#WhichDailyKos ? #WhichMarkos ?

This is cross posted at DailyKos, (w00t, top of the wreck list at the moment!) and where I say "here" in the post, I'm referring to, um, there Wink
Thought y'll might enjoy, and I also wanted to have this up here, in case I get banned, well, there!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hillary Clinton:
..."doesn't deserve fairness on this site" because she "fails the test of the guiding principles of this site"...
...may be the establishment's choice, but real power in the party has shifted...
The last thing we need in the White House is another out-of-touch, tone-deaf Bush-style presidency, unable or unwilling to admit mistakes and change course as a result.
Clinton's campaign is counting on low-information Democratic voters selecting Clinton based on little more than name ID. …. SNIP …..
Does she think her audience is that stupid? Apparently so.
And therein lie Hillary Clinton's biggest problems. She epitomizes the "insider" label
….SNIP….
She's part of the Clinton machine that decimated the national Democratic Party
….SNIP….
her advisers have stripped what personality she has, hiding it from the public
….SNIP….
what remains is a heartless, passionless machine, surrounded by the very people who ground down the activist base in the 1990s and have continued to hold the party's grassroots in utter contempt.
~ Markos Moulitsas, Spring 2008 ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Note: I’ve edited the quotes above (fair use policies, in re: WaPo) and added emphasis/italics to make a point.

The above quotes are what Markos said for public consumption back in ‘08. This is stuff he wrote, both here (at DailyKos), and at WaPo, in the Spring of 2008, while the primaries were still hotly contested.

At the time, some Clinton supporters at daily kos were so incensed by Markos’ statements criticizing Hillary Clinton, that they loudly, and very publicly (as in, made it to the pages of the NY Times! ) staged a ‘writers walkout’ (Markos called it a ‘boycott’).
NOTE: Markos did NOT threaten to ban them because they voiced loud opposition, they threatened to leave (and, in fact, some left) of their own accord.

----- It was a BIG DEAL here, and out in the blogosphere in general -----
“The comment board was shut down about 5.5 hours after it (the walk out declaration) was posted, with 1258 comments.”

(LINK to DIARY announcing the “Writers Strike” of the 2008 primaries. It’s worth reading, for the trip down memory lane, and the irony, if nothing else. The more things change, the more they stay the same? (Ahem, well, except for a major difference….Markos.))

Said a supporter of Markos, in response to the diary:

nothing has changed here (at daily kos)... in terms of tactics or tone. We've never pulled any punches here (at daily kos) when it comes to the centrists, the equivocators, the triangulators, the DLCers, and the Washington insiders. For Christsake, kos wrote a book about it. And the Clintons "wrote the book" on just those things we despise: equivocation, triangulation, the DLC, etc. …... snip...
The only difference is now we’re (at daily kos) attacking a candidate whom YOU feel strongly about.
Sorry. It happens. But if you don’t understand why we (at daily kos) dislike her, if you don’t understand that she stood opposed to the blogroots for years, that this community (daily Kos) grew into what it is today despite her, not because of her, then you’re right, perhaps this (daily kos) isn’t the blog for you.
You see, decentralized though we are (at daily kos), I’ve always felt that the vast majority of bloggers share a point of view. Out with the old way of doing politics, and in with the new. To many of us, Hillary Clinton, every bit as much as Joe Lieberman, typifies a wing of the Democratic party that is anathema, a wing that is responsible for the party’s downfall, and complicit with the rise of radical conservatism.

(I inserted “DAILY KOS” in parenthesis, for emphasis)

