Impeach!

Okay. Swell.

What's the "high crimes and misdemeanors"? Existing charges or evidence, by anyone with credibility, of an actual crime? Dirty old political crap as usual? Hillary? Hillary? Bill? FYI, Big Dog lied to a Grand Jury...

Haven't heard any of those yet. 2+ years of the Sainted Mueller turned up squat.

Nadler: Then: "don't release the Starr report". Now: "let's go boys and girls, I'll get us that fine NY Pizza to see us through our "deliberations". "I like pizza"....

I despise Trump. Yet, I think the Dems are just blowing their wad on something that will not help them in 2020.

This is our strategery?

...while in office.

Both times he bombed Syria, with whom we are not at war and who did not attack or threaten the United States.

In both cases, he bombed that sovereign nation in retaliation for the Syrian government's alleged chemical weapons attacks of particular towns in Syria. The United States was loudly warned by credible sources that these attacks were false flag attacks executed by terrorist groups inside Syria. Nor were they Sarin gas as feared.

President Trump refused to wait for the affected towns to be investigated and for the truth to be reported. Instead, he illegally ordered missile attacks against Syria without justification. A serious war crime.

In time, the areas were investigated and tested by multiple agencies. The results were that the canisters of chlorine were placed there by foreign fighters and not dropped from the air. There was no evidence that chlorine gas was ever released from the canisters. The videos were acted out and staged and released by the terrorists.

Our government is too corrupt and cowardly to charge this President with the very serious war crimes that he has committed. Yet political leaders cry out and fall to knees wailing for impeachment. Their infotainment fans at home do the same, reenacting their victimitude on a daily basis. And, meanwhile, the entire United States is too cowardly and deliberately uninformed to even discuss this serious impeachable crime that the world has witnessed. In what way does the United States not thoroughly deserve this mutant and immoral President to be their leader? In what way are the people and their leader not a perfect match?

Trump has committed impeachable offenses that democrats could use as a slam dunk case, but not anything regarding Russia Gate. Can you obstruct justice when the case was bogus from the beginning?

Anyone hear about that pie fight between Nancy and some people in her cabinet? They want to start impeachment proceedings against Trump, but once again Nancy is being the doorstop. Bush did many things that people wanted him impeached for too, but when Barry did them ...crickets. Again it's the hypocrisy.

We are coming up on 20 years of morally bankrupt and socially negligent behavior from the United States. We have deliberately ruined countless lives and corrupted the living environment both domestically and abroad. Not once did the American people rise up against this in numbers that matter. Where is their anti-war movement? Where is their labor movement? Where is their moral compass? I believe they suffer greatly on the inside from being muted; they are dying at record rates for all age groups. Suicide is at epidemic levels. But how does that stop the monster they have unleashed upon the world?

Enough time has passed.

What's happens now is karma, in my book. President Trump is karma. And even the sorry sight of duped Americans buying-in to the Russian Hoax — and continuing to cling to this delusion after it has been exposed for the malicious propaganda that it is. That, too, is pitch-perfect karma. I see nothing random about what has befallen us, or what lies ahead on our path. There is a debt to be paid, I'm afraid. There are outstanding reparations to me made for the destruction we have caused in the world. If this nation refuses to pay, the costs will fall on the people, and that pound of flesh will be cut. I hope the people realize what this means and seize their resources back from the corporations and put those profits to work making amends at home and abroad. Nature must rebalance itself, and in that process I believe we will find a worthwhile purpose for being.

Not once did the American people rise up against this in numbers that matter.

They rose up in hundreds of thousands against the Iraq War. And whether we like to think this or not, the 2008 election was, in most people's minds, a way of rising up against exactly those policies. That's what "hope and change" meant in the minds of the electorate.

The fact is that these risings accomplished nothing, not because there weren't enough participants, but because we're in a trap--and also because we were lied to, making the "rising" behind Obama a complete waste of time. Since Obama, everything has changed, and most movements for social justice, domestic and international, have died or become twisted parodies of their former selves.

I mean, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Assad has won the war. Russia is helping him mop up the remaining few thousand (or few hundred) terrorist rebels. What better time to use chemical weapons against the civilian population than when using them would undo everything he's accomplished? It makes perfect sense if you're a war-mongering dotard who thinks the American people are idiots.

It's their own participation in the c.orruption, their own lack of a moral compass, or the fear that the meanness in their own souls will be exposed that prevents congress from doing what is best for the country and the people.

