Three pics of my kids out in the snow. Big deal for us. Not great clarity on the photos though.

It melted by noon. When I checked on them they looked fine. I don't know if it even got below freezing.

Thanks for asking and thank you always for your photos. I seldom comment, but always enjoy them!!

The gorilla is a seven year old male named Monroe and he was beating on his chest when I took that shot. The first of the two birds is a female Fairy-bluebird, found in Malaysia and the Philippine islands. The second bird is a male Purple Honeycreeper from South America.

IMAGINE if you woke up the day after a US Presidential Election and headlines around the the world blared, "The Majority of Americans Refused to Vote in US Presidential Election! What Does this Mean?"
janis b's picture

After a late night of conversation food and wine, I walked my friend out and saw that image as she headed for her car. I asked her to please stop so I could get my camera. I'm glad I did.

@janis b . The quality of light and shadow, ordinary and strange, stirred up memories of photos I've seen that bring up similar emotions. One of the artists might be Sally Mann photographing her family (sort of like this https://www.vintag.es/2017/08/candy-cigarette-1989-by-sally-mann.html ), so I poked around and saw that she had a set of plant/nature photos that share some of the mysterious qualities of yours -- https://www.sallymann.com/new-gallery-2 -- and there might be other artists but right now I can't remember them. Anyway, as always these are wonderful and I hope you are putting together a portfolio for an exhibition someday, if you haven't already. (Also, since some of Mann's photos verge on the macabre, I might recommend caution when perusing her website.)

As always, thank you for sharing.

@laurel

They really resonate. Sally Mann’s work has interested me for decades. I am especially attracted to the sensuality and mysteriousness of her work, and the sensations they produce; as well as the photographic methods she uses. I think my days of exhibitions are over. I’m enjoying doing lighter work and sharing it here with pleasure. Thanks again.

Vegetation usually goes dormant in Arizona between November and February. Not this year. This photo was taken 10 days ago. These 18" tall wildflowers have sprung up from what was bare ground just before Christmas. Lots of rain and lots of warm days have made this the winter that wasn't.

@Bollox Ref

Alfred had a reputation as a learned and merciful man of a gracious and level-headed nature who encouraged education, proposing that primary education be conducted in Anglo-Saxon rather than Latin and improving the legal system and military structure and his people's quality of life. He was given the epithet "the Great" during and after the Reformation in the sixteenth century, and, alongside the Danish Cnut the Great, remains the only king of England to be given such a name.

because of his Scandinavian empire. Alfred is the only English king known as the 'Great'.

Canute's sons were useless.

Now, if Edmund II Ironside had won, the history of the world might be a little different.

Got to see this beauty a second time, with some evening light:

I just love those fluffy feet!
I got some video too, although it's pretty bad; there was another car approaching and she(?) decided three vehicles was too many and moved a couple poles further down, out of the focal range of my camera:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bewd4r6qgU]
In any case, I was woefully unprepared for her to take flight haha.

Cheers!

Thanks Daenerys for the video as well. The soundtrack of passing cars seemed to fit well with the owl's flight, even if the owl itself would have been silent.
