In 'Affront to Freedom of the Press,' Canadian Journalist Faces Criminal Charges for Covering Protest
Press freedom advocates are raising awareness about the plight of Justin Brake, a journalist who is facing unprecedented charges in Newfoundland, Canada, more than a year after he covered a protest at a construction site for a controversial dam.
What was his crime?
Brake embedded with Indigenous demonstrators at the Muskrat Falls dam project in Labrador in October 2016. The protesters, who fear contaminants that could flow from the dam, violated an injunction by cutting through a lock on a gate and entering the project site. Brake followed them, livestreaming the action for several days.
For merely doing his job, the reporter is now fighting criminal and civil charges. Brake could face up to 10 years in prison in addition to fines and mounting legal fees.
Canada used to have freedom of the press:

Indigenous leaders, lawmakers, students, and environmentalists took part in a massive day of action that stretched across Canada on Friday to protest the expansion of Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline, a project Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he will "ensure" is completed.

In what was called a first in Canadian history, two sitting members of parliament—Green Party leader Elizabeth May and New Democrat Kennedy Stewart—were arrested for demonstrating against the Trans Mountain pipeline outside of the gate of a Kinder Morgan construction site on Burnaby Mountain, where indigenous leaders staged a sit-in last weekend.
"This is because of Justin Trudeau's betrayal of British Columbia," Stewart said as he was led away by law enforcement. According to Vice, more than 100 pipeline protesters have been arrested this week alone as opposition to Kinder Morgan's project mounts.

I wonder how many of our "democratic allies" have instituted laws like this already, and this is just the tail end of the parade. After all, Americas idea of a Free Speech Zone is a place where no one can hear you protest.

Along with weapons manufacturers, fossil fuels are at the heart of the US deep state too. It is as though they understand these fuels are phasing themselves out (and perhaps our species). They are desperate to squeeze as much profit as possible on all the over leveraged fracking and tar sands operations.

InJustice Trudon't is a placeholder for Harper, who they didn't quite dare to cheat in again; Elizabeth May, Green Party Leader and consistent fighter for the people and environment, would, of course, have been the only possible Prime Ministerial choice, only she sacrificed herself to the nation-wide strategic vote to get the Cons out and for some reason the eternally corrupt Liberals and NDP with a (non-NDP) new leader who'd considered dropping the social democracy from the platform composed of social democracy were chosen as the two options... too depressing... hope we have one that's better planned this time.
