Did j'all get Markos' email tonight?

First - hey, y'all... I made the jump finally! (My brain has difficulty with learning new things these days)

Here's the money shot from my perspective:

March 2016 will be our biggest month ever, and March 16 is our biggest day ever, with more than 2.5 million unique visitors.

Huh, what, in particular, perhaps drove community members to the site the day AFTER the Ides of March banning start? Would it be to watch the train wreck in real time? Wild that he would fund raise off of his limiting democratic speech.

The whole letter:

The future of Daily Kos (please read)

2015 was a crazy, record-setting year for Daily Kos, and 2016 is already breaking last year's records. Take a look at how big and how fast we've grown:

Traffic has exploded. This time last year, I wrote about how the first three months of 2015 were our three biggest months ever. We broke that first quarter record halfway through this month.

March 2016 will be our biggest month ever, and March 16 is our biggest day ever, with more than 2.5 million unique visitors.

Daily Kos is the go-to place for progressives to get their news, giving us a deeper reach into the Democratic base than almost any other organization on the left—and that puts us in a powerful position ahead of the election.

We need to stop Trump. We need to elect a Democratic Senate so that we have the votes to confirm strong liberal judges to Supreme Court. If we have the resources to organize the millions of progressives who read Daily Kos every month and connect them with must-win campaigns for House and Senate, we could be what makes the difference between a Democratic majority and a Republican majority on Election Day.

Can you chip in $5 right now to help Daily Kos keep fighting?

We've spent years working toward this point. Our editorial team has added voices that bring new readers to the site every day. The activism team has greatly expanded to better mobilize those readers to action. And the tech team has built and launched an incredible new site that makes all of our lives and work easier.

We wouldn't have gotten this far without you, and we can't win in November without you. So, please, if you're able, chip in $5 right now to make that happen.

Thank you and keep fighting,
Markos Moulitsas
Founder and Publisher, Daily Kos

P.S. I like to put things in perspective when asking for a contribution. Our 2016 budget is about $6 million. We could fund operations for two-and-a-half years if every one of our readers this month had chipped in just $1. Obviously, not everyone chips in. So, please chip in $5 if you can.

Clinton never trailed Barack Obama by anything more than around 150 delegates at any point during the 2008 primaries. And that race wasn’t particularly close.

Well, that's because she was going to these states. She had already shot her wad, and the progressive, Democratic states were reluctant to support her.

Terrible analysis by Kos. It actually predicts a Hillary stall that changes the math from the National polling perspective... What will happen to Hillary when she starts to tank?

No surprises there. kos gets not a cent from me ever again, nor a signature on a petition--nada. I don't support a place that not only tolerates but encourages e-pogroms and online bullying. I unsubscribed from his mailing list last week.

I was a dkos lurker for a while, and within the last year or so started adding my comments to diaries that caught my attention. I always looked forward to it daily for the conversation that I could find there. Will have to say the last four months have been tough for me, yeah I know it's primary season blah blah blah, but, it was getting to be where I would get to the comment section of a pro Bernie diary and the fucking Shillary trolls couldn't wait to be the first commenters in. Totally pissed me off. And they know who they are Trix, David54, dhonig, that fucking crowd. Then the banhammer announcement like the primary was over. Now I read this SHIT he wrote in the Hill? What too fucking chickenshit to put it in his own blog. Never going back there fucking place has turned into home and Garden. We'll see tonight what's up with Bernies campaign, hope he takes all three " undemocratic " caucuses.

But people have been saying that he is selling our email addresses when we sign petitions.
I signed one and the whole week my spam box was full of political emails.
So I believe that is happening.
And no, I'm not donating to a website that calls any criticism of Hillary right wing talking points. Or possibly being banned because he and Hillary's supporters don't like how we phrase that she is a fucking warmonger.
I responded to a comment from one of her supporters that used the word warmonger in his comment and said that just because we don't like her foreign policies or that any criticism of her is calling her a warmonger.

