There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

Hey it's funkin' Memorial Day weekend! May the twenty fourth be with you!

Finish your breakfast, summer is coming.

What are you up to this weekend?

Thing2 should be rolling in this evening. Her fiancée and his friends are doing the bachelor party thing.

We are expecting record heat. Six sigma says seven readings above average means the process is out of control. Plus, we have an upward trend. How much carbon fuel money does it take to cook a planet?

Have a great weekend! Don't do anything I would not do. The thread is OPEN.

I'm so happy memorial weekend is here! It means my hubby survived his 13 working-Saturday marathon. That spells the busy season in a greenhouse. He now gets back his two-day weekends, beginning with this Sunday Monday.

We're planting our flower pots and hope to enjoy the outdoors.

A trip to the brewery Saturday night to celebrate the end of his fete.

I'll be in Santa Fe Saturday meeting a friend at the farmers market, where we will also find some fine fare for lunch.

Lots of R&R scheduled this long weekend. Enjoy yours, too!

Have a fun holiday weekend, everyone! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann Memorial Day, a time remember what it is like to have a 3 2 day weekend. Even though I am retired, it still feels like the starting bell to the summer party season. I think a stop at the brew pub is in order. A favored food truck, Oink & Moo, will be there this evening. R&R you say?

day softball game and picnic across the bay because too damn tired and too much to do plus I caught a cold on the flight home, but we're home and the sun is out, so all is good. It is that transition of easing into the chores and the normal routine without overdoing it. Had to make a run up to wine country yesterday and had lunch on a winery's elevated patio overlooking a small valley - it was gorgeous, The hills and sky looked right out of a gallery with the illusion of being painted being betrayed only by the motion of soaring hawks and turkey vultures punctuated by the high speed acrobatics of swallows.

Came home to rain, but it's officially shorts weather and the yard and garden await. I hadn't thought of the S word until I saw your column, but yeah, I guess it is

@enhydra lutris Homeboy, living out your way now.

I had white tornado Tuesday and did more house cleaning than the cumulative previous couple of years. It felt good.

ferocious high pressure system is sitting unremittingly over the south east deflecting all the intense storms plaguing the mid west. We are experiencing weather that used to be typical of July right now.

Our nearly rainless days have the local weather casters so desperate for severe weather, that they report daily on the location and trajectory of storms with potential eye walls getting particular attention just as they would if the weather were local. Meanwhile, they are beginning to show us drought maps showing the increasing dryness around us.

It’s like the opposite of Narnia. Instead of always winter, it’s always summer. Always summer, but never Christmas. Ugh.
