Former Sanders campaign spokesman: Clinton staff are 'biggest a--holes in American politics'
The spokesman for Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) 2016 presidential campaign slammed Hillary Clinton and her staff as "total ingrates" and "assholes" following criticism from ex-Clinton aides over Sanders's use of private jets.
"You can see why she's one of the most disliked politicians in America. She's not nice. Her people are not nice," Michael Briggs, the spokesman, told Politico of Clinton. "[Sanders] busted his tail to fly all over the country to talk about why it made sense to elect Hillary Clinton and the thanks that [we] get is this kind of petty stupid sniping a couple years after the fact."
Briggs also called Clinton and her staff "assholes."
"It doesn't make me feel good to feel this way but they're some of the biggest assholes in American politics," he said, according to Politico.
*
"Sen. Sanders campaigned so aggressively for Secretary Clinton, at such a grueling pace, it became a story unto itself, setting the model for how a former opponent can support a nominee in a general election," Jones added.

she had the biggest revolving door on Capitol Hill.
This is from someone very close to me, who worked on the Hill.
People would flock to her employ, probably because she was so powerful. Then, after working with her, they left in droves.
The lawyers who work for Congress would draw straws when the time came to brief her on anything. Short straw got the Clinton.

And to think I actually voted for her as my Senator in 2001 when I lived in New York. I had recently become a citizen and my first election was Gore in the Bush election fraud. This is the quintessential non-story of...
...the month. If you read The Hill's story, in its entirety, which I did (on Monday morning), you'd realize how pathetic this really makes the entire matter appear. First of all, there's no story here. But, some former Clinton staffers tried to turn it into one. And, yeah, they succeeded in doing same over at a third-rate media outlet. But, very few--if any other media--outlets, picked it up. But, here it is on C99P. Why? (For the record: That last word is a rhetorical question.)
Over at TOP it's: "Bernie's not a f*cking Democrat!"
Here, it's: "Bernie's a f*cking Democrat!"

The Hill piece is a story (IMO) because
it, hopefully, clears up a major misconception that Bernie didn't try to help FSC get elected. Don't know how that urban legend got started, but, it did.
Just posted a video the other day in which he states that he went on the road for her (rallies) approximately 21 times during the last week of the General campaign.
Also, the rumor that Cable News media 'blacked out' his campaign is absolutely unfounded. During 2015 and 2016, I often posted links to transcripts and videos of his interviews on two Cable News Channels--CNN and MSNBC.
Also, C-Span aired his rallies, as they did DT's and FSC's. The only candidate who got more face time than Bernie was DT--before the Romeny speech. Soon after that, DT mostly gave interviews to Fox, because he claimed/perceived Cable TV coverage of him to be too negative. Oh, and the same was true for the number of appearances Bernie made on the Sunday political shows, which I often provided links to (the transcripts, that is).
Again, not to beat a dead horse. But, the same unfounded statements keep popping up--regardless of how much evidence is presented, otherwise.
Having said that, I agree that the business about the private jets is ridiculous, and totally unimportant. Most folks will probably see it as a desperate attempt to disparage him and/or his campaign, and will likely disregard it. (IMO)

During the Democratic Primaries in 2016
CNN had a camera focused on an empty airport tarmac for 30 minutes waiting for Trumps campaign plane to arrive at the same time Bernie was holding a record breaking rally. Perhaps this is what we mean when we refer to the media's selective "blackout" when reporting about Bernie's popularity or something encouraging about his movement.
I'd also be interested to see any media outlet provide an estimate on the dollar amount they gave Bernie in free advertising compared to the $2 billion The New York Times estimated was given to Trump in free media coverage.

