Friday Photography - Peace, Love, and Understanding

The moon, which I trust promises the fullness it shows.

My mom is progressing in her recovery, as is my hope it continues. I am comforted by the simple fact that I am here with her whatever life may bring. It reminds me how simply rewarding each moment can be when we find the strength to make the most of it.

Thanks for hosting janis

A slow river with subsurface meandering weeds caused a mesmerizing moment in time.

Then, something came creeping.

I'm sure my visions had nothing to do with one of my hobbies.

Thank you Pricknick, for the colour and movement of life in the weeds. "Weeds are only flowers in disguise". I don't know where I read that long ago, but it's true.

While I was watching them sway back and forth I too thought of an impressionist painting come to life.
Most of my time is spent on the River Raisin in southern MI. Unfortunately it is all but impossible to access in mid summer due to water levels at point of entry.
My kayak can be paddle, peddle or petro powered. 3 years in the design and construction and an excellent platform for photography. I plan on an excursion to Drummond Island in the next couple of weeks to see and photograph as much of the island from the lake as possible. If I can get one good picture per day I'll be thrilled.

That's not purple haze. It's Dark Purple. An absolutely wonderful auto-flower which I will be making feminized seeds from.
But yes, it will haze you.

Not all this "who are you, and how did you get in here?" nonsense.

@dystopian I don't know if the green lynx here was big enough to take on a bumblebee, but the honey bees that do their work in the rose garden would be no problem.

photo banner which (I think) exemplifies "Peace and Love" and, maybe, "Understanding." At least, I hope folks will agree.

(Gotta get the Html code from Flickr, right after I take Kaity out.)

In the meantime, very happy to hear that your Mom is coming along well in her recovery. It must have been fate, that, if she had to fall, you'd be here with her, to comfort her. Sending beau coup karma your way.

Will catch up with you Guys, again, if Flickr cooperates, and edit this comment.

Thanks for hosting this evening, Janis.

And, thanks to all the excellent C99 photographers for sharing their work for all to enjoy.

heh, thanks for the version of "peace, love and understanding." wednesday night, elvis costello finished the evening with a pretty rousing version of it and it has been an earworm ever since.

this fellow (i think it's a red spotted purple) dropped by chez shikspack tonight for a visit. it's the first one of these that we've had visit ms. shikspack's garden.

@joe shikspack Awesome butterfly JS! You are correct, Red-spotted Purple. Which is one of the Admiral group. The amount of blue really changes with light angle as it is iridescent. I think it is now considered conspecific with, and a morph of the White Admiral, intergrades are known.
One of my favorite butterflies.

Our sixth-grade teacher was married to an entomologist at U of Hawaii. She had everyone learn the names of the different orders of insects and put together an insect collection in a cigar box over the course of the year. We each had to pay 60 cents for a bunch of these special pins which were used to mount the specimens and their typed labels. Learned how to make a “killing jar” with absorbent padding and carbon tetrachloride. (Kids and hazardous substances? Probably couldn’t do that nowadays.)

was in the Royal Horse Guards, mid 19th C. Mainly stationed at Windsor, so he trotted past Victoria and Albert when required. Just missed the Crimean War, although the Household Cavalry weren't sent anyway. The 5th Dragoon Guards charged in such a helmet (minus the horse hair)... it's very heavy, so I don't know how they did it.

has been a lifelong motto or mantra for me.

Here are a couple... lots of baby birds of all sorts out nowadays, we are at about peak productivity for the breeding season with many birds having got two or three sets out by now. We were at some ponds with lots of Black-bellied Whistling-Duck. Which have exploded with records all across the NE U.S. this spring and summer. I like the old Tree-Duck name as they are often perched in trees.

It made me wonder whether the sun is more mother than wife, while the moon is as you wonder, more the mistress.

It also made me wonder again why the German language attributes femininity to the sun and masculinity to the moon?
