Wu Flu brief note

Greetings once again. To all those who may become sufferers of the Curse of Wu Man Flu. Here is my contribution to the roll of unproven remedies.

Now, before any of us goes to the Sacred Shrine of the Great God Sobek (my personal favorite) or to the Holy Basil* of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, to seek forgiveness for ur sins and renew hope in a new life after this one, please briefly consider the following pseudo-scientific medical pronouncement. I find that I am afflicted with a terrible case of gallows humor here or whatever the viral equivalent might be. Thus, a distinct lack of seriosity (?) may be noted in my epistles. This also allows me to dust off my vocabulary, and to invent new words like seriosity.. I can do this knowing in full confidence that most of you may already be house-confined and can't get at me.

Two points so far:

*Basil is an important ingredient of pesto sauce. You already knew that but full disclosure needed.

2. Making up new words unintentionally is called neologism. Expect JoJo to uncork many such new verbal inventions (to be distinguished from his repertoire of outright lies) because neologisms are the involuntary byproduct of certain forms of dementia.

Getting back to the topic, which in fact has not been revealed:

Several remedies for Wu Flu are being discussed. One of the remedies is PEA, as discussed in the medical treatise published by Dr. Alligator, chief researcher at A.U. Medical School: estimable medical research here.

Before revealing the magic cures hoped for, just like in any decent infomercial, I must drag this out before the denouement. So, here is my Scientific Diagram. Please study this before criticizing my essay.

Got all that? If you don't, watch MedCram QWu Flu videos and the whole process is clearly explained. Episode 34 might be the one going through the pathophysiology in a very clear manner. Yes, the viral-cellular interactions are complicated. But the remedies discussed today have a scientific underpinning involving inhibition of reverse transcriptase (replicase) via zinc related mechanisms.

Zinc, in adequate intracellular amounts, inhibits or totally prevents intracellular viral replication. This is the only place viruses replicate. Outside of cells viruses are inert pieces of complex machinery. An analogy might be evaluation of the non-workings of Congress.

Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are anti-malarials which have been used for decades. They are off patent. Meaning Big Pharma can't make megabucks off either of them.

How chloroquine and its congener might work is by zinc-iontophoresis. Wow. What a nice word. And it is not neologistic. Iontophoteresis means the process of getting ions across a semi-permeable barrier, One such barrier is the cell membrane.

Both of these drugs enhance penetration of zinc into the cell. More zinc = less virus.

Both drugs have significant side effects. One particularly worrisome side effect is cardiopathy, damage to heart muscle. This may occur in absence of any predisposing heart disease. So use of either drug is definitely not to be undertaken lightly.

Other drugs are getting press these days. Amongst them are remdesivir, an antiviral. Here's another possibility: favipravir.

There will be a surfeit of anxious and / or at risk people to utilize the above named drugs in hopes of escaping the presumed ravages of Wu Flu.

Questions of the Day

1. Why are reported death rates of Wu Flu so discordant? South Korea 0.6%. Italy 7%

2. Why aren't we seeing much more public evaluation of the two gigantic in vivo tests of the effects, or lack thereof, from the Diamond Princess and the Grand Princess? I think it is because such analysis will prove this virus, although as bad as the usual influenza, is actually not worse.

Medical hypothesis: possible Achilles heel of Wu Flu/h2>

Whether or not the Wu Flu virus is a designer drug or a natural evolutionary event, the following idea has come to me. This is speculative because I have not read this idea anywhere.

The relative inability of Wu Flu to injure young patients may reveal latent weaknesses of the viral self-defense mechanisms. The foremost self-defense mechanism is mutation, rendering humoral and antibody responses ineffective. This has not occurred or at least has not been detected. There are two strains identified, S and L, with the S type being more prevalent but less virulent than L types.

With further experience with this virus, reasons for relative inability to seriously injure children may reveal the defense factors that most children seem to possess, allowing them to escape the ravages of the Wu Flu. Perhaps the reason lies in the fact that, usually--but not always, children's immune systems usually do not hyper-react. Immune systems of children rarely over-react causing autoimmune illnesses. MS, an auto-immune disorder, is rarely seen in children.

