Are you a Russiagate traitor?

Russiagate may technically be about Trump, but in fact most of the "traitors" and Putin Puppets are progressives on the left.

Russiagate officially started in 2015 long before the DNC hack and the Democratic primaries.

From:brentbbi@webtv.net To: john.podesta@gmail.com Date: 2015-12-21 12:09

Best approach is to slaughter Donald for his bromance with Putin

Russiagate never was actually about Russia.
It's the Democrats' version of Obama's birth certificate. As Caitlin Johnstone puts it, Russiagate is 9/11 minus 9/11.
russia_4.jpg
In reality, Russiagate started with Ralph Nader and the 2000 election.

They said a vote for Nader was a vote for Bush. You have a moral duty to vote for the Democrat and to be pragmatic. Your Naderite purity came at the expense of the poor. Only affluent selfish white guys could afford this type of virtue signaling. In fact, maybe some of these people were really Republicans in disguise. There were no Russian bots to blame just yet, but clearly some liberals are unable to imagine good faith criticism of Democrats coming from the left.

The terms “ virtue signaling”, “ purity pony”, and of course “White Berniebro” weren’t coined yet, but the the stereotype they describe was formed in 2000. Gore lost and Nader and all his voters, in swing states or not, were vilified. They were worse than Republicans. They were traitors. Of all the factors that caused Gore’s loss, the only one that Democratic partisans really cared about was Nader.

People that voted for Nader became responsible for the Iraq War, while Democrats who voted for Bush and the Iraq War got a free pass.
Liberals, besides their obvious double-standards when allocating responsibility, made the dubious claim that morality requires being pragmatic in your voting. And then, as if to prove the basis of their claims to be false, they approach their target audience in a non-pragmatic way.

The anger on open display is the opposite of pragmatic politics. They don’t try to persuade people to vote for the Democrat. They demand it. It is a moral litmus test, or rather, a judgement of one’s very soul. Good people know they have to vote for the Democrat. Bad people vote for Republicans and the very worst people of all claim to be left, but vote for Stein or maybe even voted for Clinton, but criticized her. Democratic partisans have no interest in what you say about an issue if they perceive it as in any way an attack or a criticism of a Democrat. If you are a third party advocate you can forget about being taken seriously on any issue because you have already self identified as a Satanist and you need to be exorcised from the body politic. Even if you say you support the Democrat as the lesser evil, you speak as one of the damned and deserve no mercy. Sanders played the game in 2016 exactly the way people said Nader should have played it and he and his supporters were still dismissed.

Like Nader before her, Stein is the absolute worst traitor of all. Worse than Trump himself.

Maddow cast suspicion on Stein’s silence over alleged Russian attempts to interfere with the election to benefit Donald Trump, who she claimed during her own campaign would govern no differently than Hillary Clinton.

“So everybody’s like, ‘Wow, how come this like super, super aggressive opposition that we saw from these third-party candidates — how come they haven’t said anything since this scandal has broken?’” Maddow said.

“I don’t know, Jill — I can’t pronounce it in Russian,” Maddow said, with apparent sarcasm.

Bernie Sanders, OTOH, did everything he was told he should do.
He supported the Democratic establishment candidate, and believed the Russiagate story.

However, Sanders had already committed the unforgivable sin of criticizing the Democratic establishment candidate from the left. There is simply no way of coming back from that treason.

Despite his stance, Sanders has also been constantly presented as another Russian agent, with the Washington Post (11/12/17) asking its readers, “When Russia interferes with the 2020 election on behalf of Democratic nominee Bernie Sanders, how will liberals respond?” The message is clear: The progressive wave rising across America is and will be a consequence of Russia, not of the failures of the system, nor of the Democrats.

It isn't just progressive politicians that are all traitors.
Movements like Black Lives Matter are also traitors for Russia.

Slate: Russian Trolls Were Obsessed With Black Lives Matter
CNN: Her son was killed — then came the Russian trolls
NY Times: The Propaganda Tools Used by Russians to Influence the 2016 Election

If you are still confused about what is treason and what isn't, ask yourself the question: Does the issue advance the narrative that the Democratic Party is a force for absolute good?

We still have the 2018 election, and then the long lead-up to the 2020 election.
There is nothing to indicate that the rhetoric won't get a lot more insane. The general indifference of the public doesn't seem to discourage the media and pundits.
So how will it likely look in Fall 2020? Probably like it looked in 1952.