I-m so happy Yep, what they said! I-m so happy

~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----Ah, the way-back machine-----
Ironically, the comments in that diary are, in substance, identical to comments in present day Rox/Sux diaries. Only the names have been changed- Substitute “Obama” with “Sanders”, and “Hillary” with, um, well, “Hillary”. There were/are slurs of “Obama Boyz” instead of “Bernie Bros”, and DLC Third Way, and Establishment, low information voters, etc etc etc.
-----Fast forward to March 2016-----
Daily Kos. Hotly contested primary. Sux/Rox diaries. Passionate supporters of one side or the other. Pie Wars. Meta. HR’s (Flags) fly. Same old same old. In fact, just Daily Kos being Daily Kos...
Full Stop … Wait ... There IS one big difference, this year!
Markos, the guy that owns this place, the guy who made those inflammatory, unflattering, and decidedly non-constructive statements about Hillary (as late in the primary as May, 2008) has decided, this time around, that on (~) March 15th, we have to to stop criticizing ONE candidate, Hillary Clinton, unless it’s intended to help make Hillary a better candidate, and further, we must unify behind a candidate who seems to falter a bit more with every passing day.
A candidate who, in spite of universal name recognition, overwhelmingly favorable media coverage, Party and celebrity endorsements, a professional political ‘machine’ years in the making, Millions and Millions of Super Pac $$$, and just about every other political advantage imaginable, has basically blown a huge early primary lead — and, to a virtually unknown Democratic Socialist from the small state of Vermont. No one could have imagined!!
Frankly, I don’t see how Markos calling Hillary Clinton any of the following; a ‘heartless passionless machine’ , who is “out-of-touch, tone-deaf” and whose Presidency would be a “Bush-style” one, can be construed as “constructive criticism”. Hillary, relying on “Low information Voters” … wait, I thought that was a scurrilous dog whistle for ‘not white’ ?!?!? ….. and honestly, how can blaming the Clintons for “decimating the national Democratic Party” be intended, in any way, shape or form, to ‘make her a better candidate’ ???
In point of fact, I’m guessing that all of those caustic, inflammatory and negative statements it was OK for Markos to make in 2008 will be Flaggable comments, starting tomorrow, March 15th, aka, “IDES OF MARCH"
AND WE’RE only 1/3 of the way into the primaries!!!
Of course, ymmv. Or, more to the point, Markos’ mileage may vary.
As for me, well, I’ll just keep on feelin’ the Bern.
And yes, I know, it’s his blog.
And, evolving...
Keep on truckin’
For his co-opted front page employees and for the smart ones among the Hillary supporters it is an unanswerable attack on their boss using his own words. They all know that any comment at all by one of them will worsen the optics for kos. And just in case one dares, I'm sure we'll all be checking to make sure it is widely responded to.
and refreshingly, the Hillary supporters who showed up could be counted on one hand. Made for a fairly level headed comment thread, with a very few exceptions.
Some made singularly flat footed attempts to say they saw no difference in Kos' statements in 2008 compared to currently, which were treated with the laughter they deserved. What a hoot!
Anyways, new day, more work to do for Bernie!
It pisses off the Clintonistas to see them on the rec list, so that's a good enuf reason for me to do it.
Also BNR deserves all the love we can give it.
And that's why I came looking for this place. I saw while trolling KOS that someone made a remark about having to leave the site on the 15th and how she would miss so many 'really good writers' that post on KOS. Someone responded to that post by printing this site's web address and said that a lot of the really "good writers" were already HERE.
I can't post over there. I've never been banned. I just can't post. I can sign petitions, I get freaking emails from them, and I am asked for money all the time (which will NEVER happen). I just can't post. See, I didn't wait long enough for the Peace Prize to cool down and so during the fracas over the ACA and a number of Obama's broken campaign promises, I made a remark about the futility of voting for Democrats. Hahahaha. They took my posting rights away like that was going to hurt my fee fees. I meant what I said. I still do. These Third Way turd hearses are NOT Democrats. The invasions started with that impeached slug Clinton and carried on with a bang by the current anti-Democratic ringer sitting in the White House.
When I found out about his sneaky ways of meeting with Billy Tauzin and the healthcare insurance industry bigwigs while telling us that Single Payer was a no-go, and when I saw the jackals who crashed the economies of half this planet getting bonuses for what they did I had had it. I will NEVER forget the day I saw this...
That was when I knew that Obama was every bit as corrupt as the Clintons. And even though I voted for the %#$$%Q# a second time, I found that holding my nose accomplished NOTHING. We are now totally at the mercy of the same liars that caused the 2008 crash and who were responsible for Shock and Awe. All done with the help of 'New Democrat' Billy Clinton and Barack 'I love trade agreements, I can't lie..." Barack Obama.