And his article from the Hill today calling for Bernie to drop out was disgusting.
Fortunately he can't ban the people who replied to his article.
I use a different name on discuss and said that he certainly has changed from crashing the gates to now closing them after he made his money from selling out.
What happened to the Markos that said that there was no way that Hillary was ready for the presidency in 08?

and am at least glad I didn't miss this one there

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/03/19/1503782/-The-reason-why-Hillary...

It is "is a plea for civility from someone whose ability to stay civil has been sorely tested recently." I don't know whether it is titled for Hillary when it is mostly about Bernie, but if that keeps it from getting banned, well, good.

Two quotes: "There are people who have been waiting their whole lives to feel as excited about a candidate as they feel about Bernie Sanders. Not all his supporters are 18 and voting in their first election. Some of them are die hard old school lefties with grey hair and first-hand memories of sit-ins and flower power."

And "They want him to stay in the race until their primary so they can have a first-time once in a lifetime experience of voting for a candidate who they identify with in this very personal “he speaks for me/he is me” kind of way."

up
0 users have voted.

I also can't quite bring myself to completely cut the cord, and yes, I saw that quote and had to laugh out loud - yep, that describes me to a T. Grey hair, sit ins, flower power and all. So for me it's the second time I've been this enthusiastic (McGovern was the first).

And for the Hillary supporters who sputter "But but but - McGovern lost", my answer is yes, that's what happens. When you do the right thing, you don't always win. But McGovern was right, and I firmly believe that even though he lost the election, because of him and all of us who supported him, the war ended a lot sooner than it would have otherwise because we kept the issue from being swept under the rug. It's the same this year with Bernie. He (and we) may or may not win the election, but he's right. And because he (and we) are not going away quietly, we are forcing the issues to remain out in the open.

He is all horse race and all identity politics all the time. He has done more than anyone to push the meme that all POC are a monolithic voting block and the subtext that Sanders supporters are all sublimated racists. He is actively trying to drive schisms in the Democratic base. I am over him and his site as being any sort of sincere platform from which to launch change initiatives for the betterment of the majority of people. He's a power broker who thinks he can personally deliver a base. A large portion of the base is jumping off his delivery truck.

Plus, a guy who will personally ban a satirical essay? Really? He said it was because it was not a good analogy - notice that if you write satire in the future it has to go through his personal analogy applause-o-meter. But let's not kid ourselves - the reason he banned the Sauron essay is because it made fun of HIM and his edict to coalesce.

deliberately over there and the email landed in my junk folder. I didn't direct those dailykos emails to go into the junk box. Somehow I find that funny.

I donated over at dailykos according to my means and pretty much across the bord, especially in the earlier years. The first time I regretted a donation was when Markos had a fundraiser for his nephew (I think it was and the kid was in Greece), who needed a complicated expensive treatment for his cancer in Boston. The fundraiser had raised something in the two to three ten thousands of dollars range, if I remember correctly. Later on he wrote that he was successful in getting some money in the range of over 100,000.00 dollars through a sort of grant. I just thought, if his connections are that wonderful that he can miraculously manage to get that much money through his networking political connections and efforts, while other very sick people struggle to get one or two thousand dollars to not lose their roof over their head, what does that say about the man? Why would a man, who as we know now, has quite a bit of money on his own, go around and ask for a fundraiser of people, who basically have almost nothing, but wanted to show their empathy with the kid. Something rubbed me the wrong way in that one.

Markos Moulitsas: Sanders: Time to bow out - By Markos Moulitsas - 03/22/16 06:38 PM EDT

May be it's Markos who should bow out. Or booed out, or whatever ... out.

In short, there is no plausible route for Sanders to overcome the advantage Clinton enjoyed of 319 pledged delegates before Tuesday’s contests.
...
That’s just not going to happen.
Clinton beat Sanders in the South on the strength of the region’s Democratic base: African-Americans. She beat him in Hispanic-heavy states like Nevada and Florida. She beat him in white-dominated industrial states like Ohio. In fact, she’s beaten him just about everywhere Democrats came out to vote in numbers — of the nine states the Vermont senator has won, five have been low-turnout, undemocratic caucuses. While Sanders has gotten an impressive 6.3 million votes this cycle, Clinton has far outpaced him, with 8.7 million votes.