The purpose of advancing the Communist issue was not to fix the Communist problem — it was to exploit that problem for political and ideological advantage. That is how the Republican Party could produce its unhinged 1952 platform, which charged that the Democrats “have shielded traitors to the Nation in high places,” “work unceasingly to achieve their goal of national socialism,” and “by a long succession of vicious acts, so undermined the foundations of our Republic as to threaten its existence.” (Does that kind of talk strike you as overheated? Then you, too, are failing to take the Russia issue seriously.)

There is little to no danger for conservatives and Republicans. All of the danger is for progressives and socialists, and the angry mob is the Democratic establishment trying to silence left-wing ideas.
In comparison, the danger of the GOP to the left-wing is trivial.

I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that people keep posting it as common knowledge and factual -- especially on this site. Old dkos habits are hard to break, I guess.

The speed at which the files were STOLEN prove it was done from within the network. Not from Russia, or from a van parked down the street. I can only guess that the DNC can't reveal whose network account was used to do so, because it would blow the bullshit lie of a hack out of the water.

There was NO hack.

Facts matter to me. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. Did it matter to know whether Bengazi happened because of a movie, or something much more nefarious, and that we very well may have not only caused the deaths of Syrians with sarin gas, but that Bengazi likely happened to cover up where we got the gas?

And yes, we learned from what was published, but it does matter. I automatically question what people say once I've realized they don't care about the truth. It's disturbing, to say the least. Eyes wide open now. Thanks.

in it. This is the point that matters to me. Assange has stated that the emails didn't come from Russia. Craig Murray said that he was involved with the person who got the information from the DNC computers and that there was no connection to Russia.

The CIAs Vault 7 shows how evidence on computers can be manipulated to make it seem like someone's dawg did the deed. I think it'd be very sloppy for trained hackers to leave their own footprints on the scene don't you think?

Finally there's the meeting that Assange's lawyer set up with congress for him to testify to congress and tell them where he got the DNC emails that showed how they rigged the primary. Comey and Schaffer shot that down because it would have killed Russia Gate. Dead and buried and the country could move on.

This story has two levels and that may be why we are debating whether or not it was a leak or a hack. The first level of this story is the road by which theleaks/hacks traveled to Wikileaks. When the leaks/hacks first came out, the path by which they were made known was irrelevant to most of us because the most relevant thing about them to most discerning people is their content which revealed the an unprecedented depth of corruption in the Democratic party and the Clinton campaign.

However, as a form of damage control and now as an excuse for Hillary's loss to the Orange one, they have created a controversy accusing Russia of meddling in the election. While I personally believe that they were leaks of some sort, probably from more than one party, that narrative serves no purpose in promoting the Russia narrative.

@divineorder No, we don't have shit for proof either way.

We have a technical fact for proof. Until that fact is discredited, by someone I trust--like Bill Binney, for instance--that fact stands.

Somebody saying that he disproved it or managed to cast doubt on it is worth exactly nothing unless he explains in technical terms to a trustworthy actor who is capable of understanding those terms exactly how he disproved it or why it is now doubtful.

There's no need to use the word shill; there is plenty of reason to hold a hard line on the question of fact-based analysis.

One can also say, of course, that the most important issue here is that telling the truth is not a crime, and it certainly isn't election fraud or improper interference or whatever the lingo is these days.

@Deja

As we noted at the time, The Nation story relied heavily on the allegation the stolen files must have been copied locally to USB by a DNC insider because, as The Nation claimed, "no Internet service provider was capable of downloading data at this speed" (22.7 megabytes per second). In reality, 22.7 megabytes per second was simply a 180 Mbps connection, widely available around the world at the time the DNC hack took place. That includes Romania, the country that the Russian cutout Guccifer 2.0 pretended (at the time) to have originated from.

We weren't alone in pointing out that the story was flimsy, relied largely on cherry-picked evidence, and frequently stumbled into the realm of the "incoherent." And it's only gone downhill since. The Nation was forced to review the report, adding a meandering preamble to address criticism. In the year since, reports have forged a new infosec community consensus that yes, Guccifer 2.0 was GRU, and had been amusingly caught because Russian intelligence forgot to activate its VPN before logging into the bogus persona's WordPress site on one occasion (one of several opsec errors made by Russian intel).