The Third Way turd hearses -- or simply Turd Wayers, as I call them -- are Republicans. At best. Many are actually worse than Republicans; they're Confederates, Dixiecrats.
Altogether too often, folks don't get that when we point out the fact that Hillary Clinton is a Republican with a veneer of socially liberal window dressing, that's actually a relatively mild criticism. Many Southern "Democrats" are actually further to the right than she is.
The only Democrats I accept as such are those whose constantly reliable policy positions would be recognized as such by Democrats in continuously loyal States, in 1975. Fortunately, we've got a Presidential Candidate who qualifies this time.
And his name ISN'T Clinton!
Course, one of the things about dog whistles: If it's NOT a dog whistle, you're essentially claiming that you have special mind reading powers.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Look at the choices we've been given to vote for this time. We didn't choose these people. they were chosen for us to give us an illusion of choice and freedom.
On one hand, we have a man who incites his people towards violence, and then claims:
Sunday morning, Donald Trump took to the various political shows to reject the notion that anybody has been hurt at any of his rallies. Though he acknowledged there had been protests, he adamantly claimed that “nobody’s been hurt” and objected that the media only shows clips of him supporting violence but none of him decrying it.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2016/03/13/3759563/trump-violence-rall...
And then we have Hillary Clinton, who has been given every advantage possible to ensure a status quo candidate by the so-called 'left'. She's been given the aura of being inevitable, a fortunate debate schedule benefitting her, and much more coverage than her primary opposition, Bernie Sanders.
Given the low quality of both of the 'likely nominee' individuals running, the elites must enjoy a daily and nightly session of uncontrollable laughter at these choices they have foisted on the American People. The 'likely' candidates at this stage are an abomination, but these are the choices we have. And still, there are Democrats who will say that 'Well, she's better than a Republican'. But that is an immensely simple thing to be as well. Few bring that up, and even fewer wish to acknowledge the low bar set by 'being better than a Republican.
And given that Republicans are worse, why is it that Hillary Clinton says she’ll work with them to get things done? Does it even matter if what she wants to get done with Republicans hurts most people? We're supposed to believe that with her history that anything beneficial for the people of this country would be something Republicans would be willing to work with her? The only things Republican would willingly work with her on are things which would compromise the rest of us and benefit the wealth class/corporate power structures.
Hillary Clinton appears to have conflicts of interest and appearances of corruption where corporate 'speaking fees' and personal enrichment are concerned, but we're told to overlook that. Move along. Nothing to see here. "Everybody does it'. All the while, Clinton, with visions of he 90s era in her eyes, 'wants to get things done' and 'knows how'. She wants credit for all the good things that happened during her husbands 'reign', but not the shadow of the negative aspects of other things which occurred. Giver her credit for the positive, but leave her blameless for the negative is the general message.
And still it comes back to the 90s era of 'working with Republicans - when NAFTA was signed. When Glass-Steagall was rescinded. When other bubbles were propping up expansion and would have popped whether Bush or Gore were elected in 2000. Hillary Clinton is 'the progressive, moderate, centrist, conservative candidate and she'll use whichever label is appropriate based on what her audience wants to hear.
This is the person on the left we're told to trust and get behind, because look at what will happen if a Republican takes office. We have no reasons to vote for Hillary Clinton, just reasons to vote against Republicans. For some, those reasons simply aren't enough anymore either.
The other concern is that were a Sanders nomination achieved, and then a win in the general followed, that his measures and platform would also be obstructed. Obama caved in many areas and quietly became mostly a controlled tool and puppet of the elite. How might Sanders not fall into this same trap?
Would a Sanders Presidency, better than a Clinton one by measure of 'not getting the things a clinton wants to get done 'with Republicans', only be a stop gap to the eventual win by a Republican? Turnover will occur at some point, better later than sooner though. Still, that argument isn't enough to make some of those who do not trust Hillary Clinton 'happy' and willing to support and do the work to GOTV.