Hi, Sean! Fine, then say it--as you just did. That's
my only beef. (In my book, those are two separate issues.)
Probably shouldn't admit it, but, various news channels are playing during most of our waking hours--home and vehicle. (Aside from periodic breaks to listen to classical music. Can't possibly tolerate hours of MSM propaganda, without some respite. )
Hey, there's no argument out of me that early in the campaign season--partly due to cable ratings and the click-bait DT provided, according to the cable news folks who now lament having given him free media--he garnered a truckload of media attention. (I mentioned that in my comment, above.) Of course, it's also been reported that it was done to help Dems/FSC, since the Dem PtB/MSM/DS believed that he would be the easiest Republican candidate to beat.
Don't know the figure for how much free media DT got--but, would bet the family farm that Bernie's figures are second to it.
Most of the other candidates were infrequently interviewed on Cable News channels. And, FSC was practically a "ghost candidate" on any of the news programs/channels--including, the Sunday political programs. My understanding is that it was by choice. In other words, she was the supposed "front runner" (according to some polls)--so, her campaign thought that she shouldn't blow it by exposing herself to tough questioning and/or risk making a mistake.
Starting this evening, as I hear him, I'll be posting links to Bernie's interviews, etc., including his CNN Town Hall last night. (I did that last year, but, apparently, it wasn't noticed. )
Good to see you, again.

I provided a link to answer the first part of your question
https://www.counterpunch.org/2016/10/11/elevating-trump/
And I would bet the family farm that Bernie's figures did not come close to what the New York Times commented was an unprecedented amount of free media coverage Trump was bequeathed.
The link I provided also answered why Trump was given so much media coverage. Hint: the DNC and the Clinton machine thought Donald would make a better candidate for Hillary to run against.
I can't say the media felt the same way about Bernie though. And I'd imagine their free media coverage reflected that.

Here's what I said,
Don't know the figure for how much free media DT got--but, would bet the family farm that Bernie's figures are second to it.
By that I meant to indicate that I believe that Bernie was "second" in the number of appearances, to DT. I have no idea about how much the cost of the free time to any candidate would add up to, except for the link that you provided. So, thanks.
(To be specific--not talking about print media. Only CNN, MSNBC, the Sunday political shows, and C-Span.)
I've heard a CNN producer lament on his XM program (POTUS Channel) that they regret giving DT so much time, if it helped get him elected. Again, my understanding is that he was intended to be an assist to FSC--not to help DT.
Guess we'll just have to agree, to disagree (on this issue).

I'm not sure what we are disagreeing about
$2 billion worth of free media coverage would include A LOT of "appearances" for Donald Trump. You're not claiming that the media bequeathed even half that dollar amount of "appearances" to Bernie's campaign, are you?
There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~ Minnie Aumonier
Not even close
As Zoe has state, the media gave Trump $2 billion in free media because Hillary asked them to focus on him because she thought she could beat him. Bernie's rallies were ignored to the point that when he was going to declare at his first one and Ed Schultz was going to cover it he was told not to and to focus on TRump who wouldn't be talking for over an hour. Ed got so pissed he ended up being fired.
A leftist is someone with morally correct politics. A liberal is someone who wants to feel morally correct w/o ever putting themselves at odds with power or costing themselves opportunities or experiencing the uncomfortable emotions that truth causes.
Here's what I know,
first hand . . .
During the 2015 and 2016 Presidential election cycles--DT and Sanders got the most face time.
Now, DT has never been a pol, but, he reportedly was always a media gadfly, and garnered heavy NY City media coverage. (I've read.) And he carried that propensity with him as a candidate, until Romney's March 2016 public tongue-lashing. After that, Cable News coverage took a much more negative tone, so, DT himself became relatively scarce on cable channels--except for Fox. And, for the remainder of the Presidential race, instead of heavy personal appearances, DT sent out surrogates, such as KellyAnne Conway (to channels other than Fox).
Bernie is (today) a 29-year pol, who for years has been, and still is, very prolific in his media appearances. The 2015/2016 Presidential election cycle was absolutely no exception. He is currently a regular on CNN, MSNBC, and both the network and cable Sunday programs. (Also, on C-Span's Newsmakers.)
So, both individuals are very media savvy.
BTW, my exact words were that Bernie's coverage was SECOND TO DT's.
By my definition, 'second to,' is not the same as 'close to.'
I will have to leave it to the media to report how much the free media coverage was worth. All I could observe was the frequency of their face time--not any of the cost factors/quotients. That's well beyond my pay grade. I clearly wouldn't have had access to that type of information.
I imagine that DT's free media figures were estimated, or assessed, because he won the election, and the MSM wanted to determine how they might have inadvertently contributed to that fiasco.
As for me, I've never seen an estimate of the worth of Bernie's free media. I'm 'guessing' that we might have found out, had Bernie been the one to foil the One Percent's/PtB's/MSM's well-laid plans of electing FSC as President.
But, that's an "unknown unknown," I suppose.
(Folks who've been here a long time, likely know that I had no dog in that fight. Meaning, I didn't vote for/support Bernie, or DT. I've never made any bones about that.)
Regarding why Bernie got so much face time--don't forget, other than Bernie, only two totally disconnected from the political scene former pols--Webb and Chaffee--even pretended to challenge FSC in 2016.
So, if Bernie had not been granted a lot of Cable News face time, I would imagine that it would have been even more glaring that "a fix was in." Or, an attempted one.
(Especially true, since as I've pointed out, he's frequently on Cable. That's 'normal' for him.)