But at the time, any reporter that dared report on the emerging links between Russia and the hack were quickly smeared by a website custom built to try and downplay any Russian connection. The creator of the website went by the name of Adam Carter, who was broadly cited as a respected "independent researcher" in The Nation and other unskeptical reports. Carter's website, a collection of half-cooked straw men and conspiratorial faux-technical nonsense, also took time to go after Techdirt, claiming our pretty rudimentary analysis of the theory's principle error was "pedantic, sleazy & condescending" (thank you).

Fast forward to this week, and a new Computer Weekly report notes that Carter wasn't much of an intelligence expert or "researcher" at all. He was, according to infosec reporter Duncan Campbell, a British IT manager and shitposter from Darlington, working in concert with U.S. trolls on a widespread online disinformation effort to downplay and discredit any and every connection between the DNC attack and Russia:

Opinion: On The Latest Establishment Attack Launched Against WikiLeaks, Independent Media

Early yesterday, journalist Duncan Campbell published an inaccurate, deceptive smear piece which doxxed independent journalist Adam Carter, while also misrepresenting the findings of members of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, the Forensicator, and me.

In the wake of the hit-piece, Adam Carter has publicly stated that he is considering taking legal action due to the libelous material contained in Campbell’s work. Over the coming days and weeks, Disobedient Media will likely publish multiple articles addressing the issue. However, this initial response is dedicated to placing the character assassination attempt firmly into the context in which it belongs: as part of the larger picture surrounding WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, Russiagate, and the establishment’s desperate attempts to prevent the latter from falling apart.

First: What might have provoked Campbell to publish such a long-winded, factually baseless attack at this particular time?

Campbell lied misrepresented what Binney stated about how the DNC computer information was taken from the computers.

Campbell: A month after visiting CIA headquarters, Binney came to Britain. After re-examining the data in Guccifer 2.0 files thoroughly with the author of this article, Binney changed his mind. He said there was “no evidence to prove where the download/copy was done”. The Guccifer 2.0 files analysed by Leonard’s g-2.space were “manipulated”, he said, and a “fabrication”.

Binney told us that he stands by the assessment made in the VIPS memorandum to President Trump, published last year. He told us that Duncan misrepresented his statements describing Guccifer 2.0 as a fabrication. While speaking with us, Binney utterly refuted Campbell’s dishonest portrayal of Binney having changed his stance on the issue.

Binney told this author that he referred specifically to Guccifer 2.0 as a fabrication, adding that it doesn’t matter where the information was downloaded, or when, or that the information was manipulated, because the point is that it was not hacked, and the who/where does not alter that fact. He said that Guccifer 2.0 was: “Clearly a fabrication, a fake, put out there to confuse. Timing is irrelevant, fake is fake. You can manipulate timing, you can change anything, but it doesn’t matter. It makes no difference.”

He added: “We [VIPS members] were calling it fake from the beginning, and we still do.”

Binney added: “We [VIPS members] were calling it fake from the beginning, and we still do.”

"We agreed it was a download, not a hack, the whole thing was a set up – we can’t prove who is responsible or where they were located, but that is irrelevant because it was still a download, not a hack, which tells us that the Guccifer 2.0 persona was a fabrication.” He added that Julian Assange and Craig Murray can prove the origin of the information, and that both have stated clearly that the Russian state was not their source.

Binney stated that he found Duncan’s article to be “long and confusing”, lacking in evidence, adding that he prefers a “Nice, clear argument, with lots of evidence.” Binney explained to Disobedient Media that he also took issue with Duncan’s presentation of the Mueller indictments, and with the vicious doxxing of Adam Carter in what he called “Some vague attempt to suggest that Carter is an agent of the Russians.”

Binney reminded this writer that if a hack had occurred, the NSA would have been able to show not only that the intrusion took place, but who was responsible, and where the information was sent. Binney stated that the lack of such evidence having been produced by the NSA, especially the inability to prove that hacked information was ever sent to WikiLeaks, may have played a role in the NSA’s lukewarm “moderate” confidence in Russian interference, in comparison with the CIA and FBI’s confidence in the matter. Binney added that in this case, the only agency whose opinion matters is the NSA’s.

