Friday Night Photos - Possible Thunderstorm Edition

Hot temps, and clouds are beginning to build up....

Anyway, here's a daguerreotype I took in Paris in 1854, around the time the Army of the East marched off to the Crimea. Good times.

Given my age, I'm going to take a nap.

Won't you be surprised when you wake up! Believe it or not, you can record and print all colours, and you don't even need a darkroom.

For the past week I’ve observed with fascination the opening pods of the Swan Plant. Even the smallest sigh rearranges the almost weightless feathery part of the seed, which I discovered is called floss.

.

.

Have a good weekend all.

Yes, that is pollen dust on the red cactus flower. Not sure if it's mind altering, but I did see a bee flying out of it upside down so, one never knows:)

I have walked by this tree a thousand times, but really noticed it when the light shined on it from this angle.

of trying to use a better quality image repository. I gave up on Flickr, although I knew it would translate the image more clearly and satisfyingly. Like your image of the tree though, it's often good enough. All the interest you found in the tree in that light and perspective is clear. The very bright orange from that moment's light on one of the woody branches is very beautiful.

My first digital camera was a pocket fujifilm camera which I loved because of it's capacity for low lighting.

What an interesting item for her collection.

walking around with that in her mouth. People just laughed and looked at me for an answer. I just shrugged cuz who knows why she walks past some things and picks up others? And yes it was the way the wooded areas were highlighted by the sun. This tree is one of my favorites and hopefully some day I’ll be happy with how I photographed it.

I wanted to take another shot at the tree, but it’s been cut down. They have been busy cutting lots of them down this week for some reason. Guess I’ll have to be satisfied with this shot. This photo doesn’t really show how unique it was.

It’s the leaning tree of Leavetts. It doesn’t really stand out much except for in certain lighting. I’m heartbroken that my favorite tree has been removed. This one I looked at every day looking at ways to capture it.

from my front yard as it left one day... crummy shot, but in the air anyway.

I built the model when I was a kid, loved the plane, nothing like it.

Hint for those that don't know... The name of the plane is the same as the name of the 'pop/rock' band that was stuck on Gilligan's Island for an episode.

My weed wacker, one of those manual golf club style things that ya swing to and fro, is named "Devo rue Tempe" after Mark Mothersbaugh and mother earth's current climate. A Sharpie and some sand paper transformed it from True Temper, a steel trademark no mas.

Should I put a trigger warning on mother nature? Yes. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. Captured.

Paper wasp eating a horn worm, I think? Seen the other day whilst bee gazing in the dirt patch. I noticed a wasp in there hovering around the "gang of four" tomatoes that are crowd planted next to the squash. Suddenly it dove in and BAM! A two inch worm thingy fell to the ground and within one second that wasp was on the ground eating it alive. omg the horror

So of course I ran upstairs and grabbed the camera, of course! wtf All my photos are crap, old Kodak rarely auto-focuses on the thing I am aiming at and clicking blindly in the outdoor sun. Some days peanuts, some days shells.

Maybe it was a cut worm, not a horn worm? dunno

This is a different wasp that arrived after the other one was full I guess. I like guessing.

@janis b hi, and thanks. Is "soft focus" a camera setting? right on

American Goldfinch are the rascals shredding leaves in the sunflower patch downstairs. They stop by in tiny flocks and rip away leaf chunks like they're at a salad bar. I love it, and love the soft little sounds they make calling back and forth, kinda like pew, pew. lol
vegetariangoldfinch.jpg

https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Goldfinch/overview

Goldfinches are among the strictest vegetarians in the bird world, selecting an entirely vegetable diet and only inadvertently swallowing an occasional insect.

You inspired me to go searching for balance to the previous omnivorous post. Cheers.