Just to note
Martin O'Malley was also a Dem candidate in 2016. He seemed to have more ambitions than Webb or Chaffee. I got the impression he was aiming for a cabinet position in the Clinton III administration.
As an aside, it's stuck in my mind from that first debate, Lincoln Chaffee referring to himself as a block of granite. He kept repeating "I'm a block of granite". Maybe that analogy went over better in Rhode Island than it did to a national audience. Bless his heart, as they say in the South.

Guess he was easy to forget because of his huge following:

Trump got the most attention, and nobody else was close. Second was Hillary. Bernie was below both of them. Don't recall how he stacked up to people like Rubio or O'Malley.

Hi, CStMS! Well, we have a different measure,
since your measure is rather generalized--"the most attention." And, I'm not sure what all that would encompass.
In fairness, I think I've been consistent and specific--or, tried to be. I didn't include print media (at all) when I've made my comments.
My (consistent) first-hand observations were limited to--
to two Cable Channels--MSNBC and CNN. (And Fox, on Sundays-- with Chris Wallace.)
to all network and cable Sunday political programs--which we hear on replay on C-Span on Sundays.
and, includes C-Span's coverage of the campaigns, including the candidate's rallies.
On these venues, from Jun 2015 until March/April 2016 - it was DT first in face time.
(I explained in another reply above that DT sent out various surrogates after Romney's scathing national speech, so, his appearances on MSNBC and CNN steadily dwindled. IOW, when the tone of his coverage got very negative, he cut out.)
Second in coverage, Bernie.
Possibly, O'Malley after Bernie, although he was not real heavy hitter on teevee.
(Heck, I forgot he even ran. He was mostly an afterthought. Worse than O'Malley, I could probably count on both hands the number of interviews, together, that Webb and Chaffee garnered.)
FSC was the "ghost candidate" on the venues that I'm addressing. Of course, Podesta and a few other shills showed up as surrogates (on her behalf) from time to time.
As I've stated, from my reading, I believe that it was self-imposed (her lack of face time). IOW, they knew she was very unpopular; and, they likely also worked from the assumption that she was the front-runner, so why allow her to possibly make a mistake. So, she sent out minions in her stead.
To be clear, my comments were meant to address the actual face time of the candidates. It did not include their staffers, etc.
(Hey, got Mr M to make a pit stop so I could answer your reply. I'm not sure how much more clarification I can offer, but, I'm willing to continue to verify my comments.)
Honestly, any discussion of media outside the venues that I've named, will need to exclude me. We pulled the plug on teevee a decade ago. So, we're limited to XM satellite radio channels, period, unless we stream online. (I do have basic cable down South, but, spent more time north during the campaign.)
Good to see you!

