Deadly Serious: no holds barred !

          I thought advocating murder engendered some sort of risk of legal repercussions. Apparently this is no longer the case in the good old USofA. And if not, would it be okay for someone to stand in the town square and ask passersby to consider killing Trump? Why? Because that *&^%$#@! has directly, publicly advocated Social Murder ! How about a bit of "turn about is fair play"?

          Inquiring minds want demand to know an answer ! ! !

When will enough … be enough ? ! ?

Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord (i.e., Sobek). But when will we, the ant-people of 'Murika see some of these bastards swing--at the end of a rope--or piano wire if you prefer? I will believe in Justice, not "Just us", when people in high places pay the price which they "richly" deserve.

Hang them all and let Satan decide whom to keep.

Spain's Covid-19 confirmed infections were 19,980 and deaths were 1,002.
As of today its infections are 57,786 and deaths 4,365. Recoveries 7,105

US recoveries so far are only 1,864. So, wouldn't make much of the low number of deaths in the US at this point.

@Marie

The first confirmed US case was 10 days before Spain's and the # of confirmed cases in the US is higher, so the disease had an earlier start in the US, has more confirmed cases, but still has a significantly lower death rate than Spain. I think the US recovered numbers aren't being adequately reported for some reason. Perhaps the criteria are tougher here?

@edg
you're asking for, including some related to testing (e.g., testing criteria, testing protocols, the sensitivity/specificity of the tests themselves), some related to demographics, some related to environment, and some related to healthcare infrastructure. That whole flattening the curve thing is really important. The US has 7 times the population of Spain, but as of yesterday had only 30% more cases. On the other hand, New York State has only 40% of the population of Spain, so it has a much higher confirmed case rate (2 per 1000, vs 1.25 per 1000). And without more info on the age demographics of the two, who knows what's going on there? The three big factors correlated with high mortality seem to be: Advanced age, comorbidity (presence of other disease, especially respiratory infection), and availability of ventilators.

Watch for mortality rates in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Louisiana to rise as the virus overwhelms the hospitals, and especially if it manages to get into concentrated populations of the elderly. Also watch to see what happens when it burns itself through our rotten jails and prisons. Or maybe the lockdowns will prove effective, we'll get the spreading under control, and perhaps we'll manage to roll out some effective treatments, and our mortality rates will slip below 1%. Currently, they appear to rising towards 2%, far below Spain's 8%, though that's hard to gauge given the inevitable but unclear lag between confirmation of cases and the event of death -- and again, knowing little to nothing about the testing paradigms means it's nearly impossible to draw meaningful conclusions from the reported stats.

I read a horrifying story about Spanish authorities going into a nursing home that had apparently been abandoned by its staff -- corpses everywhere, while the still-living were lying unattended in their beds.

I was merely responding to her oft-repeated claim that the low reported US recovery rate is somehow meaningful.

As for death rate in the US, it hit 1.52% yesterday but dropped to 1.47% today. We also crossed the 100K confirmed mark today, which means that 1 million or so tests have been done based on the CDC's statement that 90% of tests are negative.

@edg
dunno which ones you checked, but i checked 2 sources, one shows 1.522% and the other 1.537%. either way, realize that the system under observation is changing even as we'e watching. the first 100K patients will all have been treated before our resources hit the wall.

as i noted, if we're lucky, the lockdown will make itself felt. if not, those mortality rates are going to get a lot worse. nothing for schlubs like you and me to do but hope for the best.

It updates thru the day, I don't know how. Latest d.r. bounced up to 1.56%. The Fox counter says its sources are WHO, CDC, ECDC, and NHC. As of 4:53 PM Pacific, 101,657 cases and 1,581 deaths.

I live less than 2 miles from a fiber optic system trunk.
I'll never get above 1.4 mb downloads with dsl. Not enough profit in serving so few. Many in my area can't even get that unless they pay through the pigs nose for satalite.

Heh. My wife sent that link to her vote-blue-no-matter-who millionaire brother across town. His reply, "You know, that site is listed as a 'fake news' site." I'm assuming Microsoft told him that. I'm also assuming he didn't even read it, even though he detests Trump (or so he claims).

By the way, I thought the article was spot on the money. As far as what action to take, you're right PriceRip. It's probably best not discussed here.

          I would respond: The "We Have Found The Real Victim" is grounded in Trump's pervasive self-characterization as a victim. But this might strain relationships too far. Pardon

          Trump is so very put upon and we are all at fault for making him feel so sad. Shall we join the pity party? Boredom … … Nea

@PriceRip

I agree that an appeal to his (trained attorney) logic should get him to check Trump's history of extreme persecution (snark) and examine the article in that light. But, no. Reasons: mostly severe TDS.

You are most preceptive to consider relationship strain, as this is a real problem. His family is the only relation within 1000 miles, so it's an issue.

We've spoken to him a few times recently regarding the COVID-19 outbreaks, and whenever we attempt to discus medical matters and the effects on people, the talk always gets turned to economic matters. I take it he has a lot to lose. Further, his law office is still open as far as I know. Probably not a great idea and, considering the courts are shut down, kind of puzzling to us.

In any event, since Microsoft's software has informed him that the site is "fake news," there is probably no way he'll consider anything coming from it as trustworthy, even if they mention the sun rising in the morning. I doubt he'd consider anything worth reading here at C99, also. He thinks a lot of Nancy Pelosi, however.... His mind seems pretty well caged in. From what I gather, there's an entire political party made up of people just like him.

for the virus. I'm guessing that we are going to see a huge increase in the numbers of people who are infected because of the DNC's boneheaded move to tell people that it was safe for them to vote during an epidemic. Who knew that it wasn't? Oh wait...

          must be foreign to their Weltanschauung. I would hope the DNC would be able to refrain from "stupid fraternity/sorority" group thinking but who am I kidding, they have no respect for critical thinking or moral compass for guidance.

          The entire DNC should be held accountable. Particularly, as there are solutions, but …
