Gypey...nice!

Warm sunny day here in Fla.

Two little things:

This song just popped into my head(earworm):

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRx3tUEzdp4]

This needs no comment as to it's importance in humanist and political terms:

Have a great day all.

...and she was armless to all.

Mid 30's this AM as the last of cold weather hangs on. It is dogwood winter as they say around here. We have another typical cold spell coming in early May...blackberry winter.

Here's hoping you all have a good day!

1952 -- Truman calls for the seizure of all US steel mills to prevent a strike.

So, Truman vetoed Taft Hartley in 1947 (although Congress overrode his veto), but pulled a dramatic, union-busting move like this a few years later. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=12675

Dozens reported killed in suspected Syria gas attack; Damascus denies

Washington said the reports - if confirmed - would demand an immediate international response.
...
The Russian-backed Syrian state denied government forces had launched any chemical attack as reports began circulating on Saturday night. The government said rebels in the eastern Ghouta town of Douma were collapsing and spreading false news.

Reuters could not independently verify the reports.

The lifeless bodies of around a dozen children, women and men, some of them with foam at the mouth, were shown in one video circulated by activists. "Douma city, April 7 ... there is a strong smell here," a voice can be heard saying.

My brother was a Clinton tool, an apparatchik. He is the reason I met Donna Brazil one night at a meeting in the Castro. She was for one PAC, and he was for another. He lost that vote and she won and I never liked her since. Heh. I was a twenty-something. YOLO

Happy Birthday Richie.

EXAMINER STAFF REPORT
Civic leader Richmond Young, a longtime San Francisco political and AIDS activist, died of complications due to AIDS Saturday at his Castro District home on his 43rd birthday.
Richmond Young was active in both local gay and lesbian politics and
Democratic politics on the local and state levels. Mr. Young's interest in politics was inherited from his mother and began when he served as Northern California coordinator for the Eugene McCarthy for President campaign in 1968.
Since that time he worked tirelessly for both gay and lesbian and Democratic Party candidates. Most recently he was a member of President Clinton's San Francisco Steering Committee; he was a founding member of the Clinton-Gore Democratic Club. Mr. Young was a Clinton delegate to the 1992 Democratic Convention and also served a s a delegate to the California Democratic Council.
He was a member of the California State Democratic Party and earlier this year was District Attorney Arlo Smith's appointee to the San Francisco Democratic Central Committee.
Mr. Young served for three years as an officer of the Alice B. Toklas
Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club and was president of the Stonewall Gay Democratic Club for three years. He served as a Board of Supervisors' Commission on Elections and in 1993 Supervisor Angela Alioto appointed him to the HIV Youth Advisory Committee.
"We have lost a spirited leader, a fighter for the underdog and a friend; he made our city a very special place," Alioto said.
Mr. Young was a longtime member and office of Dignity, an organization composed of and devoted to the needs of gay and lesbian Roman Catholics. Members of Dignity played an important role in his life and he was preceded in death by his godfather and close friend Kevin J. Calegari.
Mr. Young was born in San Francisco and raised and educated in Marin County. He worked for many years as a legal editor at Commerce Clearing House Inc. in San Rafael.

@enhydra lutris @enhydra lutris thanks for being a consistently great host in the Open Threads. Hope you didn't get washed out, like the snow pack did. I know, let's make Shasta Dam 4 gajillion feet tall! Make California Bigly Again. lol

Hey California c99ers, who is your non-partisan pick for Guber? Gavin Newsom is what Bernie and the NNU National Nurses Union call a "progressive". I call bullshit on Newsom, he is a fake millionaire who got rich off "smartly investing" in silver bars wink wink, and vineyards why not. The guy is worse than plastic, but go on.

I see Gloria La Riva is running, a launch point for her next Presidential run. lol. I am going to start voting for her every time I see her on the ballot, my time is short. Right on sister... to the jungle!

your music selections, thank you!

And a thanks to the birth-gods for bringing Jacques Brel. So many of his tunes are favorites, hard to choose one to share this morning, i recall belting out Port of Amsterdam and Old People touches sweetly as do much of his works, settled for these:

Good day to everyone!

I encourage everyone here to start their own local yokel C-99 MeetUps! This one wasn't as successful as we would have liked, but our next one will be in Rottenchester (as my Aunt's sister - who lived in Irondequois - called it), so C-99 Buffalonians can make the one hour trek! More info as we get that one organized.

readers of naked capitalism. There were twenty people there. I did meet-ups for years for the Daily Klinton, never could get more than a dozen. As for a C99 meet-up, I know of only 3 readers in Southern AZ and we already know each other pretty well. I'd be willing to travel some to meet others but I believe we are too few and too spread out across the country to do meet-ups .

The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

@Azazello
If The Right can do it we can do it.
At the Dylan Ratigan event here Fri. night, one of his campaign workers, our age, asked me, "didn't we do this in the '60s?!" We did. "I can't believe we have to do this all over again. But we do. And I can't sit on the couch watching the Oligarchs take over this country while I'm still able bodied to help stop them." Same here. The bones ache, the legs don't work great, but you'll find me out there. Lookin' forward to buying you a beer sometime soon, @Azazello!
