When you lie about the little things
A questioner used the words “mentally retarded” to describe Donald Trump and Kamala Harris laughed and said “well said.”
Asked about the incident later, Harris claimed to not have heard him.

How can we believe you on the bigger things?
"Did you hear him say mentally retarded?"
Kambama - "Well said. Well said." Laughed
Waves hands in the air...
"I heard him say the first stuff and that came later, but I didn't hear him say that."
Sure, Kambama. Sure. I suppose we are supposed to believe you will keep your campaign promises even though you didn't after you became attorney general for California.
Update with a longer video
When my staff played the video from my town hall yesterday, it was upsetting. I didn’t hear the words the man used in that moment, but if I had I would’ve stopped and corrected him. I’m sorry. That word and others like it aren’t acceptable. Ever. https://t.co/mNmo1hyNpW

I think she is lying.
Ethics has never been her strong point.

Will Warren cut the military budget?
Absolutely pathetic! She skirts the question of why she voted for trumps military budget, by stating how bad the military budget is and then talks about the problems w/ Raytheon, even though she’s taken their f’n money
I love the way she pivots to the secretary of defense being an ex Raytheon lobbyist. Gee..how long has there been a revolving door between lobbyists and cabinet posts? BTW..I want someone to ask Liz again why she voted to confirm Carson as head of HUD. She said that she did it because she was afraid Trump would appoint someone worse. Wrong answer. You keep voting no until he appoints someone qualified for the position.
BTW. Trump has a cabinet that has not been appointed by congress. The people who they voted for were fired or left and now there are only acting heads of the agencies. Have democrats said anything about that?
Kamala's political instincts are sharp.
She's not going to step in that if she could avoid it. The man was clearly from another culture and was unfamiliar with American political corectness. They were all gathered there to call Donald Trump names and criticize him. She tried to roll past the moment, while keeping the moment light and inclusive.
The man described Donald Trump as 'developmentally disabled' using the English words he knew. Trump's inappropriate behavior might easily spark that comparison. Kamala concurred, in the spirit of the man's intended meaning.
She clearly didn't want to talk about that awkward moment with a reporter trying to cast shade on her. For what purpose? To smear Kamala for not scolding the man, shaming him? She owes that bottom-feeding reporter nothing.
What is the right answer?
She is lying
She is saying that she didn't hear what he said, but according to the video she told him well said twice. Maybe there was more to what he said before what's shown on the video, but I don't think she is being honest about not hearing him.
@Pluto's Republic She's lying. She said she
Attempting to "explain this away" serves no purpose. It does not elevate my opinion of her, and it diminishes my opinion of you.
My opinion of you is decidedly positive, btw- please don't think I'm some troll or hater. I'm just a longtime reader who thinks you're wrong about this particular point.
Sociopathic is probably a more accurate term
Whatever was there originally was excised from birth with Thatcherlike precision. Nothing is left now but backwards speech and multifocal projection.
She's a liar, Pluto.
Plain and simple - it's right there.

The right answer is usually the truth.... which comes hard
for many politicians. She should have said that she was so quick to applaud the sentiment the man expressed against Trump that she didn't pay attention to the term he used until after she jumped in. of course, if that were true, then she should have corrected herself right there on the stage and used it as a teachable moment on using terms like 'mentally retarded'. OR she has no problem with using the term 'mentally retarded' to describe Trump.
Naw, I guess the truth would have been worse with Kamala Harris, which pretty much sums up most of my impressions of her.

That IS the right answer, Fishtroller.
I just couldn't summon it. The damage had been done already.
As you describe it, she should have solved the problem before the reporter could have pounced on it. She needed to think fast and use diplomacy.
All of you were right and got to the heart of the matter immediately.
Like she misheard the debate question about insurance, eh?

The bigger one --
was when she claimed to be for single-payer so she could get ahold of a portion of Bernie's donor list, only to walk back her position after the first debate.
And these people want to be President!
The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.

Did you see the Wendell Potter article I posted
about Kambama's health care plan? He tore her plan apart and said it's no good. Medicare Advantage owes billions in fines and someday congress might get around to collecting it.
Past due
Congress won't.
If you or I owed them a nickel, and they didn't get it damn promptly, we'd be peering out between the bars at a federal bed and breakfast. There's a reason I chose that image of Buster Keaton for my avatar. We are the 99%.

Here is the article from Wendell Potter
This is a really good read.

He should be on the news talking about the candidate's health care plans, but instead we get Rahm Emmanuel and every other person who wants to protect the status quo.

Fuck no. She will throw the mentally disabled (retarded used to be descriptive word until it was abused) under the bus to get some brownie points from an audience who wants to hear that shit. Also says something about the company she keeps. Or craves. Or what she will do for money.
