I'm sure many of us are about at our limit of outrage at our entire governments, from the local, state and federal levels, but most especially form law enforcement organizations all across this country. It's like we're back in 1930's Germany or something.
If this all wasn't enough, here we have NY police shoving an older man to the ground. (Caution this is disturbing)

I've been copying tweets to Judge Clay Jenkins in Dallas. I've told him basically, I apologize for sending all this stuff to you, but when I face you in court, probably soon, at least you'll know part of the reason why.
I'm hoping he will see how my mental state is declining by all the outrageous acts of violence on our own citizens by roid raging White Supremacists. just happened in front of them. The cop from the back that shoved him with more force than the one that used his baton grabbed the other one when he went to kneel to see how he was. Then there’s the lady cop that moved people out sure sounded calm.

It's a nationwide police riot
The cops are the most violent -- and at the same time, the most cowardly -- gang I've ever seen, and I grew up working class in Miami during the reign of the cocaine cowboy. I had several run-ins with cops back then and consider myself extremely lucky to have survived them; no doubt my odds were much better because I have white skin, but they treated me like shit too and even then they were much more interested in slamming people and taking rights away rather than protecting anything besides institutionalized power and their own personal gains.
We are in desperate need of responsible competent leadership that will hold the police accountable for their crimes, remove their military weapons and their "special rights", and clean their houses to knock them back down to community safety patrols or abolish them altogether and start the fuck over with a new community safety structure. These people are supposed to protect our constitutional rights, not beat us, gas us, and kill us in the streets while they take our rights away and then "indefinitely detain" us. But we don't have any responsible competent leadership anywhere. The powerful politicians in both governing parties are all behind the cops.
Our idiot leadership class better pull its entire head out of its ass right now or things are going to get much worse. Our country has invaded other countries for this kind of shit, and lots of people both at home as well as around the world are nursing very legitimate grudges about America's assholery.

Thievery too
For years law enforcement has been stealing more from people through asset forfeiture than "regular" burglars do from people's homes, and of course the military has long been used for corporate profit purposes.

We are experiencing the treatment that the lower class, meaning 99% of us, always gets in a feudalistic society. We are culturally the descendents of the British empire. The purpose of the law and police is to protect the property of the upper class, period. The purpose of the military is to protect the economic interests of the corporations of the empire, period. We have devolved into Neofeudalism as a result of income inequality integrated over decades PRR (post Ronald Reagan). Almost all of the wealth has migrated from the people to the oligarchs through economic rent, which includes monopoly.
The problem now is that the establishment is going to sell us on the idea that all we need is a change of the rules and education and policing will be fixed. Ha! Nothing will change. It will look better for a short time, then back to normal. The establishment is scared stiff of real change and you have seen this vividly in recent history, especially in the Democrat party, especially since they are supposed to be the party on the Left. They have fought change with every weapon at their disposal, since the oligarchs are their real base. It's truly disgusting how they have forced every Progressive to bend the knee! Well, they have all the power, unless and until the voting public takes it away, and that won't be easy.
Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

MSNBC reports that guilty cops were suspended w/o pay.
The SOBs would not even let another cop try to check to see if their victim was OK. People need to look at videos of violent incidents and get guilty cops fired. This will be a start in cleaning out the worst of the violent cops.
I also want to see every cop required to take and pass college-level courses on constitutional law, counseling, and a psychology course that includes information about recognizing mental illnesses. Other courses could include a specific course on community policing. Any officer who does not successfully complete required courses within a specified time period should be terminated.
Teachers can be required to complete ongoing education courses so there is not inherent problem with requiring something like this for cops.

one caveat, how to re-train the ex-military types? They get-off on violence. Engrained since boot camp. Keeping the peace within communities is not part of basic training. Re-educating after the trauma of hostilities in war zones is a stretch. Fighting for lawless freedoms tends not to make one very compassionate. Hitherto and henceforth, rebellious citizens are dealt with as enemy combatants.

I totally agree that this has been a serious problem. Kicking in doors without a warrant in Iraq is not the best training for community policing.
Firefighters and teachers unions care about the community. Police unions are a problem in places like Minneapolis. I'm not sure how to address this, but it is a problem.
Maybe the cops who have a lot of complaints about violence should be transferred to police in wealthy gated communities where they cannot get away with that kind of thing. OK, I know, fat chance.
Qualifications for magistrates and coroners need to be increased in some places, too. There is too much rubber stamping of the "Oh, he just tripped" BS.
I understand that
Camden NJ completely revamped their police force, major budget cuts, community policing orientation, use of social workers and mental health professionals instead of police. Major drop in crime there since overhaul began in 2012.
It looks like Minneapolis is about to engineer a similar major change, according to tweets from the City Council prez.
I would add: it might also help to create a more community-oriented police force to require the majority or 3/4 of the new force be residents of the city they will work in. It might make a difference if the officer considers the person he is approaching could be a close neighbor. And the officer would have an inclination to act in ways that don't harm his community. Only about 5% of the Minneapolis Police force live in the city.

