C'mon, You Knew It Was Too Good to be True

Trump Gotcha.jpg

Yes, the T ordered a follow-up background check on K regarding the current allegations.

However, as I mentioned in someone else's essay, if one is ordered, getting at some truth would depend on the limits of the investigation, whether they were narrow or broad. We know have our answer.

From: White House limits scope of the FBI's Kavanaugh investigation

...the White House counsel's office has given the FBI a list of witnesses they are permitted to interview, according to several people who discussed the parameters on the condition of anonymity. They characterized the White House instructions as a significant constraint on the FBI investigation and caution that such a limited scope, while not unusual in normal circumstances, may make it difficult to pursue additional leads in a case in which a Supreme Court nominee has been accused of sexual assault.

As the article states, this is not what people such as Sen Flake and other members of the Judiciary Committee would like to see as it limits the FBI from following up on leads.

Allegations from Dr. Ford and Deborah will be investigated within these limits (not those of Swetnik or any others that Avenatti may have on hand).

But as of now, the FBI cannot ask the supermarket that employed Judge for records verifying when he was employed there, one of the sources was told. Ford said in congressional testimony Thursday that those records would help her narrow the time frame of the alleged incident which she recalls happening some time in the summer of 1982 in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Two sources familiar with the investigation said the FBI will also not be able to examine why Kavanaugh's account of his drinking at Yale University differs from those of some former classmates, who have said he was known as a heavy drinker. Those details may be pertinent to investigating claims from Ramirez who described an alleged incident of sexual misconduct she said occurred while Kavanaugh was inebriated.

The limitations could very well mean that what people will take as the truth is far from the actual facts.

My belief in Karma is getting very shaky.

with what I posted at EB last night (per CNN's Dana Bash).

When I heard that Avenatti was the attorney, I thought that it was a tactical mistake on the part of the person who retained him. Partly, because he's already declared interest in running for President in 2020, even having made a trip to Iowa. (It doesn't mean that he can't be an honest broker, but, IMO, it would give a ton of fuel to Repubs to scream foul.) At any rate, I agree that it's not right to exclude the accusers from at least being investigated. But, it's sorta par for the course.

Hey, instead of me figuring out 'where' your reply about Leland Keyser is in NHK's thread, I'll post the confirmation of the Keyser-Beckel info here--for the sake of convenience. Wink Also, will just post a couple of links, without excerpts, since I'm pretty pushed for time.

Bottom line, years before Leland became partially disabled in 2015, she was a golf pro. (She's since remarried.) According to Beckel's bio, "I Should Be Dead: My Life Surviving Politics, TV, and Addiction," he met her at a local (Maryland) country club playing golf. At the time, he was unaware that she was a pro instructor.

Below is a Heavy.com fairly lengthy piece about her and him. (photos of family, etc.)

Leland Keyser, Bob Beckel’s Ex-Wife: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

But, the main reason that I believe that she is his ex-spouse, is that it would be too easy to dispute the Wikipedia entry [if it was not so], since their marriage and divorce would have to be part of a public record wherever they lived--Maryland, I believe.

Have a good rest of your weekend!

I almost didn't post as I think many people are getting tired of this particular soapbox drama; however, as it involves a SCOTUS choice that will most definitely change this country into something we are not going to like even faster than predicted, I thought it was important to keep up.

I agree about the witnesses choosing Avenatti, and would be interested in knowing why so many did. One doing so would be much more understandable than the "many" that he claims to have.

The order does not only exclude witnesses, it doesn't allow for follow-up of other witnesses or even follow-up questions. For example,
Question: "Where you there on the night in question?
Answer: I do not remember.
Statement: Thank you for your time. I am not allowed to ask anything else.

Thank you for the information on Leland Keyser.

I'm sharing. But, I thought it was noteworthy since Maryland authorities first said that they wouldn't consider filing charges against Kavanaugh.

Of all things, it's a Fox News piece.

Here you go,

Maryland authorities say they'll investigate Kavanaugh -- if a victim files a complaint
By Louis Casiano | Fox News

Authorities in Maryland on Friday said they were prepared to conduct a state-level criminal investigation into sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh--provided that a victim comes forward.

