Just for Fun: Take the Political Compass test and post your results here.
I'm one of the many who hadn't heard about this site until Markos announced the purge. Clearly most people over here are further left and less authoritarian on average than the people at the GOS, but I thought it would be fun to see just where people are on the Political Compass test. I'm guessing most people here will be pretty close to where I'm at. (I took the test in December 2014, but I don't think the test has changed and I certainly haven't.)
Take the test here.
Here is where they put the 2016 candidates on the graph, but I question the accuracy of Bernie's placement. The candidates didn't actually take the test. The site owner(s) guessed how they would have answered. Since I listened to Bernie for years on Brunch with Bernie and our views almost always aligned, I think Bernie would be further left and more libertarian if he actually took the test.
Comments
My results surprised me some.
I am pretty far downwards left more than I thought myself to be.

Surprising.
To be honest, I thought I was more a moderate/FDR Dem/progressive hybrid than this... Overton Window? Or did I wake up one day and turn into a raging liberal libertarian?

Now I am laughing
Because I thought my score was radical left wing... Then I refreshed and saw everyone else's. Damn, I am almost a Dem in comparison. And if I feel more comfortable at c99 than GOS, I can't imagine what this test would show there.

Just a guess, but
I would hazard to say that at TOP, there would be a very high Authoritarian leaning in addition to being closer to purple/blue (the effect of privilege).

"Good parents" might not need to spank the kids every (I'm guessing ...) but bad ones probably have to do it a lot. I changed my vote after playing weird logic games in my head. I don't remember what i changed it from or to, but I changed it.

No wonder I've so often felt like I was bang my head on a wall, I'm up against the left wall!
Which makes no sense at all unless the chart was a two dimensional representation of a chart on a cylinder, in which case I'm up tight against the rightmost wall, head banging away. Yeah that's it, it's gotta be.

Hey there, Ken in my adopted home state! :)
Thanks for the diary, because I love taking this test. I take it at least once per year and I haven't taken it for awhile now, so without further ado:

I question where Senator Sanders' dot is, too. They're lying to us! But at least he's not in the top right corner, like all the assholes are.
I miss Colorado.
They say it's b/c of his foreign policy
Which isn't all that great, but is head and shoulders above everybody else. B/c everybody else is effing CRAZY.

Agreed on both counts.
Good to see you, btw.
I miss Colorado.
I agree on the foreign policy
But what we know about Sanders is that he is responsive to activism so we can fix his lingering authoritarian traces for him.

I missed your diary...
...(oops, I mean essay!) but I did see your profile picture. That's what gave me the idea to write this. lol
It turns out I wasn't the first
The comments in my thread showed that someone else had done it at one time as well. I think they said they later deleted it. I think it's good though, especially as more and more migrate away from TOP, to have it posted occasionally.
-9.75, -8.21
-10.00, -7.28
But I take issue with the wording of some of the questions. The idea that all cultures are either civilized or "savage" is especially salient. This test is not without biases.
Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.
The test isn't perfect...
...but it's the best one I know of.
Every time I take this
I want to rewrite the questions. For instance: what does "some people are naturally unlucky" mean? Are we talking cursed, or are we talking statistics? I think some people do get more than their share of bad luck statistically, and should not be punished for that. A libertarian might think some people are naturally unlucky because they are flawed in some manner and that this is not something they feel responsible for, a liberal would be more likely to say they should be cared for, but both might agree on the statistical angle.
I could go on, but I'll spare you
Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.
Yes, there a number of
questions that are poorly worded. Some are very confusing. There were at least two that I just had to guess at what they were asking. I do not mean confusing as in trying to guess what would be the "right" answer. They were confusing in how to come up with ANY answer.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.--Aristotle
If there is no struggle there is no progress.--Frederick Douglass
Cultural Relativism
is what that question was examining.
For example, one might say that Hillary is not at fault for taking massive campaign contributions because the whole system is corrupt.
Cultural relativism can be used to excuse away bad behavior.
Cultural relativism
Is really tricky.
Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.

So, basically, right in the middle of the C99ers.
And I also question the alignment of Sanders on their chart.
How do you insert the picture?

Take a screen shot...
...to save the graph to your hard drive. Then you click on the little photo icon in the comment toolbar to add the picture. At least that's how I did it. When I took the test in 2014 there was not an easier way to do it. Maybe there is now. Anyone else want to chime in?

Click OK and then preview to see if it works.
It did for me (some images on some sites might not, I don't know what is allowed here)