I'm with Lisa Page: There's no there there in regards to the charge that Trump colluded with Putin on the election. I take that to mean that Russia Gate is the latest propaganda plot by the intelligence agencies in a long line of them. Who then are the real puppets in this stupid Russia Russia Russia crap.

but it offers an important lesson. If I hadn't then those of us here might have given the article you posted more weight. I wondered if I should rethink what VIPS had stated about how the DNC info got to Wikileaks. I still believed what Assange and Murray said about it, but Wendy has also been questioning whether Binney or Drake had changed their minds.

On whether it's important to know if a leak or a hack happened I think it is because it changes the narrative on Russia Gate. Most people who believe in Russia Gate accept the intelligence agencies' words that it was a hack and those of us who don't believe them think that it was leaked.

But I do agree with you that it is the content of the information that is important. Wikileaks told Hillary that in a few days they were going to release the DNC information and that's when she and Podesta cooked up the plan to blame it on Russia so that people wouldn't focus on the content.

BTW. I meant to thank you for this essay. The link for when Russia Gate started goes to a Wikileaks page and a great exchange for how Hillary should handle ISIS and the Syria war. I wanted to excerpt some of it, but it was kinda off topic. But I've bookmarked it.

i can't say i was encouraged to make a shell of diary to let others far more versed in IT and analysis at C99% than i by what was offered on that thread, and i'm glad we've heard from binney in absentia now. but i will offer: that as far as The Truth goes, that seems to be up to analysis and 'facts presented' (either biased or misunderstood), which even the VIPS had seemed to disagree on 'the facts', thus can be a bit of a moveable feast.

i was willing to crowd-source it all here in search of Closer to the Truth was all.

You've thrown a wide net, which has yielded several issues that remain unresolved until now. These issues are festering in the gut of this nation, sickening it. Killing it.

gjohnsit, when those emails were released, what mattered completely was what they said. The people who had experienced the unthinkable in an election process were able to confirm what they saw with their own eyes. If the emails had never come to light, anyone who dares mention that the 2016 primaries were rigged would be shunned as a conspiracy theorist. That has been the story of this past century and all the times we knew we were betrayed by elements within the government. If we speak of it, we are denounced and marginalized by decree from the top — the hits and assassinations, the false flag attacks on our own soil, the extra-governmental authorities who set the nation's goals and make the big decisions, the missing and unaccounted assets of the nation, and the lies and conspiracies that throw the nation into war deliberately. The People are helpless to demand an accounting because they have no physical proof.

This is why the content matters. ^^^^

This is where Julian Assange stepped into our lives. He came to empower and save us, a people who are too weak and unempowered to save him when his life is in danger. Can we save him from an espionage charge?

This is why the truth matters. ^^^^

He came to help us prevent wars. Can we stop a war with Russia?

This is why the truth matters. ^^^^

The truth is the metadata, it's the DNA of our situation, it is the key that can unlock the power that belongs to We the People. Can we stop a war with Iran and China? Can we stop our onrushing dystopia? Can we stop our rogue government from harming us and the world further?

This is why the truth matters. ^^^^

It matters profoundly. Knowing the facts surrounding critical political events or social earthquakes can be epigenetic events. Hard truths can trigger conscious evolution while we are alive and your advanced gene expressions can be physically inherited, changing the species.

By exercising our own critical thinking and working very hard to see through narratives to the core realities in the universe and in all things — we are physically evolving the species into better and more enlightened generations of humans.

In this case, it is NOT a matter of opinion. It is a matter of FACT. The physical proof that we have right now tells us that the Wikileaks documents did not come from a "hack." We also have physical evidence that someone (no doubt Crowdstrike) manipulated copies of the leaked documents and embedded awkward amateurish evidence to make them look like they were taken by a "Russian" hacker. Here's how we know that:

Assange's diplomatic trip to the US in mid-2017 to testify before Congress and prove where the documents came from was emergency-blocked by Comey and Rosenstein. As a consequence, Assange immediately released the extensive Vault 7 documents to the American people so we could forensically recognize the signature techniques that the US intelligence agencies would use to alter downloaded DNC documents and embed fake Russian "fingerprints." We have seen the physical evidence that that occurred.

