Both parties agree that permanent war is necessary

Who says that Trump can't unite the two parties?
Yesterday both parties in the Senate joined hands to denounce Trump's efforts to reduce the level of carnage we have inflicted upon the world.

The vast majority of Senate Republicans backed Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday in a rebuke of President Trump’s rationale for withdrawing U.S. troops from Syria and Afghanistan, voting to declare that the Islamic State’s presence and activity in both countries continue to pose a serious threat to the United States.
... It salutes “the positive role” the United States and its allies have played in Syria and Afghanistan, “fighting terrorist groups, countering Iranian aggression, deterring the further use of chemical weapons, and protecting human rights.”

About half of the Democrats, mostly from the Bernie Sanders wing of the party, voted against the measure, while establishment Democrats voted for the bill.
Republicans overwhelmingly prefer war.

A bipartisan group in the House moved to do the same.

The first bill, titled the “Responsible Withdrawal From Syria Act,” prohibits the use of Pentagon funds to draw down active duty troop presence in Syria below 1,500.
...The second bill, titled the “United States and Republic of Korea Alliance Support Act,” takes a similar route and would also halt the use FY-19 DoD dollars “to reduce the total number of Armed Forces serving on active duty in the Republic of Korea below 22,000,” pending several certifications to Congress.

Recall that Congress never even debated an AUMF for our illegal invasion of Syria.
But ending an illegal war, well, they have time to debate (and oppose) that.
Nothing scares Washington more than the threat of peace.

To put this into perspective, this is how Washington views the world.

The U.S.’s “traditional adversaries” — read: Russia and China — will seek to use “the weakening of the post-WWII international order and…increasingly isolationist tendencies in the West” to gain influence, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence warned in a new strategy document released Wednesday.
...The warning from the intelligence community comes amid rising concerns about what critics call isolationism under President Trump. Former secretary of defense Jim Mattis resigned in December over differing opinions over the value of partners and allies abroad. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan measure barring the administration from using federal funds to withdraw from NATO and rebuking Trump for his frequent attacks on the alliance. The vote, 357-22, showed the depth of concern on Capitol Hill.

Right. "Isolationist tendencies".
In 2017, US commandos deployed to 137 countries, roughly 70% of the nations on Earth.
This is "isolationism" apparently.

You think Bernie is getting smeared?
That's nothing compared to the anti-Tulsi efforts.
See here and here.

They want to drown her anti-war message before the public can hear it.

So I click on his link to see his source for the money she is taking from the war industry, and it takes me to the home page of OpenSecrets.org and wishes me luck. After some digging around, I find her contributors for 2018. Nowhere are the companies he listed in her list of contributors.

Sounds like Akbar Shahid Ahmed's real complaint is she's not big on Islam.

And state Sen. Kai Kahele, a fellow Democrat, recently declared his candidacy for Gabbard’s congressional seat. Days after he announced, the powerhouse liberal group Daily Kos, which directed millions of dollars to Democratic candidates in 2017 and 2018, endorsed Kahele.

Politico says Markos doesn't like her.

when will our young people catch on to this racket of a war-machine and stop volunteering? Smedley Butler should be required reading for every American.

@Raggedy Ann there will NEVER be a shortage of those basically forced to "volunteer" in order to eat and our owners know that. A feature, not a bug.

DOn't you know, the system is built in TO keep the poor volunteering.

I am a US Army Vet. I tried to pay my own way through college, coudn't afford it, dropped out joined the Army. Thanks to the Army I have a good career now.

Don't you know that the service is one of the few ways the poor can rise up to get an education and opportunities? And that isn't a bug of our capitalistic society...
IT IS A FEATURE!

I’m well aware of it, which many, as you indicate, are not, therefore I see it as a topic we must return to again and again until the message gets through. Enough war might bring about the protests needed.

Remember Vietnam!

but that isn't good enough for those who do not like her. But for some reason it's okay that Booker stopped taking donations from Big Pharma and voted against Bernie's Pharma bill and he can still be accepted as a candidate.

OTOH: If people who write a progressive diary using anonymous sources is unacceptable, but if they use those sources for let's say a Russia Gate diary no one has a problem with it.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

In this world. Hand out assault rifles to all the congress critters and have them show us what their 'positive role' is in the world. The couldn't shoot their way out of an appropriations bill, even with air support.

I would have given it a week... but today I saw the a beer truck with a new paint job. Saluting soldier that looked right out of a 1960's "Uncle Sam Needs YOU!" poster.

I fear this war is happening, and we can look forward to everybody in the media saying, "welp, we're at war now, and when our country is at war... we want to win."