Just to be more specific:
what I'm recalling is a statistic citing number of minutes spent by major networks (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) on the various candidates.
This isn't my own recollection of how much coverage I saw, but a recollection of a statistic that had measured how many minutes spent per candidate.
This is a chart for 2015:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/526869/us-2016-presidential-news-cov...
What about Bernie Sanders? The Tyndall Report analyzed major-network campaign coverage in 2015. In over 1,000 minutes of national broadcast television airtime devoted to all the campaigns, Donald Trump received 327 minutes, or close to one-third of all the campaign coverage. Bernie Sanders received just 20 minutes. Hillary Clinton got 121 minutes of campaign coverage, six times the amount Sanders received. “ABC World News Tonight” aired 81 minutes of reports on Donald Trump, compared with just 20 seconds for Sanders.

Thanks, CStMS--I will accept those stats
as reflective of media coverage.
(Coverage, that is, that includes discussions by talking heads, anchors, Cable News Hosts, etc., when the various candidates were not present.)
But, that was never a part of my personal measure; nor, was it factored into my own real time analysis of the coverage of the candidates (in 2016).
IOW, my reference has always been [only] to the face time of the candidates, themselves --on the news media which I followed in 2016, since that's all that I could possibly know about.
The quote above is from my first reply to you. That's what I meant by saying that your measure appears to be more generalized. Which was not to say that your measure was bad--just that it's a different measurement from mine, which is the one that I've tried to convey for the better part of a day, now.
And, to be perfectly clear, I never included the time that members of the news media, talking heads, etc., spent discussing Presidential candidates--without the candidates being present/interviewed.
IOW, my frame of reference was strictly Presidential candidate face time on the outlets that I followed during the 2016 election cycle.

Bernie pushing Russian propaganda again
This Russian crap has come with all kinds of bad consequences such as censorship and those damn companies like Integrity Initiative and PropOrNot that is killing alternative websites like the ones that covers Bernie more than the main stream ones do. He knows that Russia had nothing to do with Hillary's loss and that she lost because she was a horrible candidate and a warmonger. Shame on him for doing it.
A leftist is someone with morally correct politics. A liberal is someone who wants to feel morally correct w/o ever putting themselves at odds with power or costing themselves opportunities or experiencing the uncomfortable emotions that truth causes.
People are upset that he's saying that
The Becks are trying to sue the DNC for cheating Bernie and he keeps saying that. We're not stupid Bernie. We know what really happened. So do you.
A leftist is someone with morally correct politics. A liberal is someone who wants to feel morally correct w/o ever putting themselves at odds with power or costing themselves opportunities or experiencing the uncomfortable emotions that truth causes.
See, that's why I can't support Bernie.
It's not just that election fraud exists; it's that he is, at least publicly, in denial about its existence, at least as a home-grown substance.
If he ever did admit that American election fraud comes from America, he'd probably blame the Trumpistas. And I'm guessing that some of the people who scammed the public last time probably did support Trump. But I know that the Clintons and their DNC committed election fraud, and Bernie will never, never say that. So, since he won't admit it in public, he will likely never fight it. He sure didn't fight it last time, not even as much as Kerry and Gore did when it happened to them (though back then, the virus was spread by the Bushes, not the Clintons).

We are sure seeing a pattern of election fraud aren't we?
Both Gore and Kerry were kept from office because of election fraud and nothing is being done about it. Gore actually did win Florida, but the SC stepped in and declared for Bush because Sandra O'Connor wanted to retire under a republican president. I'm thinking that there were other reasons why Bush was wanted a president. Bush stole the election through Ohio the next time and it wasn't subtle. RFK Jr. tried to bring a suit and was denied. Next we had the DNC and Hillary blatantly cheat Bernie during the primary.
Yup. I see a pattern and none of them even bothered to fight it. Kerry, "I will fight for you if I think the election was meddled with" folded immediatly. Bernie, "I will take this all the way to the convention", is now saying that Hillary won fair and square. So if he is cheated again will he say anything? We'll see.......
A leftist is someone with morally correct politics. A liberal is someone who wants to feel morally correct w/o ever putting themselves at odds with power or costing themselves opportunities or experiencing the uncomfortable emotions that truth causes.