The US has no real physical evidence of a Russian hack or they would never have released the fake evidence. Yet they continue their attack to harm Russia's economy and the continue their attempts to provoke a hot war with Russia. The US motive for this has nothing to do with their fake hacking narrative; it is about crippling Russia (and China) to forestall the rapid rise of Eurasia, which is stripping the Neocons and war-profiteering corporations of their dream for the US to achieve total domination over all other nations. The Entitled Elite want their New American Century back! Their Empire was supposed to rule the world....

If that is what your instincts tell you, you should trust them.

It's a biological imperative.

A technical fact must be disproved by disproving its technical basis, not by claiming that people have said things that they haven't and making scurrilous comments about those who have asserted the fact's existence.

The proponents of the hack argument have not produced any solid reliable evidence. The proponents of the leak have. No amount of hatchet jobs can change that.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal

It would be great if we here on c99 continued to hold to the standards of reason, proof and logic on which we based the cite--along with the standards of civility and common decency.

I said in one of my comments that I'm proud of the people here for standing against the return of McCarthyism. I've noticed that it looks like it's the people who supported Bernie are the ones who are not buying into the Russia nonsense and the Hillary and Obama supporters are. I despise the things that Trump is doing, but I see that he is just continuing what the previous presidents had done. But the ones who believe in Russia Gate have much stronger opinions of him and think that his policies are of his own design and something new. DeVos is continuing what Arne Duncan was doing with charter schools, but she is just more aggressive about doing it. Obama did some good things for slowing down climate change, but nothing close to what needed to be done. People are freaking out about the republicans trying to do away with SS, but Obama offered them the grand bargain. He signed legislation that defunded social programs too. Etc, etc, etc.

It's often stated here that people saw the elite's masks start slipping during Obama's tenure and then Bernie ripped more of them off and now Trump, congress and everyone else that runs the country have taken them completely off.

This site is a blue oasis in a desert that is surrounded by propaganda and half truths. Thank gawd it's here for us.

As to this point in your comment:

The US has no real physical evidence of a Russian hack or they would never have released the fake evidence.

The NSA does have evidence of whether Russia or anyone else "hacked" the computers so why hasn't Trump ordered it released if he really wants to prove that it's a witch hunt? He can also make the FBI release the information that they used to get their FISA warrants.

...this is what they are actually talking about:

...why hasn't Trump ordered it released if he really wants to prove that it's a witch hunt? He can also make the FBI release the information that they used to get their FISA warrants.

It's an undisguised threat meant to hold Trump back. But you are right, the NSA is key.

Mueller has been dragging things out and dealing distractions like those half-assed indictments against Russians that will never go anywhere. The troubled investigation has been in stalling mode while the brainwashing has been stepped up. The Intelligence agencies are doubling down on their accusations — still without a stitch of evidence. Facebook and its tech industry cohorts are now proxies for the government's Thought Police, censoring data, stifling topics, and making people a little dumber every day.

In the end, the people will be fuzzy about what actually happened. The best time to get rid of Trump is right after the mid-terms, and I think that's where we are headed. I'm not sure how it will be done but I would be surprised if Trump serves out the full term. He has been thoroughly used. It has always been clear that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives. The Steele dossier — a good example of a real Russian collusion — gives testimony to that. The salient fact remains: Hillary Clinton didn't lose because Russia "meddled in the election." If the US held a do-over election between Hillary and anybody you can think of, Hillary would still lose.

I figure we are living in the footnotes to 9/11. Usama bin Laden said if the US didn't remove its military from the Middle East, America's democracy and its economy would be destroyed. A time would come, he said, when Americans would no longer be free and the doors in or out of the US would be locked. Since our first revenge attack on Afghanistan (of all the empire-destroying places), the US has been a zombie lurching around on the world stage, looking for brainzzz and never finding them.

It is the American people who should be deciding the political future of our country, not Mr. Putin and the Russian oligarchs.

Hey, Bernie. The American people were the ones who should have decided who won the primary, not Hillary, the DNC and the delegates. That you are blaming Her loss on Russia instead of admitting that the American people rejected her makes you nothing more than a democratic puppet. How embarrassing for you.

Every Black voter should abandon the DP until they apologize for their disrespect for the BLM and saying that they only started protesting cops killing Blacks because Russia manipulated them into doing so.

