That Hot Mic moment

I mentioned yesterday that the post-debate Hot Mic moment was the whole point. Everything led up to that.
Bernie was unfairly attacked for two solid hours.
Then Liz approached him with that BS when he was unprepared and might have thought no one could hear.

I thought Liz was hoping/planning on Bernie saying something that sounded disrespectful.
Most people would have.
And if that happened, that would have reshaped the whole campaign.
It would have been used to "prove" Bernie hated women.

Jimmy Dore saw it in a similar way, but that Liz would try to get Bernie to deny he called her a liar, and thus contradict himself.
Suddenly Bernie would be "the liar" and Liz would have the "credibility" in this he-said/she-said.

Either way, this was by far the most underhanded move that Warren could make.
This was NOT politics as usual.
Leaking false stories is typical politics, but this ambush/Hot-Mic skulduggery is a new low.

What I haven't seen talked about was that Liz wasn't the only one involved here.
She was obviously working hand-in-glove with CNN.
And that is a new low as well.

cnn.PNG

It gets Orwellian-scary when the TV network + Moderators are conspiring with one of the candidates to destroy another candidate.
Only the fact that CNN is hopelessly incompetent did the conspiracy fail this time. Next time we might not be so lucky.
In some ways it seems like late Wiemar Republic. The corrupt ruling elite are willing to sacrifice democracy and freedom to avoid giving up some of their wealth.

It's only a matter of time until the truth comes out.
I'm betting it'll leak before the convention, and that'll make Bernie look really good.

What sort of trap will the MSM try next time?
If I was Bernie I would cut off CNN and MSDNC.
Trump is probably right, that the impeachment is timed to hurt Bernie. But that might backfire too, because Bernie can't be trapped/tricked by the MSM while he's in Congress. He can only look responsible and serious.

panic and fear

The Democratic Party might be about to nominate the first self-identified socialist for president in American history.

This is already sparking panic and anger among the Democratic Party establishment and their co-ideologues in the mainstream press. If Sanders' polls continue to rise — and especially if he starts to win — we're about to see an epic conniption fit. In fact, it's already started.
..
At any rate, this is surely only the start of an all-out assault on the Sanders campaign and the ideas he represents from centrist Democrats and their allies in the mainstream press. He threatens to gum up the revolving door that keeps Rahm Emanuel in expensive suits, and to render irrelevant deficit scaremongering shops like Third Way. Mainstream reporters pretend to have no ideological perspective, but as Noam Chomsky wrote long ago (and we see today), they actually respond with scandalized outrage to any leftist who proposes to overhaul the status quo. Sanders' proposed tax hikes also threaten wealthy media executives like CNN's Jeff Zucker, who have done very well from Trump' tax cuts for the rich — a fact that doesn't require a direct conspiracy to strongly influence coverage.

I have to agree with Saagar

Herheinous ruined so many things for women by constantly claiming that people who didn't want to vote for her because they were sexist and misogynists. Honest criticism of a woman who was a warmonger is not sexist. Criticizing a woman for pushing fracking all over the world is not sexist. Honest criticism of a woman who pushed the TPP is not sexist or misogynistic!

Now Warren has ruined the believe woman campaign with her attack on Bernie.,if someone has to stoop as low as Warren has done then they don't have the right to be believed. Especially with her history of lying to people.

I wonder what they have up their sleeves to be orchestrated and choreographed this time?

I see Warren, Biden and Klobuchar come on the second night so they have a full day to sort out their responses to Bernie, gettng the last word.

How an Anti-Sexist Candidate Got Smeared as Sexist BY MEAGAN DAY

It's very much worth a sustained read.

The article ends with references to the takes of white bourgeois feminists Moira Donegan and Julia Ioffe:

And now we have media figures implicitly comparing whatever Sanders said to Warren to sexual assault, and suggesting that skepticism of her account is tantamount to disbelieving a rape survivor — cowing people into silence about what very plainly transpired before all our eyes.

'Believe women' is being cheapened to score political points. That will backfire'
By Jessa Crispin in The Guardian

She brilliantly sums it all up re "so-called feminists":

There’s always been an element of “by any means necessary” in American politics, with tactics like George W Bush’s 2000 campaign telephoning primary voters in South Carolina to insinuate his opponent John McCain had an “illegitimate black child” being surprisingly common. But it’s frankly disgusting to see so-called feminists undercut the work of judicial activists all for a political win. Using “believe women” in a smear campaign can only work to support the big smirk and the eyeroll of the people we need most to sway.

for exactly this purpose.

