Democrats screw labor unions yet again

We are only weeks away from the presidential primaries, and the left wing of the party has never been so active, so you might think the Democratic Party leadership would take this moment to throw a bone to the critical labor union membership.
Well, think again!

Among other benefits, a new bill would abolish right-to-work laws that cripple union organizing, create penalties for employers that punish workers for organizing, and set out rules to eliminate delays in negotiating union contracts.

The bill, the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO), was introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., and has 215 co-sponsors.

Hey that sounds great and long-overdue.
According to a recent Gallup poll, 64% of Americans support organized labor, a near fifty year high.
And it's cost-free for the Dems, because the Republicans in the Senate will never pass it.
So this should be a no-brainer even for corporate Dems, right?
Obviously you don't think like a corporate Dem.

Under pressure from moderate Democrats in key swing districts, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to bring the White House-negotiated United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to the floor before the end of the year. Moderate Democrats believe they can more easily win re-election with a bipartisan accomplishment under their belts. But passing it would hand President Trump a key political victory in the midst of impeachment proceedings, potentially undermining the entire Democratic ticket in 2020.

There’s also the labor question itself. Trump has sold the U.S.M.C.A. as a worker-friendly revision to the North American Free Trade Agreement. But union leaders and their Democratic allies say it needs stronger enforcement for labor rights and environmental protection. Rushing it now may undermine both. It’s also not clear that this would actually help moderate Democrats. Passing a bill only validates Trump’s oft-made claim that he’s an expert deal-maker, and as the presidential election nears, bolstering the president means you’re boosting his party.

You've got it right.
The Dem leadership would rather throw labor unions under the bus in order to pass a business-friendly FTA that Trump negotiated.
I'm gonna give some money to whoever is running against Pelosi now.

You know so they can keep republicans from doing more damage to us. When will the centrists wake up and see how it is both parties that keep us down?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg They benefit if either party is in power. They may pout about their pet causes not being promoted, but until recently if you were a well off dem, those republican tax cuts felt pretty good. Under Trump, restricting the SALT deductions may hurt, but I guess we'll see what happens....maybe the 3rd act for HER.

Hey, don't you question my character... I'm a Catholic and we NEVER hate anyone.... except people who expose us when we attack children and try to block gay rights.

She's as bad any any Trumpy evangelical.

She's another example of what religion does to one's brain AND how handy a shield it is when you don't want to face any truths.

They are both corrupt. They care little with regards to the peons that they represent. All that matters is that they stay in their golden towers while throwing an occasional crumb to those that they are supposed to be working for.

The closer union members are to the average American the better. Unions should definitely be involved in working conditions, safety, training and wages. It's the benefits, health care, pension and other perks that separate them from us. If you have good union negotiated health care why should you vote for medicare for all? Your taxes will just go up and you get nothing for it. Same for family leave, maternity, vacation, pension and other benefits. It's why there were Reagan democrats. A big part of Trumps base is non college higher wage white men.

I would rather unions be for everyone instead of everyone for unions. Whatever protections unions gained that have spilled over to the rest us in the 30's have long been wrecked by both republicans and democrats. The protected exceptions in the tax code, in government, in commerce and in income are killing us. We may be poor, but in the higher realms of commerce and investment there is enough wealth in this country to ensure health, nutrition and education benefits for all. The more on the side of the 99% the better.

I also think Buttar has a chance of winning. Wouldn't that be a kick in the rear for the corporatists!