US Intelligence Community is Tearing the Country Apart from the

The objective of US intelligence is to suck all remaining wealth out of the US and its allies and pocket as much of it as possible while pretending to defend it from phantom aggressors by squandering nonexistent (borrowed) financial resources on ineffective and overpriced military operations and weapons systems. Where the aggressors are not phantom, they are specially organized for the purpose of having someone to fight: “moderate” terrorists and so on.
....
the US intelligence community has been doing a wonderful job of bankrupting the country and driving it toward financial, economic and political collapse by forcing it to engage in an endless series of expensive and futile conflicts—the largest single continuous act of grand larceny the world has ever known. How that can possibly be an intelligent thing to do to your
own country, for any conceivable definition of “intelligence,” I will leave for you to work out for yourself. While you are at it, you might also want to come up with an improved definition of “treason”: something better than “a skeptical attitude toward preposterous, unproven claims made by those known to be perpetual liars.

And let's not forget how many coups and false flag events they had a hand in creating that have cost so much misery and death.

One major advancement in their state of the art has been in moving from real false flag operations, à la 9/11, to fake false flag operations, à la fake East Gouta chemical attack in Syria (since fully discredited). The Russian election meddling story is perhaps the final step in this evolution: no New York skyscrapers or Syrian children were harmed in the process of concocting this fake narrative, and it can be kept alive seemingly forever purely through the furious effort of numerous flapping lips. It is now a pure confidence scam. If you are less then impressed with their invented narratives, then you are a conspiracy theorist or, in the latest revision, a traitor.

The real puppets are the ones who believe in this silly story that Russia is pulling Trump's strings and that the GOP are also Russian puppets. Good grief!

Yup. Dan Coates directory of national intelligence came out and accused Russsia of engaging in a "messaging compaign". So how does one stop this messaging campaign. Well, back in the day, the answer was to answer bad speech with more and better speech.

Well, with Russiagate both the media and dem/gop establishment have to come to demand censorship from the major social media platforms. And they have responded. At first they actually didn't and thought the Russia charges were trivial. Until that is, they were theatened by House and Senate reps. And then they hopped to it.

And just a number of days ago, Facebook proudly announced they took down some nefarious pages who seemed to be engaging in a message campaign. And turns out they shut down a real group organizing an anti-fascist rally. There are other examples like this.

The censorship will continue becoming more and more brazen. (BTW, youtube started ths process earlier demonitizing and hurting a lot of popular, but alternative voices.)

as well as every other person in Trump's administration that is working against him. This is insubordination and if Trump continues to let them run their mouths then I believe that he is in on this scam and is playing along with it. Why? Look at what has been happening since he became president. From the increasing Russian sanctions to the internet censorship to the increased military budget with money that goes to fighting cyber warfare and many other things that are being done because of this new and improved false flag.

As you stated YouTube has been removing lots of videos, Facebook and Twitter have been censoring alternative media sites that are not playing along with Russia Gate and Google changed its algorithms so that traffic to those sites are down up to 90% according to WSWS.

I once thought that this would eventually be exposed for the scam it is, but not any more. It's here to stay. And just like in 1984 where there was that place where history was changed to fit the narrative of the day, we are seeing that here. Things that happened last decade are being blamed on Russia hacking. I wouldn't be surprised if the KKK and Jim Crow were blamed on Russia. This is how out of control it's gotten. @MrWebster

This is one of the reasons for the Russiaphobia or should I say gifts?

The Media Is Giving Facebook a Free Pass to Shut Down Activists Over Russia Fears

Facebook announced July 31 that, in a bid to stave off Russian influence in U.S. elections, the company had unilaterally “removed 32 Pages and accounts from Facebook and Instagram because they were involved in coordinated inauthentic behavior.” Yet at least one U.S.-based activist coalition says it was targeted, raising questions about the intent and execution of this new policy.

But instead of interrogating the latest move from the $170-billion-dollar company—arguably the largest and most powerful media organization that has ever existed—press outlets dutifully ran with Facebook’s claims, churning out headlines warning that U.S. voters are being targeted and amplifying the company’s insinuation that Russia is “probably” involved. As a result, Facebook is almost entirely able to control the narrative about its own self-regulation, as it continues to dodge meaningful external oversight and—most troublingly—privately determine the parameters of acceptable political speech.