Instead, Congress sits there, and pick off the first one among them who dares to open their mouth and express misgiving about the evil they are participating in. It's a chamber of Thought Police. They do what they must to survive. They believe what they will be paid to believe.

The reason we formed a government was NOT so they could "bring home the bacon" to their state in the form of defense contracts. But they go to DC and build their webs in congress and hang there like fat spiders waiting for a piece of the next defense contract to come their way, then scurry out and grab it.

That's what they do in the nation's capitol because war is where all the unallocated money is going in this society. That's where we are building our future. Atop wastelands of destruction and death.

The monied elites don't want us to see the stark outlines of that reality. So congress creates distractions by making laws that criminalize human nature, which sucks all the air out of the Left.

This is what happens to politicians in a government seeped in social. intellectual, and monetary graft like ours. When we vote, we participate in this corruption and confirm that we accept it.

We all pretend that the Democrat Party contains the Left, but Party leaders are paid to make room in order to suppress the Left. There never has been and never will be a Political Party for the Left in the United States. The left is categorized as riff-raff and political debris. Fodder for assassinations. We are banished to nibble on the leavings outside the official political system. The Duopoly of Slave-Owners and Abolitionists continue to determine the destiny of the second-tier people, occasionally switching sides to keep things fresh.

This is how it has always been.

If both sides can get straight with the laws they apply, then maybe I can get behind an impeachment for war crimes. But if people are going to flip-flop based on personal feelings or bias, forget it.

Um, how about the fact that on election day, Trump had a 58% disapproval rating (Hillary had a 60% disapproval rating)? How about the fact that there was rampant election fraud in the 2016 election? If there were such a perfect match between the people and the government, the fraud would have been unnecessary and the disapproval ratings nonexistent. The American Psychological Association had to invent a set of guidelines to help people deal with the stress and trauma of the election cycle. There is no perfect match.

Trump will have completely destroyed the US brand worldwide before he is through. The US population may be sleep walking but the rest of the world is awake. He will also have tanked the US and the global economies. Trade wars are bad news. The Chinese consumer market is now key to the success of US global corporations. It doesn't matter how a new smartphone does in the US, it's all about China. Countries trade because it benefits both. When FDR enacted trade barriers the US economy tanked right out of its depression recovery. The US economy will do the same. Trump is congratulating himself for an economic bubble that he had nothing to do with. Will he accept responsibility when the economy tanks? He should be impeached, if he isn't he will do so much damage that the US will never recover and no country in the world will want to do business with us.

That puts Empire out of business. We can close 1,000 military bases. Everyone's carbon footprint shrinks. It's a redo of the 1990s. This time we'll put everyone to work building a national infrastructure public space that works for a modern society. We can nationalize all energy utility companies and build a modern, secure national power grid for a post-fossil-fuel country. We can spend on education instead of war, and nationalize our natural resources to help fund it all. This will repair our reputation after our apologies and reparations are made.

At least, that's my narrative du jour.

took impeachment off the table almost as soon as she became speaker, much as she took it off the table in 2007. I hate to say it, but she's right: The Republican Senate would never convict. Besides, next year is an election year.

However, Democrats have made a lot of political hay and raised a lot of money just talking about impeachment, literally since Trump's Inauguration Day. So, they continue.

@HenryAWallace in early 1973 as senate hearings began, there weren't many senate Rs on board for the investigation, if any, and it's unlikely a majority of the public was thinking about and hoping for impeachment. It took steady, tough investigations and public disclosure of impeachable offenses before some rigid R attitudes were softened, and then the House impeachment hearings the next year and the revelations of the WH tapes turned the tide against Nixon. 18 months. A long process, but to their credit the Ds got started right away after the election.

We don't have 18 months this time, largely because timid souls Nancy and Chuck were reluctant to begin the process a year ago as they allowed themselves to be bogged down waiting for Mueller and Russiagate to deliver the goods. Not pushing back, doing nothing while R presidents run roughshod over the Constitution seems to be the favorite position for D leaders in this era of spineless leadership.

But it might not be too late still, and the risk of letting Trump get away with blatant obstruction is far too high, and sets an appalling precedent of no checks by Congress on an increasingly authoritarian, above-the-law president.

Pelosi and the other timid leaders need to finally step up and show leadership and an ounce of courage. But I wouldn't bet a lot of money on this.

