Alcohol and marijuana, if used in moderation, plus loud, usually low-class music, make stress and boredom infinitely more bearable.
- Kurt Vonnegut -

Whoa, reentry has been bumpy. The wonderment of a wake and bake followed by an excursion has given way to lethargy. The days are without purpose and procrastination rules.

Slowly, I have been summoning the motivation to move the boulder.

During home hospice, the spiritual guide related a story about a man who followed a similar grieving path, and unexpectedly burnt out after a trip. I can relate, I think it is mostly mental, but requires conscious effort to overcome.

I am still getting around to figuring out how to process pictures, getting to the gym regularly, napping less, washing the motorcycle and getting out of the house more.

Low motivation levels could be influenced by changes in atmospheric conditions between North Carolina and Colorado.

Talkin' is not getting it, and I need to let loose.

Have a great weekend! The thread is OPEN.

@NCTim
This wasn’t a great day for me — had trouble with the hot weather, dehydration, and joint pain. Friends had to let me recuperate on their couch and later cool off in an inflatable pool in their Schrebergarten (garden plot).

Ageing . . . (mutter, grumble)

Well, the cast came off yesterday only to be replaced by a walking boot that I'm not allowed to walk in for four weeks. So life will remain on my scooter to get around. The walking boot is a new element I must get used to, as I have to sleep in it as well. I got used to the cast, I'll get used to this, in time. Four more weeks of my life will be worth it as I need my feet for walking the rest of my life. Ah, perspective.

Take your time in what you do and decisions you make. Nothing happens before its time, so hang in there.

Have a beautiful day and weekend, everyone! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann I am convinced it is all about attitude. I see so many of my contemporaries diminished by negativity/giving up/despair. It seems to me, aging is accelerated by a negative outlook. Pain is a huge negative inducement, and a necessary step to recovery. I am a goal setter, so I would be thinking something like" "I need to be walking eighteen minute miles by Columbus Day".

It's the little things. I've been struggling to get back to the routine and mundane. This month's Vintage Guitar was in Wednesday's mail. It is one of my favorite places to learn of newly released music.

@NCTim Neil Young with a Telecaster? I don't recall ever seeing that. He almost always has the black Les Paul, with the Bigsby. The tonal differences are fascinating. The Telecaster rings and is articulate. The Les Paul roars and growls.

I’m working on a few goals for the time I have my feet back. For example:
Starting yoga one day a week, begin swimming twice a week, walk up to 5K by December, hike my favorite 11 mile trail by my one year “foot-break” anniversary in April.

Pretty good for starters. AND, I agree, attitude is everything! I’ve always been an optimistic person, so no funkin’ moods for me.

Take your time finding your stride now that you’re home - you don’t want to miss something whizzing past you. Wink

You sound like you are slowly recovering from your soul mate's passing. She would be smiling over that good news. You know, I went to college with people from the Jacksonville-Daytona Beach area who knew members of the Allmans. Duane has very few equals in playing the guitar. He was beyond incredible on pedal steel, too. One of their greatest tunes. Smile

The Queen of Soul (Fine) passed away yesterday. She was born to sing...and how!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend. You all stay safe! Rec'd!!

@orlbucfan This edition is all "new" Allman Brothers I have had several lively discussions about the relative merits of the old versus the new Allman Brothers. One of my Jazzfest buddies agreed to disagree. He is a lemming and subscribes to Fillmore East being the best Allman Brothers. I think the Beacon Theater set, the album with the first two and fifth video. Is their best. It is the Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks lineup. Well played and recorded well.

Like I was saying to RA, new batches of music provided stimulation this week. The Allmans have recently released a trove of live stuff. What's not to like?

Not officially "classical?" He didn't seem that narrow-minded, but I never met him outside his works.

Anyway, Mr. NCTim, people have often told me that I am too hard on myself; and I think I recognize that phenomenon in your OP. You no longer report to an employer; your kids are grown; you have done a lot of things in your life and during the past year or so.

So, you're having some down time now. So the hell what? Put on some music, get a nice bottle of your favorite beverage, close your eyes and relax. You're allowed. Be kinder and gentler to yourself. You've more than earned it.

@HenryAWallace Losing ground on my work out regimen and being sedentary. During the motorcycle trip, I had a hydration scheme that had me drinking an quart of Nuun water around dinner time, followed by baking and then out to the town's brew pub. Since I arrived back home, I discontinued the hydration program, but have gone through a joint pain, a sinus issues and a sore throat. I am not sure of the root cause and suspect it is a combination of factors. Luckily, the trip facilitated procuring some medicine.

