It's a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what's changed, is you.

Wow !! That’s some Alpine adventure !! n/t
Sounds like a great trip
Was it cool in the Alps? I hear there's a heat wave across the pond.
Anyway, hope you had a great vacation, and hope you all have a good day!

the Dolomiten are and were the favorite place
of my family since generations (starting with my grandpa taking the whole extended family to Campolongo ) each year since the 1930ies. It was a huge group always and they occupied the same little village for weeks.
It ended with wwII. later in the sixties the favorite place became Pontresina and Arosa. The last time I was in the Alps and Tirol was as a fifteen year old in the mid sixties. I couldn't ski too well (learned it only twice for three weeks) and today I would never ski again.
Ok, will have to read your other comments a little bit more. Have more fun. Oh well, my grandpa and his sons weren't ponytailed motorcycling hippies in their time, but I bet they had the same fun as you had.
So, I see you motorcycled with the elites, heh, heh ... I think if I were still in better shape I would use a bicycle through the Alps. My brother did this with his wife in the seventies. Otherwise, in case I would get totally nuts, I hike. Have a good day.

Hola Biker Tim.
Where are you re: the Alps? The ride I was on 20 years ago went from Munich, Germany to Salzburg, Austria. We just got back from the CO/Rocky Mt. run. Hubby took us to Nederland per your suggestion. Just heartbreakingly beautiful like the rest of the trip. Many thanks again. LOL. Some classic soul to mellow out everyone for the weekend. Take care and stay safe.

One day when you are safely back home
you will tell us the truth about your trip and the feelings you had about being there. And I mean the truth and not polite schmooze talk about how nice everything was.
I feel so bad, if I say something critically about the US, and you only say nice things about Europe.
Sigh, I am glad when you are back funkin live and in person.

I have had a blast
New tour this week. We have meander through the Alps including Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland and Italy. It all is beautiful. Four nights in Italy this week. I rode Stelvio, both weeks. The food has been fantastic. Weiner schnitzel, arrabiatta, real ragu, salami and cheese for breakfast, gelato, ice cream, espresso, ... No complaints.

Garmish is in Germany. It’s called Garmish-Partenkirchen.
Garmish for short. I tried Google Maps to see if there was a Garmish on the Austrian side of the border, but couldn’t find one. Hitler hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics there.

Beautiful summer or winter! I miss kaiserschmarn
(if that is how it’s spelled). We skied on the Zugspitz glacier many years ago and climbed up to look down into Austria.

There is Aldi in the Unites States (at least we had one close to
DC in Maryland) and they sell the Kaiserschmmarren baking farine there. You can also easily make one yourself.

Our Aldi seems to have mainly American type baking supplies,
but I might be able to find a Dr. Oetker mix online. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm not sure I would characterize
focusing on the pleasant aspects of a trip an absence of "truth" telling.

correct, but Americans are always very polite, and
many Germans don't trust that politeness sometimes. It is clear that NCTim had a real blast so far. Good for him all the way. I am happy he loved his trip so far. I am almost relieved, because I always fear that there is a lot they might not like.

So, random news... Made a really nice Obsidian Gardening Knife..
Just a fractured square of obsidian, but went through the encroaching blackberries like a hot knife through butter... And yes I can shave with it, but that's way too macho for my taste. The particular piece of Obsidian I used had some Iron in it, because the whole thing is shot through with red streaks that Give it an interesting look. Eventually I want to get this thing set into something. Interesting thing when using a "Primitive" knife is that you really become aware of how much of our current ergonomics is cultural. Because it took only about ten minutes until a flaked stone became quite familiar in the hand...
Just a random interesting thought.

Do hope
you haven't given up on the blacksmithing, DMW.
Was looking forward to your take on "Damascus Steel".
Have you been down to East Lake, Or. where there is a mountain of obsidian?

But now I really NEED to get to that wall. I'm just really glad I live in a state with so much of the stuff.
