Net Neutrality and Discourse

Watching the Primaries unfold, the candidacy of Senator Bernie Sanders unarguably benefits from new media's ability to subvert the narrative being pushed by the corporate news machine. Where would such a campaign be without The Young Turks, Thom Hartman, Daily Kos (sans Markos) and Social Media?

In coming years, be on the watch for further attempts to undermine Net Neutrality and stifle grassroots discourse and information sharing. This author is generally suspicious of regulator-foxes guarding their personal hen house, the current FCC rules are set up us as such.

Secretary Clinton's motives, despite her vows "to enforce strong net neutrality," should not be trusted for reasons that need not be explained.

Protecting The Commons is vital to democracy. Discourse must not be privatized.

However, private ownership of social media also presents challenges. Take GOS for example - no longer promoting open conversation.

So yes, thankfully we have some progressive outlets online, but they don't really reach the masses (yet). We all need to be vigilant to preserve what net neutrality we have!