And this is where we are as a country, and the owners of this country, the real 'owners' of all of 'the little people', get to laugh regularly at the control they now have. The people grow restless on both sides of their identity politics trap, and that does give them pause as they lay their heads down before sleep. We need to turn this pause for concern before sleep into sleepless nights. But how we get there is anybody's guess at this point.
With Republicans, the sink is empty. With Clinton, we hear the water still circling the drain. How does Sanders help us put more water in the sink and maybe stop the drain? At this point, big questions are out there. Can we stop the drain? Will we be 'allowed to' by those who have already sold out this country to the corporate power structure?
The future is not a bright one. And the comment at each state of the union speech that 'the state of our union is strong'…is a lie.
not only did I tip and rec, but I added a small amount of my own research to it in my comment. Copying it for those who do not want to travel over there. I have to give a big H/T to our own cybrestrike who really nailed his comment which I quoted. Dude, your comment was incredible.
Actually Markos declared Hillary the nominee back in July of 2014.
Clinton will be our nominee. She is genuinely liked and popular with Democratic Party primary voters.
This statement was made well before anyone had formally declared to be a candidate in the Democratic primary. And if we are to believe Clinton, she was not sure she was going to run so that is why she continue to take massive amounts of money in speaking fees.
When user The Technomancer suggested that Bernie Sanders was a far better candidate, this was kos’s response. My bolding.
There is a market need inside the GOP for voices to the Right of their mainstream candidates. There is no such market on the left.
Bernie can run, and he'll get 5-10%, and then he'll be safely ignored by everyone because he will prove himself to sit in the margins.
Just like Warren, Sanders is more effective in the Senate.
You want Hillary to push a liberal agenda, give her liberal bills to sign.
User cybrestrike was extremely prescient in this comment. The bolding was his.
I completely disagree with this diary.
There is no way to push HRC to the left. That's just ridiculous. She is who she is. Mildly liberal on social issues, very terrible on economic policy, and straight up neocon on foreign policy.
But kos has spoken, and thus we must fall in line.
Shorter kos: "We are the Clintons. Lower your values and surrender your liberalism. We will add your idealism and political distinctiveness to our own. Your ideology will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
In short: We're so screwed.
The arrogance of his quotes is stunning.
Also, what about that nauseating letter of Senators and Congress people begging her to run? Blecch! I think that was sort of preliminary loyalty oath. Many people cite Elizabeth Warren signing that letter as some sort of endorsement and also a guarantee that she wouldn't run herself.
I start to add a comment ' . . . or the plan'. I hit Preview, a red Error box pops up, saying 'Error! You have already made this comment, please try another'
Hmmm. I try a second time. Same result. I move on.
I post comments replying to other comments, no problem.
Until I see a 'follow the money' comment from someone unknown to me. I see another opening for my comment, so I reply with ' . . . or the plan.' I hit Preview -- same error box comes up, same message.
Is this weird or what? (ie, WTF?.) 3 attempts at 2 comments to post one reply (' . . . or the plan') and DK5 blocks *that phrase* from being attached to 'follow the money' by saying 'already made that comment' when DK5 hasn't let me make it at all.
Which is kinda like, 'How can you be in two places at once when you're really nowhere at all?'
Anybody else getting this 'already made that comment' Error message blocking comments? When replying to particular comments (or comment with particular words/phrases in them)? When your reply contains certain similar words or phrases? In-between ticks of the atomic clock? To any particular trigger, in any particular pattern?
Techno-people, can you explain this? Is this them trying out some new algorithm/script to 'deny comment if' (whatever)?
Just reporting an oddity, folks.
I returned to the 3rd 'error' (I had left that open at Preview). I clicked 'submit' again and the comment posted.
So, was system just too busy on each of my three attempts? (But even so, why such a weird message? Instead of, say, 'server too busy/ try again later.?)
I post a comment and I get message saying "This comment does not exist", and it looks like it isn't posted. I have to refresh the diary in order to finally see it.
DKos is indeed wonky lately, must be that "mob algorithm" they're working on for the 16th.... Blum 3
Nice to come here and relax and hose off the Orange slime. Today was a doozie.
Greetings C99 - thanks for setting this up and thank you Lisa for this post.
I was a 12-year mostly lurker on DKos. Looking forward to some good reads here with no censorship.
