Things Unseen/Unheard at the GOS/TOP
Submitted by Zeitgeistus on Tue, 03/22/2016 - 7:25am
Given the outrage earlier in the primary campaign over Bernie's supposed disrespecting and opposing Obama's legacy which was worthy of many diaries and comments at GOS, I was curious how Bill Clinton's most recent gaffe would be handled over there.

Strangely, it seems to be all over the news:

The other big event....Hillary's speech at AIPAC.

Real diversity of opinion over there.
Comments
Not surprised at all.
That's why I am here and no longer there. Been 3 weeks since I left and it's much better not being there. There are also reports all over of voter suppression, esp students in NC and Ill. Despicable.
Don't believe everything you think.
I didnt see/hear her AIPAC
I didnt see/hear her AIPAC speech yesterday but I skimmed-read the transcript. Good gawd.

actually there is this one
has anyone prodded subir to head over here?

I should have clarifyed
Nothing in the round-ups or front page on any of this. Subir's diary is quite good and there is very little substantive push-back in there. Afterall, what can one say when the candidate's own speech is full of hawkish awfulness?

Well,
New Minas was banned after posting an interview of Hillary Clinton in a comment.

Over-the-Top
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but if posting a video from a mainstream outlet is bannable, I guess reality is bannable.

Reality has always been bannable
That is the price you pay for a partisan blog. Reality is not partisan.

Awful
If you cared about nothing else, her hawkishness should disqualify her for anyone who truly considers themselves progressive/liberal/lefty.

The main reason I cannot vote for her
is her promotion of war. I believe she is the most hawkish of all the candidates in the Presidential race. She is pretty awful otherwise too, but that is my main reason. I participate in a weekly Peace vigil most of the year and it would be hypocritical of me to vote for such a hawkish candidate. PENAC anyone? No Thanks.

It is almost as if she is TYRING
not to BE a woman...She works HARD to out "man" men....I have known women like her in both the corporatate world and in the construction world... they work HARD not to be soft in ANY way... you could cut off their hands and they wouldn't shed a tear. Forina is another example of that. So is Albright.
Considering Albright's comment about "A special place in Hell..." these kinds of women will throw softer, more feminine nurturing women under the bus in a heart beat and sink a knife in their professional backs faster than you can whisper "sister"....

I think your comment
would make a great essay about how some women try so hard to be a man more than men do. I myself have no problem with strong women. My grand mother, mother and wife, were all very strong minded women. (Tall too, my wife was the shortest at 5-11) They all could be tough as nails, but never did they lose or discount their own femininity. Many women (imho) today seem to discount their femininity in order to bolster their "manliness" credibility. That is, their willingness to "pull the trigger" so to speak. Heck any man can pull the trigger, but can they show compassion and empathy, two traits that seem to elude Hillary and Albright.

Could she be any more of a suckup?
SO nauseating....I'll be so grateful if Sanders keeps enough volunteers/time/money to get to the convention (doing my bit, but it's not easy right now, the day job kicked back up a notch in "busy"). He's got to be there in case she does something so stupid that there's no way to not indict her or call her a total loser, not worthy of the ballot......
Obama can't be too happy with the Bill Gaffe
and hearing himself referred to as "the awful legacy of the last eight years". Talk about alienating the President! I thought Hillary came down like a ton of bricks on anyone who criticized the Prez, unless it's her.
I'm picturing Valerie Jarrett picking up the phone to the Justice Department - "Book her, Danno."

I'm thinking...
...that Bill's supposed excuse of being misquoted was payback for the White House's walk-back of encouraging Dem donors to rally behind Clinton. It's how they play.
It was not a gaffe
I believe it was dog whistle that Bill said on purpose. It is part of the pivot toward the center and right center because they probably believe they need those voters. They can no longer count on the left to automatically vote for her. The left is mad as hell and I believe we will see very low turnout this year as a result. I can almost guarantee the millennials will not vote if she is the nominee. I think the Clinton campaign is already starting to write them off and looking to cherry pick from the center and right center.

Subir
has written an excellent diary on Hillary's AIPAC speech and pointed out it is nearly identical to Trump's. He's going to have a rough day there...
Edited to add: I should read the comments first... My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Brussels and Belgium.
Progressive to the bone.
I saw Brain wrap
explaining to Atrios on twitter that Bill was just talking about how awful all the Republican obstructionism was, that it was the anti-Clinton people overreacting. Disappointing.

It wasn't a gaffe
It was a deceptively edited video from right-wing wing sources. Why does anyone still fall for this trick? Clinton's remarks were taken out of context.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
Keep whistling past the graveyard
Now that other, less right-wing sources have picked it up, we may find out what the real story is. I would not be surprised to learn it's "Bill's gone off the rails again".

No, Bill Clinton Did Not Describe The Obama Administration As An 'Awful Legacy'
Really, people ought to be smarter. Don't fall for right-wing propaganda.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
Oh, boy....
I should believe spin from Karoli, who was, last time I checked, a completely-in-the-tank Clinton partisan?
I really want to believe you, but you'll simply have to come up with something other than op-ed from inside the fishbowl. I've been reading C&Ls Karoli for a long time, and she's a demonstrable Clinton partisan.
So, what's the context?
So, what's the context?
"I literally from the time I met her 45 years ago, till we talked yesterday, she is the best change-maker I have ever known. She always finds a way to make something good happen, to make people feel empowered, to buy people into the process, to make democracy work the way the Founders intended for it to work.
"Now, if you don't believe we can all grow together again, if you don't believe we're ever going to grow again, if you believe it's more important to litigate the past, there many be many reasons that you don't want to support her.
"But if you believe we can all rise together, if you believe we've finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that when we were practicing trickle-down economics and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash, then you should vote for her because she's the only person who basically had good ideas, will tell you how she's going to pay for them . . . Maybe you have to speak "Clinton"
Maybe you have to speak "Clinton" to understand this. He's short-handing. (1) The last eight years was marked by Party of NO obstruction and economic sabotage, which Clinton blames for the lackluster recovery. I actually think President Obama and the Dem majority in Congress could have done a lot better with the ARRA and maybe some more infrastructure, government hiring etc. However Clinton is defending Obama, not attacking him.(2) He also wants to stick the entire blame for Wall Street de-regulation on President George W. Bush, getting his own administration off the hook for abolishing Glass-Steagall.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
That only works with total Clinton partisans
The rest of us place our own interpretation on what we hear and read. (Is it "Clinton" or "Klingon"? verengan Ha'DIbaH )
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
No thank you I'll pass...English is hard enough.
I think we need to take the mic from both Bill and Hillary and relegate 'Clintonese' to the junk heap of history.

now where have I heard that phrase before?