This is horrific
It appears that this man was returning a helmet to the police when they shoved him out of their way heavily, so hard he suffered a severe head injury. No one of them stopped to aid him but kept on marching to arrest one man! I have read that the man is in critical but stable condition in the hospital. However, with a head injury such as this, he could still die and probably will suffer permanent damage. The injured man was a well known activist in Buffalo working with a coalition on housing. There is no excuse for what they did to him. He was one of the citizens that they supposedly swore "to serve and protect."
Since the suspension of the two officers directly involved in the assault on this citizen, fifty seven officers of the special task force unit have resigned their positions on that unit. Good riddance. Unfortunately, they are all still employed by the Buffalo police.
In other news, cops in Asheville, NC raided a medical station set up to provide protestors with medical treatment, water and other supplies. The cops completely destroyed that station even though the medics had permission to set it up. The local paper, The Citizen Times was there and posted video footage as well as a scathing article about the police. Asheville is one of the most liberal cities in NC. This will not sit well with the citizens there.

Just what makes people decide to destroy something like that? Is it mob mentality or is it who they have been inside all along? This is like border patrol destroying the water left in the desert for people who have come over the border? They at least should be charged with attempted murder, but instead the ones who get charged are the people who leave it there.
Cops seem to be digging themselves a huge karmic debt that will one day come due. A cop here got killed during a domestic violence call and the turnout for him this week was something to behold. He’s lying in state just 2 blocks from my house and the mortuary is surrounded by flags. His body went for a ride all over town yesterday and people lined the streets. I stayed home. I’ve dealt with cops here too long to get worked up over this.

Cops are legalized gang members. This is why they need to be defunded, disarmed, and replaced with a different kind of community policing based upon respect for the citizens.
I think these protests are showing the "good" citizens just how ugly policing is in this country. That is why I included the videos from the Asheville Citizen Times. They also published an article that was very harsh on the police for what they did. That means that police violence and destruction was in the mainstream media.

Defunding police departments?
Absurd! -- so says Chris Cuomo of CNN, brother of the NY gov Andrew.
But defunding, or major police reform, is where the national conversation seems to have landed, in refreshing contrast to the usual calls for feel-good solutions like more training or sensitivity training etc that have obviously produced no improvement.
Minneapolis seems to be moving towards truly major police reform. In NYC, it will be tougher, but it's encouraging that a number of former Mayor DeBlasio aides are calling him out for his weakness and dishonesty in addressing police brutality. Some there are calling for his resignation.
At the national level, Dem Rep Jeffries is submitting legislation to ban police chokeholds and to end the Pentagon surplus military equipment program (bill endorsed by Biden) which has led to the over militarization of police depts across the land. Important steps but just a part of the needed complete overhaul.
Things right now seem to be moving fairly swiftly and the overall national comfortable mindset of semi-indifference by the white community or the usual fallback of "just a few bad cops" seems no longer to be viable as the evidence of massive widespread police brutality is there for all to see on video.
Here are a few things I find wrong with policing in America
At the top of my list is the warrior cop culture. The external trapping of the warrior cop are the militarization of police departments including equipment of war such MRAPs and the dressing of cop as if they are going into battle. But worse is the culture of the warrior cop, much of which is being promoted by police unions. This culture creates a mindset within the cop that every civilian is a potential threat to his personal safety. And his number one job is to return home safely each day.
That mindset takes the job of policing out of the serve and protect mode or even ensuring public safety because the very public they are supposed to serve and protect are seen as the enemy.
The second thing is most cops do not live in the communities that they serve. In Minneapolis, only 8% even live within the city itself. This means that the cops have zero vested interest in the members of the community that they were hired to serve.
The third thing is that I am beginning to think many of these cops are on steroids because of the way they tend to react to stress and the fact that so many of them are very beefed up. Cops have one of the highest rates of domestic abuse among professions with estimates of it being two to four times that of the general population. That would mean that people being hired as cops are either using steroids or have defective personalities for a job that they are required to interact wit the public on a daily basis.