Thus, any measures which can reliably and safely suppress autoimmune hyperactivity should prove useful. We discussed PEA for instance. By being a zinc ionophore, PEA boosts the cellular defenses against all viruses. Other nutraceuticals WILL be identified. Dose-finding is essential. Dose-finding requires clinical trials. Clinical trials are run by research institutions such as medical centers. Big Pharma has massive research capability. Do not look for any support by Big Pharma to assist in searching for effective anti-viral nutraceuticals. No money in it. The FDA, which is often a pawn of Big Pharma, may get sufficiently emboldened and supported by the USG, to go after curative avenues such as nutraceuticals.

Pondering a suitable musical conclusion of this rambling note, what could be more fitting than
Ramblin' Man?

Easy Peasy. I like the diagram, it has enough green, pink, violet blue in it to pass as being politically incorrect to satisfy my mind.

Sigh. Thanks for your notes. I love your word-plays. If there were not the language barrier and humor deficiency syndrome over at my side of the pond ...

I dunno, someone has sent us nutritional supplements in tablet form with a bill to be paid by us. Gosh, after being angry for two hours not knowing who ordered that stuff, I brought it back to the post office and learned, I could do that just for one day and need to keep the Post Office' receipt. Who would do such a thing? Thank God, I refused to keep the content of the package ON TIME. My sister doesn't swallow tablets.

So, next time someone orders for us nutritional supplements it has to be in effervescent tablet form. Thank You very much.

Has there been the word WU-flue-hysterio-dementiositis created already? In German that word means "Blödmann's Krankheit".

What makes you more tired, politics or the corona? Let's have a beer together!

I drink corona beer, you drink St.Pauli Girl beer.
I don't like this site, but I was joking with our handyman/gardener/caretaker since days to stop drinking Corona Beer and dare not to bring some Elephant Beer into the house. Only acceptable beer is Pauli Girl Beer (me having been born near St. Pauli, Hamburg, Germany ... you may excuse my bias)

Ramble on between the beers. Smile

PS. In Italy graveyards run out of space. Trucks have to carry away the coffins. I get notes like that and they disappear to nowhere within seconds and I can't find the original links. Sorry. Just realize that the beer links are dynamic and can't be found. Who cares.
Let's drink scotch then. Wink

@mimi It is my favorite Deutscher beer. My current Amerikan favorites are, befittingly enough, Arrogant Bastard Ale whose motto is "You're not good enough for this beer".

Number two on the list is, what else:

in COVID-19 infections? In a number of reports I've read, the inflammation and complications created by this 'storm' is what ends up killing many patients. It also appears to have a genetic factor which may account for the different death rates we've seen.

I think we need to do full autopsies on all COVID-19 deaths. Unfortunately, it's hard to drain the swamp when we are up to our armpits in alligators. Smile

COVID-19: Do not forget the host in treating this disease

“Cytokines are inflammatory immunologic proteins that are there to fight off infections and ward off cancers,” said Cron, a University of Alabama at Birmingham professor of pediatrics and medicine. “But when they are out of control, they can make you very ill.”

A cytokine storm is the result of an immune system gone wild. The body’s own killer immune cells are often defective, resulting in increased production of inflammatory proteins that can lead to organ failure and death.

@CB Actually excess cytokines are but part of this story, a big part though. All them pesky interleukins, NGF, TNF-a, etc. are cytokines. They like to rip and roar when given the chance--just like adolescents left at home when the parents leave on vacation.

But don't forget those T cells. The T helpers and the T killers. The B cells are simply messengers and enablers.

Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.

Are you sure PEA is a zinc ionophore? Chloroquine I can see, not sure about PEA.

Also, I think I saw that someone tweeted about a drug company that doubled the price of chloroquine a month or so ago in response to the early news from Wuhan. I don't know how drug pricing in our multinational system works, but someone is making $$ on generics as well yes?

And a comment: what is your purpose, besides yanking someones chain, in continuing the "Wu flu" bull? In my opinion, it smacks of racism and it detracts from your message, so why do it?

And.. do you have a favorite gin and tonic recipe to share with the chloroquine? If I remember right gin and tonic was 1st used in India to make the antimalarial properties of chloroquine palatable.

@peachcreek My guess. The little information I read about PEA made me think so but that is a guess. Thank you for having me recheck facts--those pesky facts always have a habit of mucking grand theories--you know like Russiagate. The mechanism I think is unknown.
