Something I'd Been Meaning to Do for Some Time

Television viewing habits change as technology evolves. Long gone is the uncontested dominance of the three major networks (CBS, NBC, and ABC). The cable news networks are increasingly being replaced by podcasts and YouTube shows. Nowadays, many of us tend to believe our peers more than news fed from up top ala Soviet-style propaganda, although I liked watching Eric Sevaried, John Chancellor, and Howard K. Smith. They were real wordsmiths and had a lot of respect for language and how it is used to communicate ideas. One of the things I liked a great deal as a grad school student living in England was the fact that most people talked in complete sentences!

That said, it's still useful to watch the three cable news networks for political debates, analysis, and the like. If for whatever reason you don't have access to them, bookmark these websites. Some also include a few other news channels. Note that these are completely FREE!

1. livenewsnow.com

2. livenewswatch.com

3. livenewsmag.com

4. planetnews.com - only has CNN and MSNBC.

5. https://pluto.tv/ - this is something like Sling TV, Hulu, YouTube TV, etc. It has a couple of hundred channels and is FREE. At least for now. Look for the yellow circle at the lower right side of your pc screen. That's how you see the channel listings for movies, news, sports, etc.

When on travel, I can access and watch these news channels on my cell phone.

I periodically watch the cable news networks mostly to keep an eye on how they are treating Bernie.

@JekyllnHyde There must be a Hazardous material warning code for CNN, MSNBC, etc. The unprepared have not been vaccinated with a sufficient dose of enlightenment to be aware of the poison they are being fed.

... and follow other political doings. It's possible that I don't have as cynical an approach to life as you do. I've tried to list websites that I found and are for free. Perhaps some folks don't know about it. You can afford to make smart-alecky comments because it doesn't cost you anything.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but isn't being a critic the easiest goddamned thing in life to do?

@Fionnsboy

But I think Alligator Ed's comment was more along the lines of a product warning label.

Maybe MSM should be required to post them as over-reliance on them can be hazardous in any number of ways...

@JekyllnHyde
tonight and listened a little bit into MSNBC, CNN and FOX. Have to tell you, after two minutes each, I muted them. Can't listen to that.

The debate starts at 9pm EST, that would be 3am the 20th for me. They better talk about something spectacular. Sigh.

I'll have a look at those sites. I don't have cable, so they may come in handy for me.

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.

These days I am happy to find any access to an event where is no commentary at all. The monopoly news media are the many faces of Big Brother, to me. It's been that way for a long time.