Just like Howard Dean taught us 10 years ago, you can’t build a meaningful progressive campaign without the support of African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians.
...
In short, the Sanders campaign is now making the same argument it was decrying just a few months ago — that Democratic super delegates should subvert the choice of the Democratic electorate to hand the nomination to the primary loser. It was an absurd argument when Clinton made it in 2008, and it’s no less absurd today. And if anyone was a beneficiary of such usurpation of the will of the voters, it certainly wouldn’t be an outsider like Sanders.

Sanders is obviously free to stay in the race so long as his supporters keep funding his efforts. But no one should get angry when the rest of the party starts focusing on the Trump threat.

Daily Kos is part of my arsenal. The few remaining progressives there deserve my support, it is literally an act of courage now to post a diary. I respect that, and I'm still fighting with them. Secondly, and just as importantly, is the cross-promotion of this site when it is appropriate which I have seen others doing as well. I even expected Kos to do something about that, but so far so good... This is a powerful recruitment tool for people that have been funneled into Daily Kos for leftish content, imagine a fresh progressive landing there right now... They need to know about the alternatives until we establish ourselves.

However let me be clear, I understand, respect and sympathize with those who cut the cord, they have excellent reasons to do so. I guess I'm being more practical at this point. My 2 cents. Cheers.

that when the controllers deny salt, people migrate to the sea. Please stick around and read more; takes some navigational skills at present to see what's here and not get lost; that's being worked on.
Again, as one member to another, a hearty welcome!

Of course c99p has been around one-twelfth the time that the other place has, and has a somewhat smaller membership. And there's currently a bit of venting going on, as new members here adjust from what they have left behind (and many haven't abandoned TOP).

The measure of this site will be what it becomes with a growing membership and a little more distance from the orange "original," as you put it. I tend to think this place has its originality, too, but that's just me . . . and the other thousand writers who have selected this place as a new home in the past two weeks.

Glad you decided to visit.

What has Daily Kos done? Not much that I can tell. It's just been a money making thing for the little CIA dude, other than that look at the democratic party today.
Also, this site is not a democratic party blog, so Daily Kos is not the original relative to this site. This site is an original that we're still creating. We should by no means want to match anything related to Daily Kos.

original for years if ever. But who ever said that was the goal - The power and depth to do what? Be the mouth organ of the party in power and a laboratory of team-building memes?

Kos started small, grew his base and became the powerhouse that he is, good for him. But as a consumer of his product, it's like when that restaurant that you liked a couple years ago franchised itself, started getting their food from a commissary, limited the number of items on the menu and one day you ask yourself - why am I still coming here? Co-incidentally, a smaller restaurant opens up down the street with a lot of good chefs which features a smaller menu and a great specials board. While there are fewer choices, I find a lot that appeal to me. Plus, the dining room isn't filled with people running around and turning my table over if I don't order what they like.

Because you'd get much better results than a freaking Coke.
And better music too for that matter.

he can afford it now. He sold the sports blog for a lot of money, it shouldn't be a problem for him to find $5 per person. He could probably make it $10 or $20 without too much difficulty.

You see, as he himself says, he's a progressive which is a code word for communist. From each according to his means to each according to his needs and he's got the means so I'm glad to see he's following through on his communistic beliefs. I can certainly use the $5!

I know...I said a couple of days ago I'd never write about that guy or that place ever again but $5 is $5.

I donated two years ago. THIS year, in March oddly enough, I unsubscribed from all Dkos emails, and logged out on March 15. So far, have not received this donation request. Maybe he took the hint. If not, I hope he takes yoga because I plan to suggest he take his request and do with it something that is physically rather difficult.
