Left Twitter Responds With Viral #TooFarLeft Hashtag After Obama Counsels Democrats to Tamp Down Progressive Ambitions
"I launched the #TooFarLeft tag," declared Peter Daou, "because I've had it with Republicans, media elites, and corporate Dems enabling fascists while denigrating those who seek economic and social justice as 'too far left.' I'd like to ONCE hear them complain America is too far right."
Good on you Daou!
The rest of the tweets are pretty good also.*yahoo*
According to the New York Times, which first reported on Obama's "too far left" advice:
While Mr. Obama did not single out any specific primary candidate or policy proposal, he cautioned that the universe of voters that could support a Democratic candidate—Democrats, independents and moderate Republicans—are not driven by the same views reflected on "certain left-leaning Twitter feeds" or "the activist wing of our party."
"Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision we also have to be rooted in reality," Mr. Obama said. "The average American doesn't think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it."

He misspoke, me thinks
Mr. Obama, best bro of bankers, evidently spoke of those on the left as "the activist wing of our party." Frankly, I don't see an "activist wing" of His party. The only activists of which I'm aware do not walk around with a "D" after their names. Certainly not after two terms of "D" Obama.

Everyone calls Trump a con man
But Obama was the biggest con man of all. He never even tried because he never ever cared. And now he has the unmitigated gall to lecture us, especially the youth of this country whose future he helped to destroy. I despise him.

It's our youth I worry about the most.
Due to their age at the time, some of our youngest citizens, Generation Z and those in the youngest ranks of Millennials, may not have been following as closely when Obama was in office and may not have noticed (or know of) the most egregious of his sins and/or lies. Gawd knows the present-day mass media isn't going to inform them of what he really did.
Not that our younger brothers and sisters don't see clearly. I think they see very clearly. However, they are being lied to like everyone else. I see the deflection of "Look! Trump!" used against them to great effect. Of course, it's being used against us all.
Many of us are of an age when we experienced the Obama administration day-to-day. It's up to us to tell the tale when the media attempts to put that halo on him and his administration. C99 is good at this and needs to keep the pressure on the liars and those attempting to place Obama on some high pedestal. He doesn't deserve idolization. The man sold us out and deserves scorn.
And that's saying something,
considering that we also had Bill Clinton.

The 2009 Inauguration
I watched a lot of the first inauguration with such joy, hope and relief. I so clearly remember Pete Seeger playing and singing all the verses of This Land Is Your Land.
I believed that a new era was coming because I did not follow clues that would have indicated part of that idea was a sham.
Then, as he consolidated more power in the Executive, I knew I had been more than a fool and he was an outstanding tool for oligarchs.
The inauguration itself was a big fat clue,
with Pete Seeger and Rev. Eugene Robinson relegated to the pre-game show, while Establishment toadies, some token celebrities, and homophobic ranter Rick Warren ran the main event.
I haven't forgotten that. Or forgiven it.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Obama's choice
BHO was extraordinarily naive about his ability to bridge the political divide with his lofty rhetoric and empty symbolic deeds.

Unfortunately --
revealed itself now and then when he was President. It no doubt means very little to him that African-American net worth vis-a-vis Euro-American net worth declined rather precipitously during his administration.
Barack Obama is a rather indirect beneficiary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, being the progeny of a world-traveling Kenyan governmental economist father and an anthropologist white mother. He didn't, and doesn't, have that visceral connection to the end of Jim Crow that most African-Americans had and have. Apparently this lack of connectionThe ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
The only way in which he benefited from it
is that without the Civil Rights movement, few in white America would even have considered voting for a Black man for President.

I mean specifically that Brock
Unclear -- did
DB it seems has traveled quite a distance politically. I'll settle for him renouncing his neo-fascist work for the GOP. Way too much to expect he should travel still further and fully embrace the progressive left wing.
Daou by contrast has had a shorter distance to travel ideologically. Good for him, he's seen the error of his ways, but he's not quite in DB's league as a major party shifter.
The problem with Brock is not that he doesn't
fully embrace the progressive left wing. The problem with Brock is that he is a Karl Rove-style operative who profits from his ability to subvert and poison political conversations between American citizens, hiring people, and probably also inventing "people," to misinform, sow discord and destroy reputations, with the ultimate result that political conversation in the public sphere is so toxic that people tend to abandon it en masse, while those who don't experience such pain that the American Psychological Association had to invent and publish guidelines for dealing with the election so as not to experience unbearable levels of stress.
Brock isn't responsible for the entirety of that, but he's a happy, wealthy cog in that infernal machine. I don't actually care whether or not he thinks Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan are swell, nor whether he thinks Bobby Kennedy and George McGovern are heroes, pathetic failures, or even Communist agents. He deserves contempt, not for his place on the right vs left political spectrum, but for his place on the populist vs authoritarian political spectrum--particularly since he often accomplishes his sordid aims through lies.

Likely true.
The average american thinks not of what their country can do for them or what they can do for their country.
Survival, alone, is a major goal for the many.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Most people don't SPEND a lot of time thinking about it
for the reasons you describe. But if you got a person for a few minutes by themselves and asked them whether they thought the whole American system needed to be torn down or not, I think a surprising number of them would say yes. And not just the far right either.

Much has already been torn-down
Since Reagan the GOP has sought little else but to diminish and eliminate the ability of government to act in the interest of the general citizenry.
And under Clinton through Obama and to the present day they have done so with the full-throated support of the Democratic Party.
It is long past time to start re-building the government from one "small enough to drown in a bathtub." The demolition is a fait accompli.
Perhaps I should be more clear about what
I'm talking about tearing down.
The American system you're talking about, which began to be demolished in the late 70's, is gone (like you say). Not that there aren't some remnants here and there to let you know the system once existed. But it could be argued that the only place that that America remains is in the memories and assumptions of its inhabitants. And the powerful have got a plan for that, to quote a phrase. The plan is well underway, too. That's one thing accomplished by the Trump vs Hillary contest. The battle to shift American perception and belief to the support of fascism took a giant leap forward in 2016. Several concepts have been culturally erased and replaced with (apparently unquestionable) new beliefs and customs.
I'm talking about tearing down the system we've been living in for the past forty years.

I absolutely agree with you!
And the current gimmicky sham system will be displaced as a more just system is constructed.
For instance, many of Senator Sanders proposals to rebuild do depend on uprooting large parts of the current system and re-allocating power away from the kleptocracy.
The "Average American" is mistaken.

Obama is a con
Obama did not really care about regular Americans past tricking them in to voting for him. Obama could have been the next Martin Luther King. Instead he decided to be a cross between JayZ and Deval Patrick. The rich rock star appealed more to his real inner self than actually taking the opportunity presented and be a savior to the people. He chose to be the savior to Wall St. instead of Main St. That was what he wanted to be. His legacy should be that he gave us Trump, and Libya. He should spend the rest of his life getting Libya back to where it was before he authorized its destruction. Or be banished to his $15 mil place on Martha's Vineyard. He said he would take personal offense if we didn't vote for his choice. Can't he go be offended somewhere?
