Friday Night Photos - Dreaming of Warm Weather Edition

Got a foot of snow just the other day, here on the flat wastes of Middle America. Got to thinking of prior warm weather experiences.

We didn't get a single flake of snow from that storm here; crazy huh!
This is what we woke up to yesterday (cell phone pic):

I love hoarfrost; something we didn't have in Utah since it's always so dry there.

I haven't seen many birds around lately. I did go look today and saw lots of goldeneyes and a few mergansers on the river but I haven't looked at the photos yet. Didn't see anything when I went driving around the other day either but lots of white-tailed deer all over the place:

This one gave me a look:

A cool photo I ran across today:

Glastonbury, England it said.

Looks like Fred really enjoys that tree!

Here's Winchester Cathedral. A distant great-grandfather is buried not far from Jane Austen.

@Bollox Ref Now you got me studying the map of England again.
This is in Oxford, but I don't remember the name of the building:

That was before I had a digital camera and had to scan photos to upload them to a computer.
This is me at Stonehenge:

That will be 11 years ago in May. Where does the time go?!

A capital of Anglo-Saxon England. There are a number of burial chests that contain the remains of various early English kings within the cathedral.

The search for Alfred the Great's grave continues.

We got the kind of snow that coats the trees this week, but it melted before I could get any photos. 2-3 inches on everything. It's too bad that I'm allergic to morning.

Great play on the light in the last picture.

It is magical; if we get more I'll have to get out with my good camera and get some proper photos of it.

@Daenerys definitely to Tintagel and a few of the church ruins.

Send me your FB addy if you are on there and I can send back this year's normal irruption of snowy owls from the island I had a place on. Still in contact with several photographers there. Central/eastern Ontario areas.

@riverlover We went to Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, Bath and London with stops in Bibury and Windsor when I was there. Bath was amazing, particularly at night.

Have you ever seen this photo?

Not all this "who are you, and how did you get in here?" nonsense.

Water formats are very cool unless they are waterfalls washing out one's driveway. Snow sublimation is also neat but slow.

@Socialprogressive that we all (more as adults?) see patterns. I may still have the ability to find the four-leaf clover in a field or to find a fossil in a gravel bed. So we recognize difference on top of pattern. Interference?

That is what I saw when I first came upon it.
Now the things that stand out to me is the "fox looks more like a bull that has two horns, eyes and nostrils.

But at the top of it, I see an owl type creature, that has a mask on or is that some type sleeping long nosed animal? Do you see the baby owl inside the crack near the top of the rock?

Hmm. The longer I look at it, the more things I see in it.

On the left side of it? I tried to think of what I was seeing, but couldn't find the right word. I see that too. When I first saw it I only saw the animal down by the bottom in the middle.
It came up on my screensaver today and thought I'd post it and see what others saw. I have to say guys, ya'll have strange minds. Smile
Thanks for playing.

@Socialprogressive

Explain how you do this. I saw your setup, but I don't understand what you do to capture them. Is your camera slowed or regular speed and you're capturing it in real time? What is the bottom object?

Did you print the photos you sent and if so, what printer do you have? I have an older HP photo one that does a good job, but it's hard to find ink for it and it's expensive if I can. I have a Kodak and it prints very nice type written pages. The photo prints aren't worth jack.

@snoopydawg
I use a StopShot trigger box and water drop kit to control the triggering of the water drops and firing of the flash. The camera shutter speed is set to bulb. To capture a shot I open the shutter then trigger the water drops and flash then close the shutter. The whole sequence last 1 second. The firing of the flash is what freezes the motion. You can check out the StopShot at cognisys.com
I do print my own photos using a Canon Pixma Pro 100. You are right, ink is expensive. I save on the cost of ink by buying it in bulk and refilling the ink cartridges. I buy my ink from Precision Colors.com.

Hi all,

Great pics, love the hoarfrost, cathedrals, flowers, water drop splashes, all very beautiful stuff folks.

Sorry I never have time to hang, just hit and run. But like to post a couple pix when I can as a thanks to all for the great posts all week, every week, week in and out, week after week. Love the Evening Blues and gj's stuff, and all the great commenters.

SD, the rock is a Rorsarch (sp?) Rock. Wink

Since RL mentioned them, there is a big Snowy Owl invasion this year,
and lots of states have them 'staked out' now... another was just
found in Odessa, TX (by Discount Tire) this week. One way to snoop
them (and other good local birds) out is at http://www.aba.org
Click on bird news, then scroll down, find and select your state
and see whaddup in your neck of the woods.

And it's some of the best photography I've seen.

He lives here in Ogden and I'm trying to connect with him.

He has this photo there, but he took it as the sun was setting on Ostler's peak which let him capture the alpenglow. Ostler's is the tallest peak here. The time of day is critical for getting the best photo. I took mine 40+ Years ago before I understood that.
