Hiring Managers and Head Hunters Can Kiss My Ass.

There are people out there who say that the job of the hiring manager is to get the most qualified person for the job. But anyone who has tried to get a job in a skilled field knows that's bullshit.

In fact, I've had a guy tell me point blank that one of the reasons his firm never hired black folks was because they didn't read the Wall Street Journal where the want ads for said firm were posted. And this was decades ago.

As for today? Well, unless you have a squeaky clean criminal record and credit score and can drive to work (possess a drivers' license), the skilled labor market will always be denied to you no matter what your skills are. Not even so-called head hunters can help here. I know. I've had more than a few and to be honest, I don't even give a shit if I find anything anymore.

After all, these same head hunters are always telling me I should go back to restaurants until something better comes along. And others are saying "Hey, at least it's a pay check." I won't go back to something I absolutely hate with every fiber of my being just so I'll "go away". Hell, one head hunter dropped me because she couldn't place me. And my current one isn't doing any better.

It's funny, isn't it? As kids we were told to go and get educated so we'd never have to worry about employment. Yet here we are, after having done that, and the only opportunities that exist now are those we would have gone to as teenagers for teenage wages. Or several teenage wage internships...I'm sorry, supported employment opportunities that never lead to permanent employment.

What's the point of trying to get anywhere if the opportunities are gone before we even leave college? Hell, why should I even bother doing anything when all they see is a statistic?

At this point I'm only doing things to humor family members. Otherwise, I'm losing the ability to give a shit, not that I ever did according to some.

See you around,

Aspie

Displacing the teenagers who should be holding those jobs. Don't forget that.

There is nothing anyone currently of working age could ever have done which would result in "ever having to worry about employment".

And restaurant work peters out damn fast once one's physical ability to thrive on physical abuse goes away, as mine did starting at age 29. Once you show the first signs of arthritis, most minimum wage emplpoyments will hire those teenagers over you -- count on it!

I've been where you are -- and I have a driver's license.

Unless and until society figures out that this really is a problem, the numbers of those affected as we are will remain myriad.

And just how the F are we supposed to maintain a squeaky-clean proactive credit score on teenage wages? Or the ephemeral nature of even most skilled work these days? Avoidance of obligations -- the sole rational response to these economic conditions -- is held against one at least as badly as failure to meet obligations once incurred.

We need the nation's power -- rightly belonging to the working class alone -- back in our hands.
