Today's number is 11

11 and its multiples generate fun fractions (more later)

11 is the smallest positive integer with a 3 syllable name
11 is the 5th prime and the smallest 2 digit prime
If a number is divisible by 11, so is its reverse, for example: 165 and 561
if no 2 consective digits of a number add up to more than nine, then multiplying it by eleven generates a number which is the reverse of the product of the original number's reverse multiplied by 11. Example: 15 x 11=165 and 51 x 11 = 651

OK, deep breath
11 goes into 99 exactly 9 times. As a result, the decimal expansion of any common fraction with 11 in the denominator will be a two digit infinite repeat.
1/11 = .09 repeated,
2/11 = .18 repeated,
3/11 = .27 repeated,
4/11 = .36 repeated, etc.
The repeating 2 digits are the product of the numerator and .09 for numerators less than 11. For example, 7 x .09 = .63, so 7/9 = .63 repeated indefinitely.

An 11 sided polygon is a hendecagon or an undecagon

11 is significant in Thelema
11 is a master number in Numerology

11 is a come out win at craps
11 is sodium

There are 11 players per side on the field at one time in soccer, cricket, field hockey and US style football

Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring", has 11 consecutive repetitions of the same chord.
Spinal Tap's amplifiers go up to eleven.
There is a Grateful Dead song named "The Eleven" which has an 11/8 time signature.

The Sacramento Bee newspaper is running a series called The Influencers MEET 60 LEADING VOICES FOR A BETTER CALIFORNIA, beneath a giant wall of head photos. Sacramento is the state capitol.

This election year, The Sacramento Bee and other McClatchy newspapers in California want to drive a discussion on the important issues facing our state. We’ve assembled a panel of 60 influential Californians who will offer their views throughout the year.

I got so sick of looking at their faces I went to block the address to get some relief. Turns out the influencer head photos are hosted on media.kansascity.com. The headline at kansiscity.com right now is MEET 51 LEADING VOICES FOR A BETTER MISSOURI huh

@enhydra lutris thanks, each morning I go online seeking some good news and usually end up in a rage of yawns. SacBee so high tech they can't even host their own head images... what hypocrites! LOL It would just be so cool to build stuff of our own, not copy some dumb kansascity template and vice versa. If you look close enough you'll find the all-seeing panopticon dopamine request: "Tell us what you think"...
"So the machine can crush your little ideas to tiny bits" ?

Trust me once they've work-shopped from this speaking matrix, there's no
telling what she'll be incredibly prepared to have regret saying.

Happy Monday
kthxbye!

on the 'Dead, thanks for that first thing in the morn! Better than coffee(almost)! Good to listen to when the aggravation(?) at the denseness of USians toward what this country is/has been doing gets too much. Were the 'Dead a cia plant?!?

I'm really enjoying what I'm doing and it's actually a joy to be sitting in the shower and thinking "What is the topic for the class going to be today?"

Seeing as everybody's been chomping at the bit for it, I'm going to do the "Fall of the American Empire" today. Smile

If the worst comes to the worst, today, BTW (Net Neutrality Repeal goes into effect) I look forward to starting a small underground newspaper that works through the last common... the Postal System. I ain't giving up my writing, even if I have to scrawl it on the bathroom walls for a future Historian)

you must have had a good workout!

I love your (writing and) attitude - never say die until you direct it into the face of oppression!

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

@Ellen North Finally getting the last twinges of the Gout out of my foot. (Ironically, although it hurt badly to do the exercises on it, it worked MUCH better than lying down and waiting for it to clear on its own. Could practically hear the grinding when I was doing footwork...)

That and very little meat and mostly spinach and other leafy greens to eat. Smile

@detroitmechworks

glad you've found something that helps!

Funny how often certain stretching and other exercises help a body that evolved to be active - or maybe not, lol.

But both good yoga and good martial arts instruction will focus on coordinating, connecting and maximizing the body potential so that the whole becomes more than the sum of the parts.

I remember reading that what we term aging is the congregating result of insults which the body has not been able to heal; it's only logical that the right muscular, nutritional and inner positive-feedback emotional self-support can make all of the difference in the world.

We live until we die, might as well make the best of it. Ideally from birth, lol.

@Ellen North For example, I have a much more natural left handed stance than right handed. I also tend to go high more often than I should which is a sign of somebody who trying to use their body weight, and can be easily countered, so I have to watch that...

So, the twice weekly exercise and social time really helps. Hell I have been thinking if they just had a Roman/Japanese style bath afterwords it would be the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. (Course that would be a common which was considered practically sacred to to Romans, since it was one of the few places where nobles were equal at least in the price they paid.)

Yes, I'm such a history geek, but I keep thinking about how sometimes we seem to have jettisoned very good things in our pursuit of innovation and novelty.

Thanks Trump.
The Trump-dumbskulls will all celebrate the fact that Trump Succeeded In Killing Yet Another Onerous Regulation.

Hey Trump dumbskulls, what Trump calls a Regulation is really a Consumer Protection. Aw fogeddaboutit. It's like explaining rocket science to a rock.

Net neutrality is really, officially dead. Now what?
There are no more procedural delays on the FCC's decision -- the rules have been rolled back. Here's everything you need to know.

@enhydra lutris @enhydra lutris

He who controls information controls all - but at least we know better than to believe any official stories and that TPTB always accuse others of what they do themselves, because I suspect we're about due for some more domestic False Flags in potentially multiple NATO countries as an excuse to declare WW3.

Apart from that, dunno if there's much point in paying for internet just to access whatever entertainment and to keep umpteen spy agencies updated on what you had for breakfast... music is still required, just have nothing functional to play old tapes and CDs on; radio here is worse than useless...

Edit: oh, good, was wondering where my trade-mark letter-typo was; waited to leap out at me when scrolling back down, of course... damn Russian letter-typo-spy-sneaks have that genetically evil sense of humour...

But familiarity with TPTB's goals and methods might breed enough contempt to flatten the buggers.

This made me think of an old Beatles album, indefinitely repeating 'number 9', which made me think that maybe the Beatles have been running the white mice all along - and that perhaps 11 is the true answer to Life, The Universe and Everything? Or possibly those two-tined pitchforks I can't recall the proper term for? I'm not a math surgeon, of course, so I'm just guessing here... kinda like those pitchforks, though.

@Citizen Of Earth

they're counting on there being no history for there to be no records in, with nobody remaining to wonder about why.

But they're wrong, for we have future records being written here already, by one of our own time-travelers.

The video is very telling; considering the circumstances, I'm wondering if he was targeted as being a Prog running for office and the cops were told off to rough him up or worse.