Don't poke the bear, particularly for stupid reasons.
Any politician who campaigns on that Russiagate bs is imperiling the world. If Maddow is a tool, if Clinton is a manipulative liar, that puts Bernie in their company. It is inexcusable.
I do not care what his justification for spouting that propaganda is, it is too dangerous for him to do so. He might win. He might be more of a war monger that I ever imagined him to be.
And I enjoyed this essay, glad Amanda posted it, and even if it got pretty caustic in the comments, it appears that everyone here has reasons for supporting/not supporting particular candidates, and most of us do state our reasons forcefully, not insultingly.

The United States, for the past 4-15 years,
(depending on how you look at it), has been in the business of convincing the rest of the world that Russia and China are a way better bet for Reigning Superpower than America is.
Imperialism, yeah, human rights violations, yeah, inadequate response to climate change (and I'm being polite here), yeah, but at least Russia and China don't want a nuclear war. And at least they don't assume that they can just pick a person from a country, educate him, send him back to his home country, and without even bringing off a successful coup, just have him declare himself president, after which they will recognize the "opposition leader" as president internationally. Like the idea of busting into an embassy and gunning everyone down, or the idea that CEOs should have no moral obligation beyond maximizing company profits, this is one of those ideas with the potential to destroy civilization, and a lot more quickly than biosphere collapse.

Yeah, but unless the site rules have been changed,
you don’t decide what someone can post about.
I have NO interest in anything DNC related. None. And Sanders has become a good little minion. He knew the score in 2016. He knew that the election was being ‘rigged’. There is absolutely no way he couldn’t considering all the dirty tricks and trashing they threw his way. But he’s never had the integrity to address that issue with his ‘supporters’. After Obama gave him a stern talking-to, he hopped right into the fray defending the party of the Steele (Clinton) Dossier. So basically, he’s no more honest than they are.
And don’t tell me about his promise to support the candidate that win the primary. Once he jumped into the plan to rig and then destabilize the administration of the shitheel who DID win the election, he became just another crooked politician padding his nest and looking out for himself, and NOT looking out for the country, his supporters, or the rule of the laws of this country.

It's too bad that you keep beating this dead horse. Don't put words in my mouth, nor project thoughts in my head that don't exist. (I certainly did not put them in yours.) Obviously, you're upset by my opinion(s) in this thread.
"Freedom is something that dies unless it's used." --Hunter S. Thompson
Your opinions don’t bother me.
Your arrogance does. And things will be just fine as long as you try to prove people wrong by addressing a post with information, and exhibit some self-restraint when it comes to the fact that you don’t get to pick and chose what is post-worthy and what isn’t.
And just to maybe help you out in the future, not everybody supports Sanders anymore. His ability to effortlessly slide into the DNC’s propaganda wars shows how much he believed in what he was promoting. Remember his “Better Way” crap. Excuse me, but jumping into bed with the assholes who caused the most serious and DISGRACEFUL political scandal this country has ever seen says everything you need to know about Bernie Sanders.