The disclosure by Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger and Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy came Friday, the same day that President Trump ordered the FBI to conduct a limited "supplemental" investigation.

the bad news,

But Manger and McCarthy noted that prosecution was unlikely in Maryland because authorities would have to apply the law that existed at the time of the offense, not the law that exists now, Baltimore's FOX 45 News reported.

For example, in 1982, assault and attempted rape were both misdemeanors and subject to a one-year statute of limitations,” they wrote.

But they added: “The Montgomery County Police Department and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office stand ready to investigate any sexual assault allegation from any victim where the incident occurred in our jurisdiction.”

Still, I'm 'guessing' that an additional investigation could yield evidence which could be used against Kavanaugh in his confirmation hearing. (If they move quick enough, that is.)

Hope I didn't oversell this piece! Biggrin

@Unabashed Liberal

Important distinction here:

from any victim where the incident occurred in our jurisdiction.”

So even the women's allegations that the T won't allow the FBI to investigate would be covered by this.

I sure hope they ALL take advantage of this offer and anyone else who has been afraid to report. I am sure it cannot be completed in the single week delay that was been so graciously provided (yes, that is snark), but it could give additional grounds to impeach him for perjury once he is seated (against all hopes, decency and common sense to the contrary).

I sure am glad you posted the quotes because I do not go to Fox news (except by accident occasional, and I leave faster than I got there). They will not get any clicks from me if at all possible!

Thank you! Well, worth the wait! = )

Make sure to take a look at the link that Snoopydawg posted. Excellent article! I knew quite a bit of it, but there are a number of surprises I was unaware of. I would say something very nasty about Rs and reading and butts, but I won't = )

definitely check out SD's info. She's always very much 'on top of things,' as they say. Wink

BTW, I don't know a great deal about the backgrounds of the other two women. I'm 'thinking' that the one from Colorado might have been somewhere other than Maryland--at Yale?--at the time that she says K exposed himself to her, during a drinking game.

Now, seems I heard that the third woman knew him when he was younger, and still in Maryland. I hope so, since she would be able to take advantage of the Maryland law (as far as investigations go).

If I hear anything more on this topic, I'll swing back and post an update, ASAP.

that I actually didn't think of until now. Being reported on Fox news means it will get out to those who are most likely to support K (such as the one sitting in the WH). He should be sending out a tweeter storm very soon, and he cannot keep himself from making things worse). The fact of the offer alone suggests a belief in the victim's allegations (whether warranted or not).

I had been gone from this site for quite some time as I needed some personal time, but I remember SD and quite a few others who I trusted back then, including yourself.

As to the other two (actually three at last count) accusations, I really have not kept up with them. I focused on Ford's allegations as they were so credible even before the "hearing." If I get a chance I will do a bit more reading on them, now that we have a week to catch up.

Did Flake get the FBI to investigate Kavanaugh to find the truth? Or are they doing it just to give him and any others cover to vote for him?

One article I read this morning said the FBI is investigating someone who is not already known to them and who might have either information about Kavanaugh or they say that they were assaulted by him. And why limit the scope? If there is going to be an investigation then investigate and see what comes from it.

But I'm going with my first instinct here. Cover.

@snoopydawg

Of course its just a cover. Anybody who watched Kavanaugh's meltdown and did not rule out voting for him is not going to vote against him based on a 1 week FBI investigation, restricted or otherwise. Yesterday's performance showed that the only judgeship he is qualified for is Judge Judy on "reality TV".

And this is even if he isn't a rapist (or whatever you call an attempted rapist).

I know I am. However, I think Sen Flake is an honest player in this. The rest of the Rs, including the T, no.

Limiting the scope basically ties the hands of the FBI so they cannot discover any inconvenient truths. If they talk to someone or ask questions outside of the scope, the White House will not allow that information to go public. Keep in mind that the report goes to the T and he decides what everyone else sees.

then they can start with the people who have already made statements about his testimony. One key point of Ford's testimony was when she named 3 of the people who were at the 'party' when the assault happened. She mentioned Kavanaugh, Judge and PJ plus one other person she doesn't remember. On his calendar of the day in question he has listed Judge and PJ and one other guy.