I think he believed that Flying Spaghetti Clinton would win Michigan easily and then wrap it up with a clean sweep tomorrow, going ahead by 500 delegates. If that had played out then yes, it would be pretty much impossible to beat her.
But the fans have decided that extending her lead at all, even if it's by one delegate, is proof that Bernie can't catch up. That doesn't work logically. Bernie will take the West Coast easily and it'll probably matter what happens in California, with all those delegates. Hopefully here in Oregon he'll win handily. Remind me to switch my registration back to Democratic. I believe we have until April 26th for that so I don't have to do it tomorrow but then after enough tomorrows it'll be too late.
Washington, Alaska, and I would guess Oregon. The Willamette Valley farmers are certainly behind him. This brings in the slow food movement as well. That is a huge chunk of the population of Western Oregon.
Bernie will take most of the West. Hillary is not playing well there. My only question is: is CA so much a machine state that the Feinstein types will be able to put it away for Hillary? Or do the rank and file count there? Can there be an insurgency?
and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Please, Please may Bernie Sanders win CA, and we'll all promise to be good and not say bad things about the Clintons for as long as we can - would 5 seconds suffice?
Please, please, CA.
Thank you.
I was thinking that AZ was more conservative, so would be more favorable for Hillary/Trump.
Would love to be wrong!
I was on Delphi only, back then. I don't think I joined until 2012 or 2013. I can't for the life of me remember my handle, though I might have mentioned it in one forum on Delphi privately, but I don't have a record of the handle. I got locked out in late 2013 or 2014. I smelled a change in the air among Markos and his pets even then. A shuffle in mood and tone of the "leadership" posters seemed to be heading toward more uniformity, and having been shoved into the "norm" most of my life and FOUGHT IT often to my detriment, I fought what I refer to as smelly smarm and got bagged. I created a second account using a different Email and handle and occasionally posted as "restinbones" but made only ONE diary entry.. and that was about Sanders. Oh, the snides responded, but I'm so tired of DINOS that I didn't even go back there after I posted it until comments were closed. Oh, well. I had some mojo there, just from comments, but I think it's shrunk to a prostatic little nubbin, which is odd, because I'm a girl.
I can't imagine this woman as president. I SO want a woman president, but PLEASE someone like Warren, if the nation lasts long enough for her to run. for that to happen, we HAVE to nominate Sanders, he HAS to win huge, and congress MUST be concomitantly voted HUGE majority Dem in both Houses. You know, if that happened all at once, it'd be a trifecta. Well, it's not that.. Or wait. Maybe it IS a trifecta. It's all about a race for a Presidential term.
Good luck on remaining on DK. I don't think you're going to last much longer there. Or maybe some of the morons backing Markos, and he HAS allies on his team or he couldn't be as influential as he has been in the past, will read your diary we also see here and WAKE UP.
That might be a bigger longshot than I need FOR MY SURVIVAL -- as things are going, if shit escalates economically, I'll be among thousands of elderly who'll lose the homes they paid off, and end up dying on the street as elderly homeless. Medicare is killing many of us, instead of maintaining our health -- literally. It's all about economics and only Sanders and Warren seem to get it.
We MUST as a nation look inward and fix shit HERE, instead of attempting to spread our national penchant toward insanity.
is a good way to think of DK. = )
I self-exiled myself also. I found I was using way too much energy on stupid stuff. I also recently left another blog in which the moderator decided to throw in a gag rule. *Sigh*
I am a woman and don't really care about the symbolism of having a woman president if all she is going to do is govern in the same manner as the presidents of the past 50+ years. Having an AA president sure didn't help those who thought his race would make a difference.
Medicare...I do not think a lot of people understand that the program is not all that great any more. With cuts and medical costs, it has become rather expensive for those who do not have the income to pay for the co-pays and other fees. For a recent office visit that included one shot, I received a statement for over $150 of non-covered costs. That is just for a well visit after no visits for at least three years. Imagine if I needed anything done. I am very lucky (I guess) that I also qualify for Medicaid, so those costs will be covered. For others, the difference in what is covered could be their food bill.
I get angry at the comments I see in various places about Sanders' "free stuff." Why can't people see that we will be replacing endless wars and corporate welfare for things that will help the US Americans who are being taxed for things most of us do not want?
