (2012) it is apparent that a world wide shift in consciousness is happening, perhaps during this time and beyond many more will have these dormant centers activated leading to incredible discoveries to the true powers of the mind.

Thanks again for standing in
That article on Manning was interesting. I don't know what they mean about different brain waves but I do know that new research in the neurosciences indicates that the human brain has more capabilities than we previously thought. It's all pretty fascinating.
Yup, got it
I'm up next week.
I will surely watch the film randntx.
When I finish watching I'll let you know what I thought. Thank you.
The film is a little bit on the long side
I watched the Octopus documentary that you highlighted last week with some of my family. They really enjoyed it and so did I. The photography was absolutely beautiful. It was really good for them to watch something like that since it is not at all their usual TV fare. I think it was refreshing for them and inspirational as well. It has made me determined to find similar films for them and put it on their 'to-watch' list. In fact they expressed interest in finding similar documentaries so they are totally on-board. Thanks for the recommendation, it was much appreciated by all.
I will do the same randtntx,
watch in parts starting tonight.
All the same to you.
Like love each of us have differing abilities to give & receive
healing, the capacity grows with time and energy spent practicing and becoming aware. I have had the fortune to know many different sorts of healers of land, animals, and a human's mind, body and soul. The wisest healers have taught me these lessons:
1) Each of us at times need healing and have the ability to provide healing. Self healing is an act of self-love.
2) Healing and medical care are not exactly the same.
Medical Care is a mastery of techniques and science to cure or manage conditions. Healing is providing what the person needs, no more no less and may include medical care. What is done may be different for the same problem at different times of the patients life, when needs change.
One can become so adept with the tools themselves it fools the masses into believing they have no ability to heal. Individuals in mass stop trying to increase their ability to know when to give and/or receive healing of the body, spirit and soul. Our culture has partitioned healing to different experts who are controlled credentialing bodies, governments, religions and University system. One step in self determination is to reclaim awareness of our innate ability to heal.
3) A healer must learn to heal oneself, either maintain a relationship with your own healer or learn to selfheal, otherwise risk burnout.
4) Healers do not judge if someone is deserving or can afford healing. They simply heal to the best of their ability. It is very draining to be a healer in our current economic model of human and veterinary medicine.
5) Some people and situations just keep taking, never stabilize, or keep repeating a cycle requiring initiation of new treatments. If it is more than a healer can physically or emotionally handle it is okay to stop participating in the attempt of healing.
6) Forcing something to heal, or to rush healing just because one can may not be the right response in the big picture of the universe. Listen, observe and re-evaluate during the complete process, it is not about the healers ego.
7) Sometimes surgery or selective destruction is required for regeneration. But it is easy to get in the habit of just destroying without any plans for healing part of the process.
Healing is often many small actions and thoughts which are never acknowledged by others or ourselves. Healing is partially developing habits of caring - those actions, words and thoughts which ripple outward into the greater world and inward into one's inner world.
Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.
--When the opening appears release yourself.
Thank you
Thank you for the warm welcome QMS,
the focus being on healing through cooperation.
I also enjoyed the wonderful video of Hooker and Santana. It made me wonder whether healing could be as simple as playing the blues together - seems like a perfect vehicle for healing of the soul, and connection to the heart.
I hope these unnatural times help us all in some way to collectively make things better.
