Bernie to skip Markos' party

Bernie has decided not to willingly walk into a trap.
Remember that Bernie was willing to do a town hall on Fox. That gives you an idea of just how biased the moderator is at Netroots.

bernie.PNG

Before confirming his attendance at this weekend’s Netroots Nation conference in Philadelphia, members of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) team raised concerns about one of the moderators who would be asking questions at a presidential candidate forum on Saturday, according to two sources who described the conversations to The Daily Beast.

The campaign’s questions centered on Markos Moulitsas, the founder and publisher of the progressive activist website Daily Kos, who has been publicly critical of the Independent from Vermont.

“We discussed the moderators after we announced,” Netroots spokesperson Mary Rickles said of conversations with his team. “There was a question about why we chose who we chose. I told them that both Markos and Cheryl have every intention of being unbiased moderators.”

Markos banned dozens of Bernie supporters in 2016, and has waged a media war against him since 2015.

“I think his moment is passing.”
- Markos Moulitsas.

Let's recall this gem from Markos.

"I don't see a lot of lasting energy for Bernie," Markos Moulitsas, the founder and publisher of Daily Kos, a popular liberal website, told the Globe. "It's different from last time when he was the alternative to an unfortunately flawed front-runner, and there were just two of them. Right now, the mantle of 'progressive' can be carried by any number of candidates and potential candidates," including fellow Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — three outspoken liberal leaders who have embraced Sanders' call for "Medicare for All" and a $15 minimum wage, among other policy proposals that helped establish the Vermont independent as a national figurehead for socialist ideas. As the 2020 race begins, Moulitsas told the Globe, "people have mostly moved on" from Sanders.

Markos is a hack that can't be trusted.

Update: The Washington Times take

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is the only top-tier Democratic presidential candidate attending the gathering of liberal activists at this year’s Netroots Nation convention, as most of the radical leftists in the race scramble to avoid an event notorious for brazen hecklers and demonstrators....
Still, the absence of Mr. Sanders and Mr. de Blasio raises questions about the candidates’ connections to the liberal base and how much sway the activists have in the Democratic Party.
...Of the two dozen candidates in the 2020 Democratic race, three will join Ms. Warren for the presidential forum Saturday: Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee. All three are near the bottom of polls and have little to lose from a dust-up at Netroots Nation.

The WashTimes almost get's it right.
I'll correct it for them: the absence of Mr. Sanders and Mr. de Blasio raises questions about the convention's connections to the progressive base and how much sway the activists have in the Democratic Party.

Is that anything like the anti-war environmentalist Trump?

And,
“Right now, the mantle of 'progressive' can be carried by any number of candidates and potential candidates," including fellow Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)”. HA HA HA! Booker and Harris progressive!

The common meaning of ‘progressive’ is sufficiently squishy that Warren might squeak in, but, as she has directly stated, she’s no socialist.

Interesting how the media, and Moulitsas, like to make every day opposite day.

Their takeaway is that this is bad for Bernie (thus proving Sanders' suspicion).
In fact Netroots that can't pull in leading candidates because of obvious bias hurts Netroots MUCH more than Bernie.

BTW, what do you think are the chances that Tulsi wasn't invited?

Every diary has that disclaimer in it underneath the title and one at the bottom. You don't have a choice whether it's included or not. Want to know the history of it? Of course you do.

A website kinda like NewsGuard checks every leftist website to see if what is written on it is true or false. This website guardian told kos that his site didn't pass the mustard because lots of things on it didn't pass the smell test. So kos made a deal with them to get their approval and lo and behold he put that on his site. Good thing too because I see flat out lies on it in almost every diary that has something to do with Russia Russia Russia Russia....

People can get away with saying that Russia changed people's votes. Not only hacked Vermont's energy grid, but also turned off the power.
A recent one was about Isakoff's new Breaking News!! Russia promoted the story about Seth Rich's death because he stole the DNC files. The amount of lies and half truths in it was staggering.

So there you have it. You can lie to people as long as you have that disclaimer and still be considered a trustworthy website.