Why we know Kavanaugh is lying

A few things people are getting caught up on. One. Why did she go to a party with guys who were older than her? She said that she had been swimming and went to a house where people were gathering. This is not a party in the sense people are making it out to be.

Secondly people are asking why she went up the stairs to where the bedroom was. She said she went up there to use the bathroom. Maybe there were more than one and the other was busy or there was only one. Regardless. Using a bathroom isn't asking to be assaulted. I'm getting this from Twitter. It's simply amazing how so many women are saying that she is lying.

Read the article and see who you think wasn't telling the truth.

As I've stated. I don't know if he did indeed assault her or not. But there was plenty of other reasons why he shouldn't be confirmed. He looks like he perjured himself and then there's the things he did during the Bush administration that he denied doing. The hearing was a joke by the republicans because they have already made up their minds on him and because of the stupid structure of how the questioning went. The republicans hid behind the woman who asked Ford questions. Why didn't they let her ask him the same way?

so far. Looks good so far.

The point of my "essay" was that the FBI has been locked in a cage regarding what questions and who they can ask questions of. That is the problem with getting any actual facts. Let's say that they find the unknown guy and he states that (before she came down stairs) there was a fifth person there. The FBI might not be able to talk to this person due to the restrictions put on them by the T.

Good thing I read your comment twice. At first those sounded like your questions. Amazing how many people must have been born full grown without ever having had to go through the teenage years. That is why they can overlook the obvious answers. Hmmm, or it could be guilty conscience.

I do believe her, for my own personal reasons. I am sure my dislike of him even before the allegations came out hasn't helped, but I did listen to both before landing.

Yes, there is proof that he perjured himself on numerous occasions and on at least two different subjects.

Because it was THEIR circus and they were going to run it THEIR way!

The Senate has only said that supplemental FBI background investigation "be limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today."

The article I posted could show that he did lie about assaulting her. It depends on who they talk to about it. The article you posted says that they are limited to who they can talk to. One of them should be Judge because for one thing he was supposedly at the party and two he was involved according to Ford. One conversation could lead them to others who might have some information about what happened then. I'm just saying that it's possible to prove that it happened. And if they talk to the right person then they could find out that he lied to the senators who questioned him. This article makes a good case that he did. . So it might not be her accusation that takes him down it might be the fact that he lied to congress. Again.

Here's what we can look forward to when he's confirmed. It will be interesting to learn why it was so important for him to be on the court. Could the SC decide that it's illegal for people to go out on strike or to protest against environmental destruction? Or .... ?

The White House gave the FBI a list of people they are permitted to question. Any new person with information is not included.

Yes, the SC can have an effect on those examples. The main reason K was picked (he was not on the original short list) is because he has written extensively on the powers of the president (pretty much unlimited) and on his opinion that a president cannot be indited.

Can someone tell me?

What kind of evidence can be found regarding Ford at this time?

IMO, investigations should not be used as a political tool, and it's becoming the main MO for both parties. Media and law enforcement are too powerful a duo and lack the ethics and trust required to resolve any political issue. YMMV.

Do you think someone trained to help you remember an incident that you think you had forgotten will just let it go at "I don't remember"?

The brain tends to link things in a manner that a trained person such as a person trained in psychotherapy can follow better than a person could do on their own. That is not saying that the FBI people are infallible trackers of information, but they are trained for this type of thing.

There are some people who may be hiding information who don't need their memories probed but their honesty.

The type of information they will be looking for is anything that provides facts around the times of the incident(s).

I agree that this should not be a political tool in this case; however, many investigations themselves involve people in the political world. As for the media, it is certainly not what it is supposed to be and that comes from the government allowing only six corporations to own all the main stream outlets.

Edit: By the way, hamstringing the investigation does not bode well for the FBI being able to do what they are trained for.