The fact that innocent, sincere women responded to #BelieveWomen with their own real stories and concerns, investing real human energy in what I believe to be a psy-op that probably originated in some D.C. consultant's office--or in Langley--doesn't make it not a psy-op, any more than the Tea Party stops being a psy-op just because some people who had their homes stolen by the Wall St banks got mad at Obama for not prosecuting them and invested their real human energy in the Tea Party for real reasons.

Even Black Lives Matter had something similar happen to it. Initially, Black Lives Matter was ordinary people lying down in traffic to call attention to their loved ones being murdered (mostly by cops). Then suddenly Black Lives Matter was people interrupting every Democratic candidate for President to the left of Hillary Clinton--but no one else, including Clinton. It was those same people telling the media "We'll have talking points for you."

Even a real movement can have, essentially, a fake clone made of it and deployed in its place. And even those fake clones that are being puppeted by the establishment can appear real to people who have real concerns, who then invest their energy in the fake movement...the modern world is complicated.

While I have been distrustful of Warren ever since she didn't endorse Bernie in 2016, I never realized how craven she was/is/became until this latest bombshell move.

It seems pretty clear to me now, too, although I'm certain no expert, that there's going to be a real battle about what feminism is supposed to be about that's going to be really brutal. I realize that there's been successive waves of feminism that have developed in opposition to but also as an outgrowth of previous waves but this seems like it's gonna be a high noon type event.

I think they are more scared of Sanders' movement than they are of the man himself.
He has proven that you can fund a campaign, even a Presidential campaign, without big money donors. Those who continue to fund raise from big business and the wealthy are soliciting legalized bribes.
He's mentoring a new generation of activists, a few of which made it into office in the midterms, and more and more will follow.
What he's building looks suspiciously like a political party, but without trying to provide ballot access. Instead, they primary corporate Democrats. This allows them a chance to win in the general election instead of just running as spoilers. Another cycle or two and every corporate Democrat will have to look over their shoulder, afraid of a primary challenge from their left. A way to accomplish change within a two-party system that is too ingrained in law and custom to be challenged any other way.
The slide of American politics to the right could be slowed, even stopped. Perhaps even reversed?
The influence of big money in politics would be threatened.
Twenty-first century campaigns are less reliant on TV advertising, which means lower revenues for MSM.
The consultants and pundits who profit from business as usual would have their livelihoods threatened.
The possibility of real change terrifies them more than any simple tax increase or regulatory crack down.

@WoodsDweller seem to me to be the only viable way to get ballot access. Third parties are cut off at the knees and most of them are comfortable being either appendages of the Dem. party or perennial fringe parties. I used to resent Bernie for flying under the Dem. party. Not so much lately as I see the method in his madness. Since our so called 2 party electoral system is so corrupt and entrenched at this time it is the only way for any lefty candidate on any level to get on the ballot and elected.

I truly wish that people of good democratic spirit would see that allowing themselves to be divided/fractured into identity PC? groups is not going to work. We all have a common enemy and it's systemic and has nothing to do with partisan politics at this point in time. It's a divide and conquer that's working just fine. I'm sure the women in 'believe her' have legit points and intentions, but man o man why just focus politically on persona and gotcha's. Strategically it seems to be self defeating. Perhaps these women should look at politics on every level as a means to an end which tries to stack the deck and seed the ballots with candidates Democratic who could at the least infiltrate the entrenched grip of this fucked up oligarchy, or whatever this nasty global sickness is.

Is this another heart breaker or something better beginning?

@gjohnsit I think you are discounting her chances in NH, which is an Open primary, and she does well with Independents, Republicans and Libertarians, many of whom are likely to vote in the contested Dem primary rather than the no-contest Rep. one. Some polls have her as high as 6-7% and I believe they tend to understate her ability to garner votes, due to the open primary nature of this state.

Her second best state appears to be SC, where she has been polling as high as 4%, but I don't think this is an open primary, so it may be tougher to do well than in NH, where she's been spending most of her campaign time these days.

Furthermore, a contemporaneous article published in the New York Times about the 2018 meeting reported that both candidates had said neither had discouraged the other from running. Such discouragement would presumably have been the effect, intended or otherwise, of Sanders telling Warren that he believed a woman couldn’t beat Trump.

But the latter implied accusation, that Sanders thinks a woman can’t win a presidential contest at all, is not just implausible. It’s absurd.

Don't you think that if Bernie had told Warren that she couldn't win that day she would have come out of the meeting ticked off and would have said something then? I certainly do.

