Once upon a time the people of a South American nation elected a Marxist president against the wishes of the US ruling elites.
This was that man, Salvador Allende,
and this was Chile
Naturally, the US immediately began to try to destabilize Chile and destroy its economy, but to no immediate avail.
Then these two war criminals conspired to bring Allende down.
Over 40,000 Chileans were captured and tortured
3,065 Chileans are known to have been killed or disappeared
Roughly 200,000 Chileans were driven into exile
Initially the sweep was so vast and sudden that the Estadio Nacional de Chile was used as a detention and torture center.
Victor Jara was among those tortured and killed there.
This was Victor Jara
This too --
For just one brief moment think about it
THIS is "9-11" beyond our borders
Just think about it.

Masquerading the GWOT
The imperialists have been at it for at least 45 years, IIRC. Capitalist sponsored military interventions against socialist nations cloaked in freedom and democracy is getting so damn old. Thinking people get it. It's a dirty, rotten game. What did Smedley Butler say back in 1935 in War is a Racket which is still not true today?
question everything
Good morning, QMS. What can one say?
The greatest proof that this nation is and always has been an oligarchy, and not a democracy, lies in these wars and proxy wars, the invasions and occupations for as far back as the eye can see. All of them done without the people's informed consent, because they dare not truthfully tell us what they are up to and why.
Thanks for reading.

And so began Chile's experiment with Neoliberalism.
Free-market economists were sent in to supervise the deregulation, privatization, tax-cuts and austerity that are the hallmarks of the Neoliberal project.
Alas, mass political repression was required to force these measures through but I'm sure the Chilean people were grateful for our help.
We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Good morning, Az. Yep, and after all those years of neoliberal
economic magic it is the 5th richest nation in the world, right? Hmmm, seems maybe not, I wonder what went wrong? It works so well in theory (not).

Chile was a laboratory test.
Make the economy scream. A constant barrage of propaganda. Create a psychological environment of chaos and fear.
RIP social democracy.
Good orning, levymg. That was probably part of it, plus
several motives and agenda items.

So when comes a report that Trump “committed suicide” in the WH?
“The chief executive had been feeling increasingly cornered and depressed because of the various investigations closing in,” blah blah blah.
Death of Chile’s President Salvador Allende “may not have been suicide”
c99 seem to be one of the few gatherings of progressives left where people aren’t suddenly big fans of the “intelligence community” and the FISA court, and aren’t rooting for the CIA.
Heh, good afternoon, lol. Not only fans of the CIA, FBI and
the rest of the alphabet soup, but buying into their narrative and treating their utterances as if they were remotely credible. It's beyond crazy, by any definition.

Words by British poet Adrian Mitchell.

Thanks, Bisbonian, that is a really great song.