How Markos tolerated the likes of me, who was politically an ecosocialist with the Green Party, for nine and a half years before issuing his March 2016 edict that anyone who participated in his blog was going to get behind Clinton, who stood for nothing but money and who would say anything to please anyone. Markos' ridiculous presumption was that "constructive criticism" of such a pointless human being or of her vacuous voter base was possible.

All I can say at this point is that I am grateful to live in a universe in which Clinton did not win. It is easy to imagine an alternate universe in which it was still forbidden to criticize the President's inaction on climate change, as indeed it was under Obama, because "omigod the Republicans are worse." With Trump we at least have a President which the liberals feel that it is permitted to despise.

Markos post-March 2016, on the other hand -- what comes to mind is "Order 66" in Star Wars Episode III.

After his hope and change became hopeless and no change people knew that people running for office would say anything just to win, but once in office the bets are off. But people have wised up and now they look at people's history instead of just taking their word for what they promise. We can look at Kambama's history of her tenure as attorney general. She ran against a progressive AG and promised to be more so than he was only to go back on her word once she won. Kissed up to the police. Mnunchin only had to donate to her campaign to get away with foreclosing on many Californians and so on.

Warren's history is plain to see. Other than yelling at the banks what has she accomplished?

MM keeps his hair cut real short and dresses appropriately in jacket and tie for his MSM appearances. No Berkeley '60s Hippie he. Good to go on corporate media. They like their lefties cleaned up and not really lefty and ready to toe the establishment line.

Also charming is his use of quaint, inoffensive terms like "sheesh". Signaling the censors everywhere in the MSM that they need never worry. He probably uses "golly" and "gee whiz" a lot too ...

That article ridiculously buries the lead, waiting until the last para to let us know that:

Sanders is far from the only top-tier candidate to miss the event. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg will not be able to make it and former Vice President Joe Biden, whose campaign headquarters are in Philadelphia, is not attending either.

So basically only candidates in the Clinton fundraising orbit are attending (plus wannabes).

From 2015, it was at a Netroots convention that Sanders' speech was sabotaged by people who rushed the stage, some connected to Black Lives Matter. At the time it appeared to me that it was a setup, seemingly coordinated with the "Bernie Bros" campaign using Marcotte and others as point people to redefine Sanders as simply an old white male. At about the same time there was another incident in Seattle where two black women (who had "joined" Black Lives Matter that day by setting up a competing website for another BLM website in Seattle) rushed onto the stage of a rally for Social Security where Sanders was speaking. These two harangued the crowd and prevented Sanders from speaking.

As much money as Moulitsas directs towards the DNC I would not doubt that he is in some way on the receiving end of a cash stream too.

@Bob In Portland it took me about 12 years or so to read stories that Kos was getting paid to do "consultant work". I joined TOP in 2005 and naive I was. I expect no different now give the irrationally attacks on Bernie by Kos.

Afer I saw how BLM confronted Hillary NH, I knew what happened in Seattle was a total setup. The Seattle disruption was close to a physical assault while Hillary had BLM protesters act like well trained puppies--oh BTW somehow Hillary's people knew they were coming. And later, not very known, there was a convention of black activist groups, and lo and behold one of the lead BLM vocies had a meeting with a democratic operative totally against everything they were saying about the democrats.

Was BLM legit? Of course. But their leadership was soon totally co-opted by the democratic party. From what I vaguely remember now without looking it up, but one of the NH BLM'ers that ate from Hillary's palms has done quite well in terms of grants, etc.

@Bob In Portland At the bottom of the GOS web page is a list of staff members, What used to be a group of a dozen or so is now in the twenties, maybe thirties, many the type of hires that cost money, not the almost volunteer status of true believers who worked as a diversion during retirement or with other income.

There's a lot of money going into Daily Kos and it's not from ad revenue which is bypassed with ad blocker.

The writing isn't very good. Front page mostly stirrers, probably paid by the click. I can go there and spend 25 minutes scrolling through ever article and not find anything worth reading, even if it's on an interesting subject they'll muck it up with 20 or 30 "Trump is a Nazi" type sentences.