Low standard for fact checking

“Facebook Identifies an Active Political Influence Campaign Using Fake Accounts,” reads a breathless New York Times headline published July 31. The article goes on to insinuate, offering no concrete evidence, that Russia is behind the attack:

The company did not definitively link the campaign to Russia. But Facebook officials said some of the tools and techniques used by the accounts were similar to those used by the Internet Research Agency, the Kremlin-linked group that was at the center of an indictment this year alleging interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The “newspaper of record” was not alone. The Washington Post story that ran July 31 regurgitated the company’s framing, with the headline, “Facebook says it has uncovered a coordinated disinformation operation ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.” And a July 31 Vox article leaves the reader all but certain of Russia’s involvement: Facebook isn’t sure if it’s Russia, but it looks a lot like what Russia did in 2016.”/blockquote>

Here it is again. Headlines that say something definitive, but inside the articles there's just innuendos and no evidence of what the headline states. Will people click on the article because of the headline and then see that the information inside the article doesn't come close to what was stated? Hell no. People whose minds are already made up about something will disregard any information that doesn't fit with their made up minds. I've seen diarists on DK write a headline and then just disregard the facts in the article. Not once have I seen anyone call them out on it.

This type of action is why people are still repeating that All 17 Intelligence Agencies Agree That Russia Interfered With The Election.

We keep getting fed propaganda because it works. It's this simple. Except for those of us here that have seen through it. Be proud of this.

ETA. Not sure why my writing ended up as blockquoted.

And I write "pro-war" and not "anti-Russian". One cannot be anti-Russian in any moderate way. Being anti-Russian means supporting a harsh and aggressive military stance toward their nation. The Russians are after all destroying Western civilization and this cannot be meant with diplomacy.

@divineorder

There were enough democrats who voted for it to give her cover to not do so.

Speaking of Kampala Harris. Here's what she has to say about identity politics.

Harris blasts critics of 'identity politics'

NEW ORLEANS — Sen. Kamala Harris accused critics of “identity politics” of weaponizing the term to diminish issues of race, gender and sexual orientation, pressing Democrats on Friday to address those issues head on.

“I have a problem, guys, with that phrase, ‘identity politics,’” Harris told the progressive gathering Netroots Nation, wading into a messaging debate roiling Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. “Because let’s be clear, when people say that, it’s a pejorative. That phrase is used to divide, and it is used to distract. Its purpose is to minimize and marginalize issues that impact all of us. It is used to try and shut us up.”

Harris, one of the Democratic Party’s top 2020 presidential prospects, said Democrats “won’t be shut up, and we won’t be silenced.”

“These issues that they’re trying to diminish and demean,” she added, “are the very issues that will define our identity as Americans.”

Harris’ remarks follow criticism — including from some within the Democratic Party — that a full-throated embrace of racial, ethnic and gender issues could distract from a broader Democratic platform.

Oh Kampala. You are echoing Herheinous about this issue. Her asked people if breaking up the big banks would end racism? Of course it wouldn't, but they should be broken up anyway because they keep committing fraud. Ending racism isn't going to do a damn thing for people who are going to get screwed if the banks trigger another economic crisis. I don't understand why people can't see that the democrats can walk and chew gum at the same time.

@snoopydawg to keep their homes. (LA Times PLONK alert, sorry europe)
I think Kamala Harris is the evil epitome of California shit hole politics, a world burning craven tool of cronyism.

Aug 03, 2018

From 2010 to 2015, amid the recovery from the housing bust that caused millions of Americans to lose their homes, the bank made miscalculations when determining whether borrowers qualified for loan modifications.

That led the San Francisco bank to improperly deny modifications to 625 borrowers in the foreclosure process. The bank eventually completed foreclosure on about 400 of them, according to Friday’s filing — a revelation that could spark fresh anger over the bank’s practices.

The bank said it has set aside $8 million to compensate customers, which works out to an average of $12,800 per borrower. Wells Fargo spokesman Tom Goyda said the bank has not disclosed how much individual borrowers will get.

June 2018: More problems for Wells Fargo bank customers, including double charges
First Harris, now Bacerra. Why should WF change if they keep getting let off with small fines for criminal activity? Harris is a brand herself, she should not talk about identity politics with her background, and how she was promoted up through the corrupt D-Machine in California. Awful.

who illegally foreclosed on thousands of people's homes in California, but she let him off. It might have had something to with the money that he donated to her senate campaign. This will come back to bite her when she runs for president.