@wokkamile

we can assume that what Republicans did then would apply now. Moreover, what they actually did then was send a couple of key people to Nixon and get him to resign by saying they had the Republican votes need for Democrats to impeach and convict, which may or may not have been a lie. Even if it were true that is very different from Republican Reps and Senators going on record with a vote to oust the man Republican voters managed to get elected President.

I don't believe that Pelosi or Schumer were timid or waiting for the Mueller Report. That is certainly not what Pelosi said when she took impeaching Trump off the table, nor, for that matter, what she has said more recently.

I don't believe that any Democrats in either House ever intended to do a thing about impeaching Trump other than talking about it, to keep the public inflamed against a Republican administration and to raise money.

Democratic politicians, most especially veterans like Pelosi and Schumer, aren't timid. They are complicit.

I think you and I agree on large issues, but not when we get down in the weeds at this level. And I am not a fan of debating the internal thoughts of politicians most of us have never met. So, I'm just going to leave it at you stated your opinion and now I've stated mine. You didn't convince me and I doubt I've convinced you. In any event, I'm just only going to agree to disagree and move on.

@HenryAWallace in the R party since the 70s, notably the purging of its moderate wing and its drift to being a far-right only party. And for the Ds, they have lost those who represented what might be called the bold leadership wing since then and the so-called leaders of today's vintage, the timid, tiptoeing triangulators, have shown more interest in ducking and cowering and maintaining their good standing with their corporate and institutional sponsors.

But I would argue it's most important, on principle, for the Ds to take a stand against this president's HC&Ms regardless of whether the odds are favorable for a conviction, now or a year from now, in the senate, and regardless of impeachment's potential political impact. It's always the right time to do what's right. And our democracy might be at stake, what's left of it.

There will always be a plausible excuse for these current crop of Ds not to act. Today it's worry about handing Trump another election issue, as if their 3 years of promoting a false conspiracy theory wasn't damage enough. Then, after he is re-elected, b/c we've nominated another awful centrist candidate, and he continues to trample on the Constitution, there will be worry about handing him an issue for the 2022 midterms, and so on.

I do believe it's mostly a failure of will by D leaders, a weakness which has become ingrained at the top of the party in the last 40 yrs. It's a minor miracle most of them choose to get out of bed in the morning, given the calculation of how many bad things could happen to them if they do.

(as to this discussion, it's just a friendly, sincere offering of my views, no attempt to get into a picky back-and-forth or to score debating points. You are entitled to my views, and that's fine. Others here are also welcome to them.)

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.

the Dims showed no support for him in fact with a little gerrymandering they got Marcy Kaptur elected and him gone from Congress. It shouldn't be overlooked that when he ran for Governor of Ohio if he got any support from the Party I missed seeing, or hearing about it but they get behind other Dims in State races. A real progressive gets no support from the Party mis-leaders.
But this isn't about Dennis Kucinich, its about concrete evidence of war crimes perpetrated by Bush/Cheney administration and from that came the death of hundreds of thousands deaths, countless wounded, people emotionally scarred for life, a Country turned to rubble overrun by terrorists (this includes the US) and a Red Cross estimate of four million refugees in the first two years alone.

Nothing to see here,Rep.Dennis Kucinich gets pushed out of Congress, GW Bush goes on TV to dance with Ellen, his terrible art gets shown on TV and cameras catch warm interactions between Bush, Obama and Michelle where GWB gets accolades for giving her a piece of candy at the funeral of the despicable war criminal John McCain.
In fact in that room were enough war criminals to keep the Hague busy for a long while and that is the real story, war criminals will not prosecute their fellow criminals, nor will those that didn't give the illegal immoral orders but without their enabling it all it doesn't happen.

The real problem is the fact that this Country is guilty of more death, destruction, torture, and invasions than the damn Nazis without a doubt. We can pick examples all over the world, picking out the few million casualties here and there.

I could go on but I'll spare others by bringing this to a close but the point I've been circling around is that I have zero hope we will ever bring to trial any leaders (and guilty enablers) to any Court in this land and it'll never happen in an International Court, the US just has too much power.

Lest anyone think I don't lump Obama in with the other war criminals they are very wrong and in a way I find him as reprehensible as fellow blood soaked friends Kissinger or Hillary, yet he is treated like a saint by many people.
Like others I get asked why I 'attack the Dims rather than Repugs', my response is the truth should not be called an attack, the difference between the two is paper thin but the Repugs will stab you in the front but the Dims will smile and with a arm around your shoulders stick the shiv in your back.

This is why I've voted for Jill Stein every time since 2012 because she was the only good choice available and the only Party worth supporting.
