As she (Omar) saw it, the party ostensibly committed to progressive values had become complicit in perpetuating the status quo. Omar says the “hope and change” offered by Barack Obama was a mirage. Recalling the “caging of kids” at the U.S.-Mexico border and the “droning of countries around the world” on Obama’s watch, she argues that the Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework as his Republican successor.

“We can’t be only upset with Trump. … His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar says. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

That progressive insurgency that I've been talking about since the 2016 election may not have gotten many victories, but it got a few LEGIT victories.
This has opened the overton window.
This will encourage more insurgency campaigns in 2020. Don't be surprised if the progressive insurgency wins twice as many victories next year.
Which will still be a small minority of Dems, but an even larger overton window and more pushback.

Twenty six (26) states have passed laws making it illegal for citizens and businesses to boycott Israel. Talk about First Amendment rights being abridged in favor of a foreign country. Really Brave

This is how you do it. Rather than making some mealy mouthed backtrack on the first statement, Omar used the platform she now had to speak more truth, truths I can't imagine the other "progressive rising stars" having the guts to say. Hell, I don't think I've heard any Democratic politicians period daring to call out Obama on anything, let alone a statement like that. And she's 100% correct! We need more like her ASAP and I wish her the best of luck.

Her statement on Obama took a lot of guts and it's so great to see someone call him out for what he did, but still got accolades from his supporters. I'm sick of seeing people saying that he was the best president in their lifetimes and that he left office scandal free. The hell he did. His whole tenure was a scandal. Kill list Tuesday's? Seriously no one thought that was a scandal? Lots of us sure do. Or instead of counting every person killed by drones he just decided that every male over 14 could be considered a terrorist.

Was surprised to see that even an establishment Dem such as

Clyburn had to admit candidly who Omar was and where she had come from (sorry for RW site that came up in a search):

“many of the media reports surrounding the recent controversy have omitted mentioning that Omar … had to flee the country to escape violence and spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to the United States.”

This he alleges, makes her experiences more “empirical” and “powerful” than those who have parents that survived the Holocaust, Japanese internment camps, and other tragic events in history.

Though sadly it also points out that he signed Pelosi's statement last month calling her out for her ~~alleged~~ totally misconstrued remarks on ~~Israel~~ the influence of foreign government lobbies.

Clyburn's a peculiar bird, if I remember.

Seem to recall that during both the '08 and '16 primaries he appeared to really be struggling as a congressman from SC with the expectations that he'd automatically endorse The $hill. There was definitely an event at a black college by which time he had decided to get behind her, and was met by pretty strong opposition from students who wanted Bernie.

Crickets as Clyburn endorses Hillary because the room was all Bernie supporters!