Hi All, so here's my theory on why Warren did it-- did she know it would backfire tremendously? One would think, although these elites always have trouble making critical thinking decisions about how (un)popular they are-- Not sure about other places, but on Warren's Facebook pages, people have been dropping her like a bad habit, and the negatives (and pro-Bernies) are winning 9 out of 10-- again, on HER pages! One would think a smart woman like her would know that if you're going to impugn someone's character vis a vis an accusation like Warren's (of being a liar, that is) one should pick someone like one of the Clintons, say, or Trump-- all of whom lie in their sleep, as the old South Boston saying goes. Bernie is known by BOTH parties as one of the, if not THE, most honest politicians out there. (And what it is about our media, that Trump can lie interminably; Liz has been caught many, many times-- but if Bernie lied??? The story of the year!

But here's the thing. In a debate that should have seen both 'progressives' (in other words, the real one, and the faux one) taking down Biden-- she didn't. Not only that-- she never mentioned M4A, and said that ACA should be strengthened-- which is the NeoLib solution to the poors wanting health care. WTF? And the media never mentioned this, in their frenzy to cast this as a he said she said-- which it wasn't: this was an unprovoked smear. Hmmmm!

While many have claimed Liz' tanking numbers drove her to desperation, I'm not buying that at all-- a phony like Liz (now fully revealed) doesn't give up her nice-nice mask for nothing; I figure some kind of deal was struck wherein Liz takes down Bernie, drops out, Biden gets in, then she's Biden's running mate. And here's the clincher: BIDEN AGREES TO MAKE IT ONLY ONE TERM (if he lives that long, which might be doubtful-- it seems he's losing it by the hour...) and then-ta-da! Our first woman president! As to whom may have brokered this deal-- it stinks of Clinton, no? And she's still hell-hath-no-fury toward Bernie (who worked his ass off for her...talk about gratitude!) as being in the top three (or so) of 10,000 reasons why (she thinks) she lost.

I mean, this was SUCH a COLOSSAL bonehead unforced error, such a bad move, such a 180 as to what her public persona is-- is she that dumb? I know she has a lot of Clinton people on her staff-- would love to hear other's thoughts. Did the Clinton people put her up to this, knowing it would fuck her over, not caring about that, just wanting to strike back at Bernie? It really fascinates me-- would love to hear YOUR thoughts on this!

In a debate that should have seen both 'progressives' (in other words, the real one, and the faux one) taking down Biden-- she didn't.

Apparently she has campaigned on redoing the bankruptcy bill, but she hasn't made a point of going after Biden for his role in creating the bankruptcy bill. Or for his Iraq war vote. His crime bill. And most importantly to me the patriot act that he wrote and democrats just made sure it wouldn't die.

And this:

ACA should be strengthened-

It's been a decade since it was passed and just what has the democrats done to strengthen it? Nada. In fact democrats voted with republicans to remove many aspects of it including the tax on medical devices that helped fund subsidies. Gosh now why would they have done that? The donors wanted them to.

While many have claimed Liz' tanking numbers drove her to desperation, I'm not buying that at all

I'm not either. Either Warren made a deal with Biden or most maybe she was helping democrats derail Bernie because of how much he is surging and they don't want to make it obvious when they screw him.

Great comment.

For a long time, I have been thinking that the Dem establishment will support Liz-ard as VP for Biden. If running her directly doesn't adequately split the Progressive movement, they will go this route.
If you haven't already listened to Michael Moore's Rumble podcast on her latest move, you should. We have overlooked her lies more than we should have. She has been counseled by the HRC throughout this campaign. It was HRC's Press Secretary who was on the post-debate coverage claiming that the meeting with Bernie was no "he-said/she-said" and that it was proven by 4 'independent sources' with direct knowledge (of a private meeting between the 2 of them).
Hey Bernie -- please don't meet with theses scum bags without witnesses in the future! They are definitely not your friends.
There were MSM reports that she was returning to DC regularly to meet with party insiders (you know, the Super Delegates) and assuring them of her support. There was also an article in the Boston Herald about her lying past.
For what it's worth, I'm especially tired of hearing about her Aunt Bea. Here is a person who applied to Harvard as an American Indian and consented to them describing her as their first person "of color" on the Law School faculty, talking as if she grew up in Mayberry and never ensconced herself among the power elite. When she says, "And my 2 brothers were Republican" she says it wide-eyed and innocently -- without acknowledging that she too was a Republican who voted for Reagan, Bush and Nixon. Those were not innocent moves, nor was her ascent to her perch at Harvard.
Yet she continues the Mayberry story and no one in the Press criticizes or satirizes it.
There are plenty of women like Liz in big business and universities -- who rode over the backs of feminists to get to their lofty perches and then align with the bosses to kneecap other women and certainly to exterminate those who don't follow the party line.
I agree with GulfGal that we can't discount the airdrop of HRC onto the second ballot. The DNC would much rather allow for the re-election of Donald Trump (with whom their class interests are aligned) than to allow Bernie to be nominated.
