Friday Night Photography

Greetings folks. I'll get this started while we wait for Fred's appearance.

A follow up on the pussy willow tree. Today the tree was loaded with bees because the buds are full of pollen. Other trees where I walk are doing their budding things too. Favorite time of year.

Charlie is a beautiful cat. Tell us more about him. I'd love to get another kitty, especially after seeing Fred growing up, but there are too many mean dawgs around me.

I had problems with this tonight and loading my photo and didn't notice it didn't upload. I desperately need a new computer.

And he very much wants to please. I rescued him from the pound. He loves to play with "bunny foo foo" a toy with peacock feather on the end. We have coyotes outside so he only goes out with me and I have trained him to go inside when I say the word "raus' which is German for get out. Backwards, but it works. I like the sound of it when I say it. He once almost got caught by an eagle when we lived in Canada, oh Canada, blame Canada. It's too bad that you can't have a cat but that's responsible of you if it would just get hurt.

@magiamma We had a big black tomcat show up here last fall. My mom usually will shoot stray tomcats, but he was so nice and friendly we dubbed him Gus and neutered him (my mom is a vet; I helped); he's the biggest, sweetest black kitty. I'll have to get a photo of him and share it.
We have a lot of eagles around here too, which is why I won't let the babies run outside. I saw three of them flying around over our farm not long ago. The most I've ever seen is five at one time, but they were further off in the distance.

I had three generations of black cats years ago. I loved them all. We had a family of golden eagles on the island where I lived, but a contractor cut their home down and they left for the mainland. They can only lift up about 9 lbs I think. The one that tried to snag Charles was three feet away from both me and Charles when I walked up on the scene. Quite awe inspiring to be that close to an eagle. Eye to eye level. And I said, Oh, look at you. Poor Charlie had every hair standing straight up and he was back lit by the sun. Memorable.

That yellow is delicious! And I like the way the orange in the puffs is picked up in the background. Smile

I knew nothing about this type of tree and I walked by it without seeing it. It's been fun watching it this year.

Heh!

The Fred.JPG

Actually, I've been trying to work out how some posters (socialprogessive, Boris Cleto, etc.,) can post crisp, larger landscape shots (via Flickr... I think). I dunno.

So, while I ponder that, here's a bag o'Fred...

I had to enlarge my screen to see him in the bag. There is just something about his eyes that get me.

I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.

Your lovely shots.... how do you size them for C99 thread purposes? I've tried the resize function and things just look blurry.

I notice they're all via Flickr.

Say hi to Fred for me.
I would recommend opening a Flickr page (it's free) and post your photos from there. You won't get the pixelation like when you upload images via the c99 link.

The first bee photo was taken at the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon.

Here's a link to their website.

@Socialprogressive That is stunning! I can only hope to get a photo like that some day.

Those macarons look delicious. I've been trying to master the art of the French macaron; I need more practice.

I was very fortunate that the Heron landed very close to me and there was some really good natural light.

Here's a common grackle:

Say what you will about them, but I love these guys. We have a couple pairs here now; the other day I was watching them fly around and around with their mate, then briefly land in a tree, then continue to fly around and around, repeat all day long. Some kind of courtship ritual I guess? I hope they find the food soon; then I can get some better photos, but for now this will have to do. I just love their shiny blue heads and bright yellow eyes.

Looks black to me. Maybe it's the blue sky behind. I will have to look them up and see. The finches you identified weeks ago have left en masse. There must have been a hundred here. Do they migrate? Now we just have the white crowned sparrows here at the feeders. But there is a peregrine and red wing hawks that hang around to eat them.