Bob is an old friend from dailykos days...
He isn't new to c99 anymore than OPOL, Ek, or me. Bob has just started commenting here more than before, and I am delighted that he is.
I am sorry you got upset by Bob's comment. Be assured he isn't telling you what to do any more than you are telling him what to do. I personally was torn by what he said.
I am torn between calling a spade a spade and shutting my mouth when it comes to Bernie. Tulsi will never get elected, and Bernie is the best we've got so why shit on him? What if we bitch about him enough that we end up with Beto? One good thing about Bernie is that he seems to hear the criticisms that come his way and, much to my chagrin sometimes, act on them. I didn't like Bernie apologizing for the sexual harassment complaints leveled against someone who worked on his campaign that he didn't do and knew nothing about. He owned a wrong he didn't have to and that didn't belong to him. On the other hand, he parlayed the attack into an opportunity to quiet all of the feminine justice warriors.
Bernie also just issued an email to his supporters admonishing them to be respectful to the supporters of other Dem candidates. In light of the information in this diary - pray, wtf? Did he get complaints from Hillarybots that he believes are true and is, therefore, admonishing his bratty supporters not to be "Berniebros"? Needless to say, this totally pissed me off. First, I don't like being painted with a broad brush when they're painting the group as woefully crude or evil. Don't ever put me in a group that you are publicly lecturing to not burp at the dinner table, yell fuck in a church, or hit grandma with a rolling pin when I did no such thing.
My foray into the dailykos straw poll brought me into close proximity with fervent Bernie fans. They are intense, but they can't hold a candle to Hillary thugs.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
If we’ve come to the point when the best
candidate we can scrape up is a guy pushing the DNC’s propaganda and lies, I truly believe we’re screwed. I look every day for someone trust worthy and Tulsi Gabbard is the only one out there not trying to BS everybody. Sanders has lied and covered for the Clinton political machine since the day Obama gave him his marching orders. That, IMO, is why Sanders is unsupportable. He’s been LYING to us ever since he was told what was expected of him and he’d better start toeing the official DNC line. The only alternative is that he believes that nonsense, which again makes him unsupportable. But I don’t think that’s what going on with him. He’s not that stupid. So that leaves one alternative and that is he’s been lying to cover for what really happened before, during, and since the 2016 election.

We are screwed Amanda.... no surprise here.
Even if Bernie should win, can he deliver? He is counting on seething masses demanding they get a piece of the pie. I think we'll get shit. Unless someone has a better idea on how to effect change, any change, this is as good as it gets. I can't remember all the particulars, but someone well know for this conducted some research and found that Bernie & Trump had so much support because they were the two the public thought would "shake things up". Yes, we're screwed when shaking it up is as good as it gets.
Just wanted to let you know that Bob is a good friend and ally of c99. DailyKos hated him, but he was so popular there they didn't want to ban him. They did, however, put him in their dungeon and leave him there longer than anyone I know. I'm sure he holds the record. We are lucky to have him with us.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
I don’t care about his past record. I do care about
the way he responded to my OP. He can say and do whatever he wants but when he posts something thoroughly rude and uncalled for, and it’s directed at me, then you get back what you got.
Now, if I had been the first one to be rude and obnoxious I would think your finger wagging was justified, but I wasn’t. When someone talks down to me, I tend to get to their level.
Please explain to me why this was an appropriate way to respond to my post. Apparently I’m too stupid to understand why such an over-the-too response is acceptable so that I know how to behave in the future.
Thanks!

What’s the problem? Those are your exact words, right?
I’m gonna say it again. The OP wasn’t about St Bernie and it wasn’t about his campaign, it was about what SOMEONE ELSE, stating the obvious. But you made the choice to be rude and obnoxious about some imagined slight about Sanders. So quit acting like a victim. No one did a thing to you to set you off. And I hope you learned a good lesson here. This should NEVER have happened.
And you’re the one who made it happen, so stop with the innocent routine.

His apology did nothing to quiet them
They're still calling him "rapey" on Twitter. I only know this second-hand, because I don't go there anymore, but I saw the screenshot. I think it was reposted on C99, actually.
The idea that if we criticize Bernie we will end up with Beto is baseless. The DNC will give us whoever they want to give us, always assuming they can make their fraud look plausible.
Now that they've abolished caucuses and put elections infrastructure under the control of DHS, there's no reason to think that they will not concoct whatever result they want. I'm guessing Kamala Harris will figure prominently. After all, the DNC has publicly (as part of the legal record, I believe) informed all of us that it is a private club and its leadership need not refer to us at all when deciding who they're going to choose as nominee, so it seems extraordinarily unlikely that they will pay attention to our criticisms of Bernie Sanders when choosing who to represent their party in the general election.

I read the comments in it, and I thought to myself: "The folks here (at TOP) are going so far out of their way to be polite to each other, it's ridiculous! They're so concerned and uptight about not getting negative feedback from the audience and the moderators, it's to the point where the 'political commentary' reads more like an exercise in blog etiquette."
