Sunday Surprise: Thank you Adolphe Sax

Blues_for_You

On June 28, 1846, Adolphe Sax invented a new musical instrument vagualy resembling an oversized crumhorn made of brass. I, for one, thank him for it. PS - check out his wikipedia page, it's a hoot.

but my favourite to play is a C Melody that I rescued from a junk store. Made in the '20's in Indiana, it's a joy to play. These things were produced in the thousands, and thrown away in the thousands, and are now much sought after by tenor players. I read that a company has started to make them again.

roughing it out in my mind I decided to make a joke about a Saxotuba. then I discovered that there was one, a saxtuba, and a saxhorn and many more.

Thanks for the clip.

That sax was Clarence Clemons; famously spent his whole career with the e-street band and did some notable work there - here's that song you linked:

He also had a hit single, a duet with somebody completely different:

I had a friend who got stopped in Los Angeles for listening to Kenny G while driving. It turns out that a lot of people were falling asleep at the wheel doing that, so they banned it. Wink

LOL! Stealing that!

My dear wife used Kenny G CDs to put classrooms of pre-k kiddos to sleep (nearly instantly) at nap time. Now, of course, this was back when the state of Texas allowed pre-k kiddos to have nap time.

She woke them up with Atomic Dog. George Clinton beats Kenny G every time.
