COVID-19, California edition: Gavin Newsom does something right

Has COVID-19 finally redirected Neoliberals, like our Guv'ner Newsom? Perhaps. Parenthetically, Fineswine, Pelosi and the Camel are beyond redemption. But here we go:

Guidance Relating to Non-Discrimination in Medical Treatment for Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

California Requires Equal Access To Health Care Services In addition to these protections under federal law, California law provides that every person is entitled to equal access to services provided in all business establishments and public agencies—including medical clinics and hospitals—without regard for the person’s sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, citizenship, primary language, or immigration status.

Furthermore, no person, on the basis of mental, developmental, Guidance Relating to Non-Discrimination in Medical Treatment for Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) March 30, 2020As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Departments of Health Care Services (DHCS), Public Health (CDPH), and Managed Health Care (DMHC) continue to closely monitor and assess appropriate next steps as well as release guidance to ensure the safety of Medi-Cal beneficiaries, health plan enrollees, medical providers, and California communities in general. The State of California understands that people with disabilities are concerned that medical providers might consider an individual’s disability status when determining which patients to treat if hospitals or other health care facilities experience a surge of patients needing life-saving care. This joint bulletin reminds health care providers and payers that rationing care based on a person’s disability status is impermissible and unlawful under both federal and state law. Additionally, the AMA Code of Medical Ethics offers foundational guidance for healthcare professionals and institutions responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The guidance provides direction for appropriate allocation of limited resources. intellectual, or physical disability or a perceived disability, may be unlawfully denied fu and equal access to state funded programs Additionally, California law specifically provides that individuals with developmental disabilities have the same legal rights an responsibilities guaranteed all other individuals by the United States Constitution and laws and the Constitution and laws of the State of California.”

Perhaps Gavin gets the message that we, including his persona, are all in this together. Perhaps Gavin fears descent of a mighty Trumpian withholding of aid (which would be unconscionable). What ever motivates Gavin besides money and power is beyond my ken.

Irresponsible and intentionally cruel statewide response, such as the one by Nevada's malign guv'ner / executioner: Guv'ner Sisolak, which bans healthcare providers from prescribing CQ, HCQ and possibly AZ.

Unconsciounable actions by authoritarian non-medical doctor limiting healthcare access to CQ, HCQ

LAS VEGAS — Nevada’s governor has signed an emergency order barring the use of anti-malaria drugs for someone who has the coronavirus.
Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak’s order Tuesday restricting chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine comes after President Donald Trump touted the medication as a treatment for the virus.
Trump last week falsely stated that the Food and Drug Administration had just approved the use of chloroquine to treat patients infected with coronavirus. After the FDA’s chief said the drug still needs to be tested for that use, Trump overstated the drug’s potential benefits in containing the virus.

Note, this quote is partially untrue. Trump never said "[CQ and HCQ] have been approved for COVID-19 treatment." What Trump said is that "CQ and HCQ have been approved", as in approved decades ago by FDA and millions of uses to be safe drugs. Trump did not indicate that these drugs were approved for COVID-19 use.

Glaxo or Gilead had a patent on CQ or HCQ.

Newsom has something of a real progressive bent to him, which has been nice to see. I voted for him for governor, and inevitably *when* he runs for president, even though he is something of a corporate tool, I probably would vote for him in such a situation.

I've been rather impressed with how he's handled things so far in the state, not just with COVID-19, but before that. He's been doing some things that a typical Clinton-esque neoliberal would never have done.

One thing I like about him is that he, like me, seems to strive to get actual things *done*, which is not what typical politicians do. I think he views that as success, which is a nice change of pace.

Are you now CEO of Alligators for Trump?! How DARE you defend that monster Trump against scurrilous out-of-context attacks?! Sheesh!!

Note, this quote is partially untrue. Trump never said "[CQ and HCQ] have been approved for COVID-19 treatment."

Fact checkers all over America are shaking their heads in disbelief that a noble creature of the swamp would undermine their Holy Mission From God to protect mankind from Donald J. Trump.

eugenics has raised its ugly head again, not only with 'climate change' capitalists, but with coronovirus pandemic panic as well.
