Hillary dissing Wisconsin
Submitted by widem on Tue, 03/29/2016 - 6:03pm
Full disclosure: Hillary supporter posting. Just heard that Hillary had her last visit to Wisconsin today and is now headed to New York to begin campaigning there. Geez New York doesn't vote until April 19th. She should be here campaigning.
I was called today by two polls and one call from the Cruz campaign. I live in one of the reddest counties in Wisconsin. Even before Hillary abandoned Wisconsin I planned on crossing over in our primary and voting for Kasich. The Cruz operative was not happy with me. So I don't feel bad not voting for Hillary since she is bugging out.

welcome Hillary supporter; few questions
just how do you feel about Hill 'dissing' Wisconsin as you put it? Has she moved on for good, do you know or is this just for the day? Has she closed down shop?
Interested in why you are crossing over? what makes you concerned about Cruz?
what made you think of posting here? just curious...
Anyway, since you have come here, would enjoy a nice chat with you.

That she was returning to New York and no plans for her or Bill to return.
I posted here just because I thought it was diary worthy.
I can't stand Trump or Cruz. One is an idiot and the other is just outright evil.
Crossing over cause I would love to see the republican convention end up in a really huge mess with multiple ballots.

Glad you are still here widem
Glad you are still here widem. I thought you got a rough greeting the other day due to your Hillary support. Are you hearing much buzz on the ground in Wisky?
I've felt that way about her
for a long time.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
hello widem
Bernie supporter here. I'm glad you are here too. It takes all of us to make this work.

What I hear on the ground
I expect Bernie will win. On the republican side the state GOP has been against Trump since day one. It's mostly the Walker machine all in for Cruz which is based where I live (Waukesha County). It's one of the three WOW counties that surround Milwaukee on the west and North. The old guard moderate republicans like former governor Tommy Thompson are supporting Kasich.
The WOW counties will likely go Cruz. The GOP moderates in south central Wisconsin like Dane County (Madison) will likely go for Kasich. And the rest of the state is Trump territory. So you could have a three way split. Walker endorsed Cruz today. The largest newspaper the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel just endorsed Kasich. All of the right-wing AM radio talkers are for Cruz. I expect a three way even split.
For the Dems progressives will carry the day for Sanders. Clinton will get the minorities. It's another Michigan scenario playing out.

Thanks
It's always valuable to hear from people in-state. Sounds like GOP side will be close. I personally hope you are right about Bernie winning. I have friends in Madison who are all pro-Bernie so that was the extent of my understanding of things. Well that and a little i've read. Hillary has been ahead in the polls but not by a lot. Seems like another state where ground game will matter most.
Marquette U poll numbers will be released Weds AM.
Charles Franklin, who runs the poll, was on the radio this morning, and commented on the complexity of the situation, though he had "just received the data" and hadn't had a chance to even peruse it.
Part 1 of the story according to him is that Sanders is looking to score big wins over HRC in the rural areas in the northern half of the state, where he's apparently been running hard.
Part 2 is the Dane County (i.e., Madison) vs Milwaukee County face off. Madison is the heart of progressivedom in Middle West (In the 2000 GE, Nader won my voting precinct with a clear majority). Milwaukee County has twice the population, is heavily segregated, and due to HRC's usual demographic advantage with African Americans, presumed to be HRC country. (Of course, "heavily segregated" is a euphemism for the reality, which is that tens of thousands of African American Wisconsinites live in the ghettoes of Milwaukee, a circumstance I doubt I can possibly understand, but hey, I'd better not actually say that, cuz X-splaining and tone-deaf and lots of African Americans live in the suburbs so what kind of racist am I?) Thus, to a significant extent this primary is a showdown between the Two Towers of Wisconsin. The extra juicy complexity comes from the fact that there are some municipal elections in Milwaukee -- like, for Mayor -- which may drive extra turnout. Normally, Dane County has the highest turnout rates in the state. This was true even in 2008, which saw historic turnout from Milwaukee's African American population.
Bottom line: Nobody knows what the hell is going on here.

Great info. Thanks! Those
Great info. Thanks! Those sound like good spots to watch for on election day. I have found social media help some because I use it as an indicator of how active the Bernie base is. It was on fire on Michigan day. I had a good feeling on Saturday too. Hoping for much of the same next Tuesday. And not the Arizona mess that was buzzing last Tuesday. I'm really worried about the ID law there.
The ID law will definitely suppress turnout amongst
college students from out of state.

Cruz is absolutely worse than Trump...
Proof of that is Walker's endorsement. He's another slime ball destroying a blue state because the crappy Democrats don't have a 50 state strategy and are too busy protecting the top.

Cruz is the worst. Ever.
Worse than George Corley Wallace. Worse than Strom Thurmond. Worse than Reagan. As bad as Trump MAY be, if Cruz were elected, it could be the end of our republic as we know it. I will be 62 years old next month. I can tell you that Cruz is the scariest motherfucker to ever get this close to the presidency. If he gets the nomination, I will be sweating razor blades until the election, even if he is a 29 point underdog with 3 days to go go. Cruz is Senator Greg Stillson from Stephen King's "The Dead Zone". Book it.

I couldn't agree more.
To look into Cruz's eyes is to look into the abyss. He would make Bush look good, and Trump is WAY preferable.

I absolutely agree, Hillbilly.
Cruz is the scariest of all. He is the one who needs to be stopped.

I think Cruz will payoff Walkers campaign debt
He owed one million dollars when he ended his campaign. Walker has cranked up his right wing AM Milwaukee talk radio network to campaign for Cruz and 3 of his talkers ambushed Trump yesterday when he called into their shows.

Is Clinton worried about New York?
Seems like she might have given up on Wisconsin.
(Not surprised that Madison is heavily Sanders. We used to live there, and just had friends up (both Bernie supporters).)

Well, Bernie just announced that
She agreed to a debate in ny.
Have to totally agree with your plan...
regarding Kasich. While Trump is an idiot, Cruz is the really scary one to me. If the Republicans and non-affiliated would get behind him, I think Kasich would have a very good chance of being the R. candidate. While there are plenty of things to dislike about him, it would sure bring a huge sigh of relief not having Trump or Cruz in the running.

I agree
I think the Republican establishment, selfish and without empathy in their own right, hate both Trump and Cruz and feel a lot more comfortable with Kasich. If Trump wins a plurality but not a majority of delegates, the other delegates will get behind Kasich because of perceived "gravitas" or inoffensiveness or being the biggest suck up to the Kochs. If Cruz wins the nomination then that scenario becomes harder because Trump's delegates might not play ball.
Beware the bullshit factories.
I consider Kasich to be the WORST of them.

I hope Sanders is going to spend more time in
Milwaukee. He held a rally there a few days ago, before following up with another in Madison.
Looks like he's doing a southeast to northwest run today (Wednesday), with a Town Hall in Kenosha this morning at 8AM, then in Madison at noon, and then Onalaska at 4PM. I'd really like to see him in Milwaukee over the weekend, and maybe he will be. The only other appearances listed at berniesanders.com are in Pittsburgh and New York on Thursday.