--- Grape harvest season kicks off on North Coast

August 15, 2018
Harvest kicked off early Wednesday in Sonoma and Napa counties, where workers fanned out in the cool, pre-dawn darkness to begin retrieving the region’s prized grape crop and transform it into some of the most coveted wines in the world.

The first grapes mark the beginning of the busiest time of year in Wine Country. Workers will toil around the clock over the next 10 weeks to pick, crush and ferment the 2018 vintage, which took longer to ripen this summer, compared to other recent crops, but is expected to be equally as bountiful.

Work crews were out around 2 a.m. at the Kiser Vineyard just south of Sonoma along Highway 12 to pick a five-acre parcel dedicated to pinot noir grapes. Seven hours later, the fruit was trucked over to the nearby Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards, where it was pressed into juice that will go into sparkling wine. Those bottles will be on store shelves in 2021.

If you can't beat 'em, you might as well prost!

@eyo But Haze works fine. I was somewhat surprised that CA has so little development of their recreational market place. Not like CO, where everything is out in the open.

During the motorcycle ride, I made a point of staying near micro-breweries. Hello to everyone @ High Alpine Brewing, Avalanche Brewing, Moab Brewery, Steamworks Brewing, Mammoth Brewing, Southgate Brewing and WildEdge Brewing. Thanks to all the bar and bud tenders along the way.

@NCTim TGIF, it's funny what comes up on my web searches today, I was poking around for signs of censorship and saw this on first page: Why is C99 sooo talked about?
The real c99 twitter page was seventh from the top I think. Web search returns more advertisements than information, that's a problem. I am ready for a pumpkin carriage.

What is Cinderella 99?

Cinderella 99, otherwise known as C99, or simply “Cindy,” is a sativa-dominant hybrid bred by Mr. Soul of Brothers Grimm. She’s best known for her potent cerebral high, sweet fruity flavors, and epic yields. According to Mr. Soul, C99 was created using seeds found in a Sensi branded 2 gram package of Jack Herer purchased at an Amsterdam coffee shop. Cinderella 99 is very popular with indoor growers because of its short, bushy stature, high yields, short flowering time, and high THC content (up to 23%). Cindy’s effects are usually described as dreamy, euphoric, and uplifting.

Parent was Jack Herer, perfect medicine for me! This endocannabinoid system likes cannabis sativa.

but Groucho was the only one in that montage who made me smile reflexively. However, he famously would never belong to any club that would have him as a member, so, alas, being a huge fan of his would not have won me any points with him.

Had a bad evening last night. Wonderful world of Paranoia being confirmed really sent me down a self-destructive rabbit hole. Not a good thing and thank you to my SO for being there for me.

On the plus side, managed to get one of my RL friends to read my work this morning, because even though they followed me on twitter they didn't see it until I DIRECTLY messaged them to share the link.

I do not need my email and Social Media to gaslight me that Nobody likes me or my work. I'm not as stupid as I look.

@detroitmechworks It is important not to grant outsiders too much influence. Don't let them put you in a box. Your mission is to care for yourself and those closest to you. Peripheral people are like comets zooming into and out of your solar system. Rock on.

Waking up to images and imaginings of teleology as a driver of existential ennui. All of our lives we are continuously bathed in messages about sets of purposes and goals and if that veil falls away for a moment, whether triggered by life's vicissitudes or triumphs, the presence of new horizons is distorted by that cultural lens into an absence of anything and everything. It is too early in the morning for this, my friend.

The days are without purpose and procrastination rules.

BTW - I have a fundraiser posted later today, my apologies for crashing the party and distracting from your OT, but I won't be around this weekend, and when I get back, I face terror: an update for my OS is available, which is a good thing, but I run a lot of non-standard stuff, which isn't. Will my preferred editor and all the uncompleted drafts and such stored therein survive, for example? Of such trivia is life sometimes made.

But, it is still early here, and I need breakfast, so just remember Buckaroo's dictum and keep on keeping on.

Ah yes, thanks for the tunes.

@enhydra lutris I was a controls engineer. Corporate IT is structured for business measuring and monitoring The standard corporate computer setup would funk everything up, plus they shove updates when you log onto the network. I worked on some sensitive stuff and had to use encryption, VPN, authentication apps, ... Sending encrypted emails and logging onto secure file sharing sites always got hosed by OS updates. Good luck. I have some left over pizza, in the oven. Then, I am going to the gym. Really, I am going to go. I mean it. Pretty soon.
