DNC boss says candidates to be involved in debate lottery
Democratic candidates for president or their representatives will be involved when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) does a lottery to determine who stands on stage during the party’s initial two-day debate, DNC Chairman Tom Perez told The Hill in an exclusive interview.

Determined by independent poll or better yet, no debates until after New Hampshire and Iowa. Top five vote winners or fewer if less than five get 10%.

I was imagining Perez standing there saying,

Anyway, bizarre as this scheme is, I'm not sure I'm opposed, "assuming" the lottery is handled fairly, to the satisfaction of the participants. If we see a decent split between the top-polling 6 or 8 candidates (currently, sanders, biden, warren, harris, o'rourke, buttigieg are consistently > 1 or 2%) across the two dates, then they might accomplish what they claim they are trying to accomplish, which is to avoid having either of the two debates identified as the "real" one.
The larger problem, of course, is that these "debates" are fraudulent and childish mockeries of authentic political argument. The responses are canned and platitudinous, and if asked a question whose answer is not in the pre-written set, the candidates just choose the one that's closest, or possibly one that is peripherally related, but makes a point they especially want to make.