KAMALA HARRIS FAILS TO EXPLAIN WHY SHE DIDN’T PROSECUTE STEVEN MNUCHIN’S BANK

Mnuchin is Donald Trump’s nominee to run the Treasury Department, and served as CEO of OneWest from 2009 to 2015. In an internal memo published on Tuesday by The Intercept, prosecutors at the California attorney general’s office said they had found over a thousand violations of foreclosure laws by his bank during that time, and predicted that further investigation would uncover many thousands more.

But the investigation into what the memo called “widespread misconduct” was closed after Harris’s office declined to file a civil enforcement action against the bank.

Harris’s statement on Tuesday doesn’t explain how involved she was with the decision to not prosecute, or why the decision was made. She also would not say whether the revelations would disqualify Mnuchin for the position of treasury secretary. “The hearings will reveal if it’s disqualifying or not, but certainly he has a history that should be critically examined, as do all of the nominees,” Harris told The Hill. She added that she would review the background and history of all Trump cabinet nominees.

The article goes on to explain how the Assistance Democratic Party went on to confirm him as treasury secretary.

Democratic party jingoism in 2020 will be extra-ordinary with candidates each trying to out do each other how they will fuck over Putin and the Russian nation. There will be a shit load of public loyalty testing against any third party candidate by the democrats.

The democrats (and media cohorts) have become an apocolyptic death cult. The language that comes from them is infused with the language of conspiracies, violence, treason, aggression and demonization.

And here is the thing, Bernie to survive electorally will have to become a cult member. Effectively he will have to be pro-war with Russia. He will be giving from the the Left supposed support for aggressive action andmilitarism toward Russia.

I fear that if a democrat becomes president in 2020 (it won't be Bernie), is elected president that in the year of the midterms in 2022, the US will start a real war with Russia which has a highly likehood of going nuclear.

"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."

They're downright idiots. The first to go to the wall and get shot will be legitimate (and also conservative) patriots - military officers, honest cops, and such. The Democrats will be next. First people of integrity who just happen to believe in what the dictators claim to believe, because they're dangerous. Then the deluded useful tools, because they can't be trusted. (Then the berniecrats, then the sheep that don't bleet on cue, and finally the old man that the neighborhood red guard official doesn't like)

On to Biden since 1973

Even though it gives me high anxiety after about two sentences, no matter what the subject.

There is no ad on earth that will increase her trust ratings or the enthusiasm of her voters the way a mega-registration project will increase her support on election day.

@webtv

Brent Budowsky Highly Paid Idiot

Mega-registration is a Clintonian D-Value, we already saw Bernie, now watch AOC it seems to me she is bending for a flip, but I don't "follow" the drama. We'll see.
Okay, back to Wikileaks and Brent on Her Heinous,

She appears locked into a tactical approach which is a Democratic version of the Richard Nixon strategy in the 1960's and 1970's----move left before the primaries before the nomination and then move right before the general election after the nomination. This approach no longer works in the current media and political era where brands, images and perceptions become locked in forever much earlier in the process than the old era where news moved slow and three television networks were the source of 90% of the news.

I suspect her negative trust ratings are locked in through election day. If there is a Trump ISIS video the campaign release it. If not, her untrustworthy numbers will remain further locked at high levels. These trust problems are self-induced and keep occurring.

The best single move to elect her would be a massive voter registration and organization drive. Expand the electorate so more voters will vote so her low trust ratings generally will have less pro rated impact, and the number of higher trust voters will be newly registered. Most of the consultants will oppose this because they do not get paid for registering voters to elect candidates, they get paid for other things such as television ads whether those ads are effective or not.

Cronies get paid whether they are effective or not. That's the system I wanna smash in to bits. Everyone blathering about Russia 2020 and we haven't even hit mid-terms. As the world burns, August still drags for news I guess. My first knee jerk response to this fine essay was snarky "can Russia put out a forest fire?" If yes, then sign me up. But no, it turns out the world really is burning and it has been for a while.

Look at the sidebar over there: Sweden, Central Africa, Tasmania... etc..

Electoral Politics ain't gonna fix much, the Wellstone triad can never happen after Citizen's United. Get real, voting ain't gonna put out any fires, just because your house hasn't burned yet doesn't mean it won't some day. Make dirt, not war. That is my revolution. Thanks

Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
