Was the 2016 election legitimate? It's now definitely worth asking the question

What do these people think they are doing? Are they getting all hyperactive because we’re creeping up on November and they’re taking the msm poll numbers as gospel? Is it because they think they’ got the Senate and House elections in the bag?

I know they’re batshit crazy if they think Trump voters are going to take this laying fown. It sounds like they’re (msm) just itching To see riots in the streets.

Was the 2016 election legitimate? It's now definitely worth asking the question
legitimacy of the current president.

There’s been a code of silence around President Donald Trump’s shady victory in 2016. It’s one of those tiptoe-around-it things that the American family just doesn’t talk about. And with good reason. Whatever your politics, it’s perilous to question the soundness of an American election.

*

But fear of facing the legitimacy question has not stopped Americans from harboring profound doubts, if only “deep down in places you don't talk about at parties,” in Aaron Sorkin’s phrasing from “A Few Good Men.”

As more and more facts about Trump’s incongruous victory emerge, the doubts gnaw harder — and grow harder to ignore.

A nation devoted to majority rule has a minority president. Who squeaked into office on an electoral college technicality. Against most data projections. Using dark money. Using voter suppression. Using Russian disinformation.

And, most chilling of all, with a massive assist from the Russian military, which not only hacked the Democrats, but also hacked voting software and a voting-system manufacturer.

The shot is only a preventative. Once the disease is contracted it must run its course (which is 99.999% fatal in real life - not sure if ideological "rabies" is as lethal).

Who squeaked into office on an electoral college technicality.

When the rules don't work out in favor of a Clinton, they become mere technicalities. The "technicality" that Trump supposedly exploited is simply the way the Electoral College works.

Putin attacks U.S. electoral college system: ‘There is no democracy there’

October 24, 2014

Speaking at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin went out of his way to dismiss a very American political system: The U.S. electoral college.

Toward the end of a lengthy question and answer session, Putin contrasted Russia's direct voting system with America's indirect electoral college system. His assessment was harsh. "There is no true democracy there," Putin said, referring to America, "and you are trying to convince us that we are not [democratic]?"

Here's what she says about the seriously mind fucked wacko Louise Mensch:

@LouiseMensch is the Sy Hersh of our time.

US Media Falls in Love With Unhinged British Witch Who Wants to Bomb Russia

One cannot argue that media dialogue about Russia is in any way serious or rational, so long as mainstream legitimacy is offered to a person who literally thinks Vladimir Putin murdered Andrew Breitbart
...
For some time, certain critics have been suggesting that the mainstream press gives a little too much credence to dubious conspiracy theories about Russia, theories which many Democrats have embraced out of their desire to undermine Donald Trump. Liberal commentators like Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann are beginning to sound a bit like Glenn Beck during the peak of the chalkboard-years. Any claim about nefarious doings by Vladimir Putin—for instance, that Russia hacked Vermont’s electric grid, or that the Naked Capitalism blog is Russian state propaganda—is spread widely by pundits without particular regard for the actual substantiating evidence.

Of course, one may disagree with this. One may believe that the media’s treatment of the Russia-Trump nexus has been sober and reasonable. But a new data point suggests otherwise: the New York Times recently published a piece on Russian hacking by Louise Mensch. And a world where the Paper of Record publishes Mensch is not a world with a sane public conversation about Russia.
...
Second, the press’s standards for Russia commentary are lower than at any point since the Cold War. Required qualifications for opining on Putin or Russia are essentially at the “skimming the Wikipedia entry” level. (It’s not just the Times. MSNBC, too, has regularly given airtime to Mensch, and she will appear on Bill Maher’s show this week.) Liberals are so eager to attack Trump over Russia stories that even a totally fringe conspiracist can have her claims treated as serious and worthwhile contributions to the discourse. In response to Mensch’s op-ed, cultural critic Virginia Heffernan said she “wish[ed] this were book-length” calling Mensch “the Sy Hersh of our time.” Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe praised Mensch as “impressive” and “incomparable.”

There’s a useful parallel to the 1979 film Being There, in which Peter Sellers plays a dopey gardener whose aphoristic pronouncements about plants are taken for insightful political metaphors, leading him to become the toast of the D.C. elite. Washington’s notion of wisdom is so vacuous that even a gibbering fool can be taken for a genius if they suit the needs of the political class. Likewise, talk about Russia has gotten so facile, with allegations requiring so little evidence, that a schizophrenic raving about Putin sending radio waves through their dentures could get a permanent gig with MSNBC if they had a PPE degree from Oxford.
...

That should tell you everything you need to know about Virginia. There has not been a single anti-Russia, anti-Putin lie she has not fell for, internalized and pushed since Trump got elected despite any being subsequently proven wrong.

@TheOtherMaven

holding primaries in every state was not the norm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries,_1968 Events at conventions were orchestrated, sometimes well in advance (Humphrey) and sometimes at the last minute (Adlai Stevenson's first nomination), but Democratic party bosses got their way. Now, because we have this show of nominees chosen by vote, they can get their way only with a complicit establishment media, and by rigging primaries one way or another.

In 2016, they didn't even try for much of a show. The hokey "Tell Hillary you want her to run" polls were showing up on the internet before Obama's re-election. At about the same time, the likes of Shrum and Shields were making the rounds, saying that, if Hillary wanted the 2016 Democratic Presidential nomination, it would be hers: no Democrat would even oppose her. That was quite a prediction from men whose careers theoretically depend on their credibility. For one thing, many politicians would very much like to be President someday. For another, in 2008, Hillary had relatively quickly blown a 30+ point lead against Obama. For another, the 2008 Democratic field had been large.

Never in my life had I heard a prediction anywhere near that absolute, and never in my life had I heard predictions made over 4 years in advance of the next Presidential. Yet, these remarkable predictions proved accurate, apart from improbable feints by former Republicans Webb and Chafee and Hillary's fellow Third Way Dem, Martin O'Malley (shooting for VP perhaps?).

For those reasons and others, I believe that a deal was made in 2008, among the Clintons, Obama and the party bosses, before Hillary conceded.

simply don't give a flying flip, dRump still a popular president beyond his base.
I wasn't necessarily expecting riots in the streets by now, but I totally WAS expecting a 70% rejection of his presidency by now - only his rabid "All In - Forever Trump!" supporters still all in. And, as a result of dRump's 2016 win, I totally WAS expecting a yuuuge Blue Wave in 2018.
I find it amazing that dRump and the Repubs have somehow avoided all that.
Some of it due to almost nobody buying the R-gate bull$h!t, everyone smarter than Rachel and her Hillbot viewers. But some of it due to MAGA too. There's something to be said (for many, at least) for American Exceptionalism and We're Not Going To Be Pushed Around Anymore, Dammit! And dRump is the very personification of that sentiment. Is why he wins in 2020. Becuz even as he's shoving it in the 99%, he's shoving it in the world's bad guys too. "Let me strap on another condom, China, becuz I got some for you too!" Sacrifice apparently worth it becuz (in my best Charlie Sheen) "winning!" It's all about winning, and nobody better personifies winning than dRump. Certainly ain't the Dims!
